The way you explain how and why you are doing things shows very evident that you not only know what you are doing but are also a great teacher. I can’t wait to make my walnut table top with this video.
I think that is the most beautiful countertop I have ever seen. It's beauty is matched only by your knowledge and workmanship. You Sir are a master of your craft.
Watched this just because it's Walnut. You did really nice Wes. You're my hero. Got a walnut tree in my backyard--tempted to cut it down now😆. One thing I would like to see if you don't have it already is a pair of nightstands. They are a hot Facebook marketplace item right now and finding a matching pair at a reasonable price is difficult. Thanks for everything!
Hi...thanks for the comment. I have done 2 videos on night stands you might want to take a look. ruclips.net/video/u7n-9eCGXzk/видео.htmlsi=gDttx8Hi_Ywu2EYs ruclips.net/video/hODBau_KENg/видео.htmlsi=QYfjdGHC03jnYWsU
i love walnut, i have one piece about 2 inches thick, about 5 ft long, and 12 or so inches wide, i think it would make a beautiful mantel if i could have one. however since i don't i've been debating what to do with it. well i'm building my own workshop and i want one nice thing so, maybe mix it with some other wood, or get more and use it for the countertops, why not it'll look awesome.
Its beautiful Wes...I always do 3 coats myself, I myself like the look of sap wood there but I get it, it's not for everyone, I'm doin a top for a kitchen table I built for myself and have to do it in 3 sections so I can run it through my sander as well, got me a little nervous cause it's the largest top I've done so far, I'm guna use biskits to align it all..glad I ran across your vid here, always good to hear different point of views on tops and i like yours, thank you...
I’m curious how that would have looked with just the poly finish and no stain to darken the wood. I love the pre stain color layers that walnut has. Such beautiful wood.
Wis could you make a king-size bed frame sometime. I need to make one for my daughter. Enjoy watching yor.vidios and always learn another from you. Thank you.
Woodworking With Wes You are very welcome! I recently made a beautiful and simple computer desk made from red oak. Stained with Colonial Maple. Finished with poly. I was able to apply the same gluing method to the oak boards. Thank you.
Beautiful countertop and very well narrated video. Just curious...does this countertop require any periodic maintenance such as applying oil to prevent it from drying out? If so, what do you suggest? Thanks very much.
BE U TI FUL ! I use an old wash rag (lint free) to apply the poly. No air bubbles or brush marks, Very thin coats drys very fast. Sand between every coat, Johnson's paste way after final sanding with 400 grit.
Thank you for your compliment. Given the difficulty I had in using my brush I can see that your suggestion of spraying poly is a good one. I wasn't confident enough to get the best results for my client without some practice with the sprayer...I really want to work on that. Great suggestion...I appreciate it.
Woodworking With Wes Going to be building one of these, thanks so much for the video. Only thing I’ll be doing differently is using a waterborne 2k poly like Renner. Beautiful piece though!
Great video guys. Very instructive. But please, that music has to go. We're all just here to learn from you pros and the music kinda gets in the way. Again, appreciate all the tips!

I do too

Great looking counter top walnut looks great 👍
Thank you very much! I really appreciate your visits and comments...have an awesome day.

Natural walnut is very beautiful. The dark stain that I used was my customer's choice. Thanks for watching. Wes
OMG… I NEED ONE!
awesome!!!!

Wonderful looking counter!
Thank you...I appreciate your support !
Beautiful work
Thank you Dylan...I appreciate the compliment :))
Watching this in 2022. You’d have to sell a kidney to afford all that walnut.
Probably so !! Thanks for watching, Wes
Gorgeous Wes!

nice job

Beautiful countertop and very well narrated video. Just curious...does this countertop require any periodic maintenance such as applying oil to prevent it from drying out? If so, what do you suggest? Thanks very much.
No maintenance needed....it has a polyurethane top coat. Thanks for watching, Wes
Sweet, sure would like to see a closer look at the finished top. The camera is too far away.
Excellent work.
Thank you very much...I appreciate that!
Wes, come over to the sapwood side! Haha. Great videos!
Enjoyed this video beautiful finish . Can I get loa of products used for stain and finish ?
Looks great! Have you ever used mineral oil or similar product to finish a countertop?
We often use mineral oil as a finish for cutting boards but I have never heard of it used for an entire countertop. Thanks for watching. Wes
Yes it’s actually very common to use on butcher block countertops. Treat it like a large cutting board.
The video content is great, but that bloody music drives me nuts.
Please stop it
Wes could you walk us thru basic cabinet dimension and the use of Blum hardware?
Paul...I do have a video you might find useful explaining cabinet layout and shop drawings.

Thanks
Niceeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. Love ittt
Thank you! Wes
Beautiful job!! What kind of brush did u use?
what grit do you use between sanding with the poly..which kind of poly do you use? beautiful work! Thanks!
The poly that I used was by Minwax. I sanded between coats with a "fine" grit sanding sponge. Thanks Wes
Great video. Any reason you don't spray your polyurethane?
The blue and the brown just don't go together. Anyway, the countertop looks very nice.
I have never had a stain work out . Ever.
can i use danish oil instead of polyurethane for top coat?
Carlo...I am not sure whether a danish oil finish would stand up to every day use like the poly will. Thanks for watching Wes

Hi Lane...thanks! Sounds like a great finish technique. Appreciate your comment. Wes
Building a walnut island next week wes. Would love to pick your brain.
Thats great...love to help. Send me an email at woodworkingwithwes@gmail.com
Wes, any chance you could tell us what this beautiful countertop price was to the customer?
Did I miss it or maybe you didn’t seal the back of the top? Why didn’t you opt to spray instead of brush?
You have a spray booth why wouldn't you spray the poly
Hi Luke...I certainly could have I just decided to do a paint brush application for demonstration. Thanks for your comment and visiting the channel.
Why dont you use biscuits or groove them any particular reasons
Hi...I don't it necessary to use biscuits. Thanks for watching, Wes
Great job as always, really like your video editing style. Any reason why you didn't spray the finish in this scenario?

Water or oil based polyurethane?
Hi...I use oil base but either would work. Thanks for watching, Wes
Why you did not spray it on
Hey, Wes. Ur presentations R really informative, but Ur audio needs help. Keep up the Gr8 work,Wes !
How much did you charge for that exact top?
The price of this was all factored into the cost of the entire kitchen. Given todays wood prices, I am sure it would be more. Thanks for watching. Wes
Too bad I have walnut taste but a pine budget.
😀
Sir, do you know the song that's at the 5:00 minute mark?

Staining walnut should be a federal crime.
Ummm nothing like breathing walnut dust.
Yea I am lucky I don't have sawdust allergies :))
