Although I don't agree with somethings that Oprah Winfrey says and does, I do believe that she deserves her flowers and respect to a large extent because she is an amazing iconic trailblazer in broadcast and print media, as well as, the film industry. She is also an amazing philanthropist. She was the first to do a lot of things of which thereby opened many doors for other women, but, particularly African American women. Moreover, she's a hardworking, intelligent, multi-faceted business woman alongside being an exceptionally talented actor and producer. She's a team player that has earned her stripes. Her performance across all media spectrims, for the most part, is outstanding and even magnificent. Yet, with all that being said, it is very disturbing that she has associated herself with some very untrustworthy and even wicked people, as opposed to, people that stand with and advocate for truth and that are trustworthy. Therefore, it appears she's not a good judge of character although she may appear to be smart in managing other areas of her life... But, she's entitled to associate with whomever she chooses, however, she shouldn't be shocked or take pause by those that have raised their concerns regarding her personality, morals and core values because the old adage does ring true, birds of a feather flock together. So, she has to live with that part...

You make some legitimate points. She is an excellent producer, her acting is well above average, and she crashed through a lot of ceilings to get where she is today. If we just judge a person for material success she is beyond reproach.
It's my opinion, however, that she's acted like she's better than most (insecurity or just arrogance i don't know). She's great at selling her brand but look at how she uses people:
• She didn't "give" her audience those cars, not a penny came out of her pocket to pay for the cars or any of her so-called audience "gifts".
• Her treatment of other Black women is patronizing at best; her behavior towards Taraji Henson finally showed the world who she is and how she uses money and power to "handle" bad press.
• Finally, those poor South African girls remain perfect examples of what happens to her magnanimous gestures -- get all the good PR you can then dump 'em.
Seems to me if you make a public spectacle of being a certain way, you need to genuinely be that way. And when people discover differently, you don't get to cry, "I deserve my private life to be kept quiet."
