  • In Chinese dramas, you won't find witches or reincarnations, star-crossed teenage lovers, or gay couples. Lonely individuals trapped in unhappy marriages, drowning their sorrows in alcohol or seeking extreme vengeance are also off the table. Despite the extensive list of TV guidelines, let's explore some elements that are excluded from Chinese dramas. #theuntamed #cdrama #xiaozhan #zhangzhehan #kriswu #storyofyanxipalace #denglun

Excellent commentary! Banning shows and non-violent ‘offenders’ -who should be punished within the law, not exterminated - demonstrates weakness. Let people decide if they want to see an actress who treats her children like designer handbags. I do welcome the fact that these productions limit sex and violence, but the dramas are often chaste to the point of being sterile. Gorgeous young (at times married!!) couples showing no passion for 40 episodes, just stupid giggles? we are not in the 1950ies any longer, even in China. Love and passion can be shown without stripping naked. Let creativity flourish! Give talented actors BETTER scripts.

All they are doing is pushing people to embrace the art coming out of the west. If people do not have art of their own that they can relate to they will seek it out in other places.
I think the whole censorship thing has made the mistake that conservatives made in other places by trying to control the narrative.
It's sad because the world now only see's that unfortunately C has become more and more like NK.
It's Too bad, China was so close to be being seen as upwardly mobile and now people just see stagnation.
It will take decades to recover their reputation/face

Luckily we were able to see Yanxi Palace and Harem dramas based on GREAT NOVELS with some historical truths BEFORE the absurd scissors of censorship make them disappear. The History of Humanity is made up of good and bad people, that's life. I agree not to promote violence, impudent sex scenes or drugs. But don't fall into exaggeration. The series are for adults, it is incredible that in the 21st century censorship tries to close minds by presenting characters that are spotless and washed with soap as if we were all Kindergarten children. It is an insult to our ability to discern

Watching someone smoke or drink doesn't lead to abuse of either. Walk down the street and you will see body parts. Watch content from other countries and you bypass these resrictions. Censors need to treat viewers as adults. And ZZH isn't guilty of anything except being excellent and other people are jealous.

I mean with all these rules and regulations, they just need to watch nature channels in China they don’t need to create dramas or movies, because some of these regulations are beyond asinine. You don’t want or allow reincarnation, you don’t really want palace dramas (because it appears to glorify it…weird 🙄), you don’t want too much skin to be shown, you don’t want smoking and/or drinking, but you’re good with having people portray gods and goddesses, people flying, magic, and all sorts of other things that are not “real” 🤔….make it make sense China. For a country to be this heavily involved in its movie and television industry is scary. I mean why do they feel the need to control and monitor what the people in that country watch to the point to where the government deems what is appropriate and what is inappropriate. Literally it’s insane, and it’s really scary to think that people live in that kind of society.

Films are art. The quickest/best way to get young people do watch or read something is to ban it

And you think this teens you talk about don’t go see movies from other countries who in fact show all that is banned in China? If teens want to they get their way! Hiding things from teens makes them look for things that are tempting and prohibit. They have their ways!! Don’t be gullible!

So basically China is the reason for the cancel culture to grow. I have no problem with the no smoking because admitting it or not it has been proven in other countries that it does work especially among the young.
However some of the shows they allow at contradicts nearly all of what was said here.

I do encourage many of these rules but still controlling scripts when it comes to creativity is really bad , and dramas that are based on myths and science fiction are better that Gods and goddess fantasy (kind of sick of them), for country that have many tales why they are banning and restricting those scripts

@@the_specialista6319 I have Some are ok But the do tend to over censor and put in a but of old fashioned Moaist ideology that gets a bit boring. We in the West get some of the better stuff bit I dont think I could bear 24/7 Neighbour's style main TV style stuff all the time. Sometimes they lack a little sexiness.

@@wkave Same for me with UK stuff. I tend now to watch Korean and Thai stuff. Sometimes I watch Scandinavian and French films and very odd times Spanish films. With subs of course! The problem for China is their film industry was beginning to thrive and they were becoming more adventurous. They began appealing to a wider audience. but the old guys got scared. The TV is censored again to the point of stupid. They blur out wine in the glass, male nipples and ladies V neck dresses., I don't mean those that are barely there, I mean the stuff your gran would wear. And certainly no gay stuff.

Many people smoke in China and drink! Hiding it in dramas or movies doesn’t it make it go away!
Showing off the famous and rich doesn’t make them hide their poverty! Keep trying to live that fictional made of life!!
