Eckhart Tolle is widely recognized as one of the most original and inspiring spiritual teachers of our time. He travels and teaches throughout the world.
Eckhart is not aligned with any particular religion or tradition, but excludes none. His profound yet simple and practical teachings have helped thousands of people find inner peace, healing and greater fulfillment in their lives. At the core of his teachings lies the transformation of individual and collective human consciousness - a global spiritual awakening.
Eckhart Tolle is the author of The Power of Now, a #1 New York Times Bestseller, which has been translated into 32 languages and become one of the most influential spiritual books of our time.
In his most recent book, A New Earth, he shows how transcending our ego-based state of consciousness is not only essential to personal happiness, but also the key to ending conflict and suffering throughout the world.

“Anxiety is the dizziness of freedom”- Soren Kierkegaard.
You feel anxious because you have choice, you have the choice of freedom, and that makes you afraid, because you don’t trust yourself enough. Let your anxiety guide you, let it be a reminder to choose reality, a reminder to stay present. You don’t own all the problems in the world, so take a deep breath and stay calm, cool, and collected. Most importantly, trust yourself, even if that means sometimes going against your senses.

I surrendered and accepted my fear, and it I actually felt like some blockage in my back began to break apart. I felt like blood started to flow in those areas. I realized how much I avoided the fear within me, but starting to accept it felt like things are beginning to clear up.

What he says is so true, I live it and experience it. I had horrible anxiety and panic attacks and by accepting the emotion and being present it was transformed. His teachings have helped me access that power within us all. I am so thankful and blessed to have come across his teachings.

I think my greatest fear is losing out and being abandoned, not experiencing the joys that I see others around me experiencing on a daily basis - I fear the pain of feeling alone and unwanted as well as being let down, never getting what I visualise for myself, being trapped in the dark void with no hope of getting out... I guess I must accept this unacceptable set of thoughts. To me it would feel unacceptable to be abandoned like I fear, to never get to where I want to be. Every time I try to replace/fight these thoughts with a positive thought like "I will get to where I want to be", it comforts me for a moment and then the ego comes back with the same fearful/bitter/angry thoughts I experience, and it's a constant twoing and froing. So maybe accepting the ego thoughts while being aware that they are not real, but just thoughts, and do not affect my life unless I act upon them... will finally bring me peace of mind and allow the fruitful things to enter into my life with no more resistance.

Just when I’ve thought I’ve read his two books enough or listened to them on audio in the car, or have been subscribed to his site and heard about all I can hear and learn, I always have to come back. That’s how you know when you’ve found truth. Stay with him. He is truthful, humble, humorous, and always as honest as he can be. Moreover, money is a necessary evil at times to bring teachings to form, but he could care less about money. And it shows. He’ never advertises or “mixes” in a promo with any teaching....although he is marketed by soundstrue.com, he will never stoop to baiting his audience on any personal level.

when you are only aware of pain you can not be happy. or joyful. simple as that.
but i asure you, there is a huge huge part of life that is pleasent and feels good. right now check if the feeling of warm body feels good. check if the feel of your clothes feels good. check if the loundness of sounds feels good...
ask yourself that sincerely and pay attention to which feels nice. learn how to enjoy that. learn to pay attention to what is out there right now that feels nice.
pain itself is not pleasent but when it stands next to many simple things that feel nice it can be easier to live with it

Something that may help is others is realising being completely conscious has no place for fear. So if you are feeling fear and there is nothing physically threatening you, they you can remind yourself that it is your conditioned ego. If you stay with it, when you can (you can fail but try and try again and don't beat yourself up because that's the ego coming through the back door, which turns into a vicious cycle, you can forgive yourself once you come out of it and try to understand how your ego took back control from you by going over eckharts stuff) it will dissipate and you will feel the stillness intensely, perhaps just briefly at first, but will last longer as the momentum of the conditioned mind loses its source of food (identity with form).

Absolutely fucking brilliant. I've been scouring spiritual texts and consulting with friends on this topic and have been convincing myself that this is the truth for a while now, but finally getting confirmation from a master such as Eckhart truly makes me optimistic for my future. I've been continually applying awareness onto my own anxiety non-stop for around 6 or 7 months now, and the transformation is already taking effect slowly but surely. This along with contemplation and mindfulness of thought has completely transformed my life already, but it's still here with me now which means I have growth left. It's like an infinite source of free growth. I am indeed grateful, I've always wondered why I among all people have grown so quickly in so little time, but I guess now I know the real answer. It's just because for some reason my soul and mind-body is 100% deadset on making sure I find god, peace, love, and harmony in this life time for whatever reason. God bless.

Yes. I would be one of those to say that I have had more than my fair share of suffering, thank you very much Mr/Mrs. Universe :) You name it, that suffering has visited my being. Yes, the suffering brings about transformation of a sort, also an enlightenment of a form even. When that suffering is so great as to become almost unbearable, what do you do? you muddle through, you breath from one moment to the next, one day to the next, you fake it 'til you make it, you smile, you laugh in its face even, and when you get through on scuffed bended bloodied hands and knees, you simply.... "Chop Wood and Boil Water". In other words you stay in the moment with the learning, with the transformation, with the pain, with the giving away of the lessons that you are learning (in ALL of that pain) to others, then you share that learning/that honey that you have made with that sffering/that love/that wisdom, knowledge, that care n concern, you offer it with love to all of humanity that you come in contact with :). That is if you are extremely fortunate to be able to. That is all that we can do. We try to survive it all with as much grace, dignity intact, peace, joy as we possibly can muster -at the time- and in each and every moment. Then falling down over and over and over again. Yet with each and every blessed, sacred day we pull ourselves up a little more and a little more, until we know and see the beauty, the light. That is where the beauty of it all abides, exists for us and that is our reward . That is what we all have to look forward to in our suffering, you will get through , you will survive and you will know peace again. That is all that we can do - To simply live with, in and through the suffering to get to the other side, with harmony and peace (if we have endured). Over and over again, until we are peace (or pretty close to it) and you know that you have made it almost, home. Peace :)

Eckhart Tolle is my savior. Reading and listening to his teachings have helped me through the roughest patches. He literally saved me. Accepting and surrendering to unpleasant emotions are far from easy. However, I have learned that if I can rise above and raise awareness within myself and become the detached observer of these fearful thoughts, I will gradually and eventually come to a point of "accepting the seemingly unacceptable". Easier said than done, but it's definitely worth every effort. Thank you, Eckhart.

  • @MCJOHNSON95

Its makes sense. Surrender to the pain and go through it like anxiety for example. You want to do something or talk to to someone but you are too anxious. Not accepting the fear and avoiding will increase anxiety. Walking through the fear will be difficult but it will help your anxiety long term.

He says the right thing: it's important to let yourself feel your unpleasant emotions if your want to be free of them. However, there are methods that speed up freeing yourself GREATLY compared to what Eckhart estimated. Here are some of such methods: EFT, Sedona Method, NLP's Swish technique.

As brilliant as ever. I would just like to say though as someone who suffered from social anxiety and panic attacks for many years when i was younger that a food intolerance to tannin, which made it virtually impossible to get out of my head and into my body, was my biggest obstacle and that classical meditation made me feel worse sometimes. There are other reasons for constant anxiety. The power of now is my favourite book. If i had read it and tried being in the now before i discovered i had a food intolerance it would have left me disappointed.

I am suffering of a chronical desease since 7 years. Half a year ago I had a phase of suffering every single minute of a day, even at night - for around 8 weeks. After some weeks there was a kind of state of accepting the unacceptable, but it was not final. I would like to have more information of how to accept the unacceptable, what does it mean to surrender to the unacceptable? What kind of feeling would that be? Can someone describe it? I feel I was close to it, but it's difficult to describe, I was in some kind of trance, but not all the time. The thought of embracing my suffering seams to help, but still there are very heave moments which I barely can stand. Where in Tolle's works can I find some kind of help for this problem?

I tried that many years ago, before I had heard about Eckhart Tolle. The "face the fear" sessions took place one or two times. What triggered me to do it was I had become sick and tired about the elephant in the room. I can confirm that the fear got scared and ran away forever. The thing is, it takes some courage to sit down and take it. It hurts really bad. Your elephant in the room is provided and designed for you personally, no need for a spike bed. My fear was connected to an event. So it was easy to "find" it and provoke it. Life long fear with no obvious reason, that I don't know how to kill since it's hard to find the elephant, and the fear may not be that intense.

I am a fan of Eckhart's and I believe his teachings can help people however I was surprised he "knocked" Transcendental Meditation, (TM)that too has helped many people not only release stress, give up addictions, release hidden talents etc, but most importantly discover their real nature naturally without any kind of philosophy .
(It should be remembered that Eckhart had an sudden Awakening to his real nature which is very rare which he describes in a YT video so he had" Grace" to get himself out of serious mental trouble)
I have practised TM nearly 40 years, its been a Godsend in very stressful situations apart from normal everyday living
I have tried various meditations and TM is the easiest to do and in my opinion the most powerful because it acts directly on the nervous system releasing unwanted stress, you can actually feel it throughout the body working like an energy,at least I can.
One feels refreshed and relaxed like after a good nights sleep. all in around 20 mins ! It Has to be taught as its very subtle and cannot be learned from a book.
Obviously Eckhart has never practiced it and shouldn't put people off ..
Its very easy to do,kids do it, in fact it is taught in some schools and the Military, prisons etc, it is not religious or a philosophy but a simple mental technique
It is very enjoyable and practitioners look forward to it for 20 mins twice a day.
TM as it is known can be combined with your Beliefs or Eckhart's teaching if you wish, it is not a teaching or religious.
I have no connection with the TM movement, never have,I simply do TM and let it do its work naturally, one learns to live in the present, which is the basis of Eckhart's teachings
Ones real nature is non other than Peace of a troubled mind... or. Pure Awareness, which Eckhart discovered after his Awakening but had no idea literally what had happened until his investigations some years later...TM will lead one to the same state with continued practice every day, that is the only discipline,to do it regularly, its like riding a bike at first its strange, then suddenly you get your balance, and off you go to Pure AWARENESS.

I have a lot of fear when I have to live up to the expectations of people, as an artist. I am working on something big now, and was completely stressed out about not being able to do it well enough.
As soon as he started talking about complete surrender and acceptance, the tension around my fear lessened so much that I smiled and felt like myself again. Funny how the non-acceptance of the fear emotion, is more the issue then the fear emotion itself. Because when you accept it, its ok.
Lots of gratitude! As an artist, these teachings help me out so very much, so very often.

To accept the unacceptable just won't cut it. The more you try to accept your anxiety, just proves more that you haven't accepted it. It's one of those paradoxes of nature. I'm sorry to hear this is the best advice he has on the matter.

EMDR and Somatic therapy are doing this too. There are trauma therapists suggesting some kind of intelligence from presence.

This is the hardest part of mental illness, knowing what the heck to do with it
If you sit with an intrusive thought it will make your waking days one endless nightmare
If you try to sit down and work through your anxieties by ruminating, you'll become a boulder sooner than that spiral will uncurl
But if you push away a trauma memory, it will fester in the back of your brain and silently influence all your decisions
if you ignore the quiet, painful knocking of your conscience, it will undermine the ground you walk on
If you avoid climbing that Wall of Awful, the bricks will only be stacked higher next time
If you push aside the silent call of your body, in pain from the years of carrying all this, it will pick a day and make you rest
I grieve all the time I've lost trying and failing to figure out which is which and what to do

I have created the terrors of ocular migraines after a stroke many years ago. last week I had 3 ocular migraines and freaked out so badly I am scared to leave my bed - let alone the house. I am scared I will never leave the house again. I am trying to meditate and calm myself down but this fear has changed my life towards nothingness. I am definitely depressed also. I used to walk the dogs for hours - now they just sit on the bed with me.
