- As promised back in May, a short visit to the Lynton and Barnstaple Steam Railway for their annual and highly popular Autumn Gala. The line is just 0.9 miles long, running between Woody Bay Station, and Killington Lane, with no intermediate stops. The line is relaid along the former narrow gauge branch line from Barnstaple to just outside Lynton. Originally closed in 1935, a section was relaid and opened in 2004, and along with a short extension in 2006, it gives us the line we see today. The Masterplan is to see the line extended as far as possible. The track work and maintenance is impeccable, one could mistake it for the mainline, a testament to those who spend their time on the line. Visiting for the weekend, were Welsh Hunslets ' Lilla' and ' Hugh Napier' from the Ffestiniog railway, running with the Lynton and Barnstaple residents, Southern replica No. 762 ‘Lyn’, & Kerr Stuart & Co Ltd No. 2451 ‘Axe’. Only being able to stay for Saturday morning, shots were taken at:

I hope you enjoy watching this. If you do, please like, comment, and subscribe; it really is rather flattering. This was filmed on Saturday 23rd September, in the morning. If you’re wondering why this film has come out a bit later than usual, I filmed 3 events during the weekend, including HSTs on the West Somerset Railway on the Saturday afternoon, and 45596 Bahamas with the Royal Duchy to Par on the Sunday, the former being much easier to edit in time for a broadcast at the usual time.

Another beautiful replica of a steam locomotive from my home country United States of America.
Yes butttoo dat Baldwin Lyn's 2-4-2's equalizer bars should b removed to reduce the engine weight.
As all Brits know, their track is perfect. The loco's drivers n truck wheels only need to have
solid hat bearings and maybe square bearings w coil springs if the Ry's track gangs are slacking
on their job.
Actually, the Ry doesn't need those two trucks to guide into n out of sharp curves. As we can c,
an 0-4-0 helper, Napier can negotiate those tracks w/o the trucks!!! So, take out those two trucks
off Lyn's 2-4-2 to make her 0-4-0 and replace her square bearings w simpler hat bearings after
removing the driver equalizer levers. Make the mainenance much EZr n quicker!!!
More RH shots of Lilla n Napier locos please. Fantastic shots of the British Isle's
gentle sloping hills. Subscribed n thumb's up.
Great video from the Steam Gala :)
Thank you
What a great day out! Thank you sharing. One of my favorite UK railways. 😊👍
Glad you enjoyed it
Tremendous 👍
It may be only a mile or so, but it has some good gradients to give engines plenty of work to do.
If they ever get round to extending the line, it should open up some more filming opportunities. It’s too short to get anything different, all over the same backdrop. At least it’s a good climb
How much progress has been made towards extending it? There is no iinfo on website.
Not a lot unfortunately

Not enough! 😂😂 They got ideas and planning permission but that’s about it!
