    This creation is derived from the Melon Ball cocktail which comprises of Midori melon liqueur, vodka and freshly squeezed orange juice then garnished with melon balls (watermelon, cantaloupe and/or honeydew). I forgot to mention this recipe is also meant to be garnished with melon balls but A) I despise most melons except watermelon and B) I was going to buy a whole watermelon for 2 tiny balls >_

    My favourite cocktail in is highball glass, ice, 1 shot Midori, 1 shots Disaronno, and then fill with cranberry juice
    It's a very sweet drink, so not for everyone, but I love it because it tastes somewhat like a cherry bakewell cupcake.
    I've seen it called a Cherry Stone but i've only ever seen it available in one bar

    I got my package yesterday including my jigger. Cheers Steve!
    Here's my Midori recipe; the Japanese Lilly
    1.5 Oz: London dry gin
    1 Oz: Midori
    1 Oz: Lemon juice
    2 dashes: Orange butters.
    Garnish: A single cherry.
    It's dry, but not bracingly so, with a sour melon flavour and a hint of orange on the finish. My Mum's favourite cocktail is the Japanese Slipper which I thought was Midori, gin, lemon. When I discovered it wasn't I decided to turn it into something a little better so I lengthened the gin and added the orange back in with the bitters. My Mum's first name is Leslee so her cousins would call her Lilly hence the name.

    I make a drink super similar to this but it doesnt have a name. (I call it the Georgia Green since the guy who told me the recipe is from Georgia and its green) The recipe is 1 shot of melon liquor, 1.5 shots of white rum, .5 oz of lemon or lime juice, and 1 oz of simple syrup. It make the perfect slushie with 2 red solo cups of ice (sorry not exact measuring) but this is a super refreshing drink in the hot sun!
    Also love your videos Steve! Keep the drinks coming! :)

    My favorite melon liqueur recipe is my own creation called the MPL.
    -2 oz Melon Liqueur
    -1 oz Pineapple Juice
    -3/4 oz Lemon Juice
    -3 to 4 drops Saffron-Mango Bitters
    Really well balanced, low ABV, and a great way to use up Midori quicker. The mango bitters could be subbed for any bitters that fits the profile.

    Browsin through your drinks, and I actually have all the stuff for this one! And man is it ever sweet. And I have a sweet tooth, too. I think maybe using lime juice and upping the amount might cut some of that out? Idk, I'll try it out some other time.

    Hey Steve, I've got a friend who recently went on a 2 week trip to Australia, and he was telling me the average price of a cocktail over there was $18-$20! Is thag just an exaggeration, or is liquour over there just very expensive? I can't imagine paying that much for a drink!

    • @StevetheBartender_
      @StevetheBartender_  4 года назад

      Yeah, that's pretty much spot on! Keep in mind that your dollar is worth about 1.4x as much... but we pay $86 per litre (of 100% spirit) of tax whilst most places in the USA are around $16 (I think)... so for each 700ml bottle there is $25 of taxes.

  • @Finwolven

    'Ball drop' sounds like slang for... Well, puberty. So maybe this is sort of a 'starters cocktail' for someone graduating from sodas and very sweet 'booze with chaser' drinks?
    Either way, very interesting. Apparently Midori is available at our local government-issue boozing store, so maybe I'll go grab a bottle some time and try this one. I also have some very green but very mild mint liqueur that my missus got from somewhere, would you have any ideas for a minty drink?

    This is just completely out of interest. You and most other bartenders I watch instruct to shake a cocktail for "about 12 seconds" but no one ever gets close to 12 seconds. But I have noticed that 12 shakes of the cocktail shaker normal constitutes as enough dilution and chilling.
    Does it make much of a difference if you shake it for exactly 12 seconds as opposed to shake it for 12 shakes?
    Love Midori by the way so I'm happy you're making some content about it!

    • @StevetheBartender_
      @StevetheBartender_  5 лет назад +1

      12 seconds is the ideal time.. the drink reaches a point where it won’t get any colder. I usually shorten my shake or stirring purely for timing - it’s a bit dull watching the same movement (especially stirring).. this article goes into great depth about dilution and I think anyone mixing drinks should read: www.cookingissues.com/index.html%3Fp=4585.html
