    Tips on how to become a better artist/animator etc:
    1) Start small
    2) Relax and don't overthink it
    3) Take your time
    4) Keep adding more details over time
    5) Learn from your mistakes
    6) Keep drawing new versions until you get your wanted result.
    7) Stack up/layer your previous versions of your drawn character and watch it transform through animation. This will help you realize where you made mistakes.
    8) Start over again new design that suits the character better.
    Now some drawing tips:
    (Always start with pencil)
    1) Start by drawing a stick figure
    2) Draw circles on the body of the stick figure- this will give your character muscles later.
    3) Connect the circles with gaps around stick figures body.
    4) Erase unwanted/unnecessary scribbles around the body of the figure.
    5) Add more details to your character.
    6) After you get your results right, use pen or marker to bold your character.
    7) Practice.

    This is not why drawing is so hard. The problem is that we imagine things in 3d and while we have brain circuitry to convert 2d into 3d we can't do the opposite.
    So when you draw a picture you try to draw it on 3d space but you hit flat paper instead.
    Even experienced artists have significant problems in rendering 2d pictures and they need to use gradual approximation as they first draw crude design and then tweak it to perfection

    • @_____._..--_

      You mean sketching? Drawing is hard because it takes a lot of effort, the beginning is rough and learning curve is steep af.

    • @deltaxcd
      @deltaxcd 5 лет назад

      @@_____._..--_
      sketching and drawing is the pretty same thing because all drawing starts with sketching which you gradually improve to look better and better until you are happy with the result.
      Learning just makes that process quicker but it is not really required. as if you don't kind to spend days on one picture you probably can do it even if you never held a pencil in your hand.

      The same three songs? That's an exaggerated way to put it. How about only mastering one instrument. That's more accurate and that's sufficient for most. Studying anatomy would help improve your anime art but would be a grave waste of time for some art styles. Don't ever ignore the amount of time it will take to study the whole anatomy of just a human.

      The best thing to do is in the first month, exactly copy references. Don’t trace, but remember the shapes. Push yourself to remember, but it will take a while. On the third month, try to develop your own way of drawing the faces, hair ect. On the fourth month, learn anatomy, find a favourite artists of yours, and study how they draw it, it will take a couple days each body part, and then figure out the rest I guess lol. I’m in 4 months of drawing and I’m not sure what to do next, but at the moment I’m just having fun.

    Drawing sucks for me
    I always watch these art tutorials and get mad when i realize im not a prodigy. I dont understand why, but when my art doesnt look as good as someone elses, or i see they are drawing something really good, i get upset. My friend at school drew this hyper realistic eyeball. It was so crazy and from my experience, she hadnt drawn much of anything prior. So seeing people like that just discourages me

    • @meboi7874
      @meboi7874 5 лет назад

      I kinda relate to this I have a friend that I thought was better at me in every way possible and it frustrates me because when I tell him something or show an art he says the same thing just different and he makes it sound like he's more superior to me for example when I was 6 grade I learned to draw more realistic human bodies I showed one art of it he said "Cool I could do that but it probably would be more realistic." After a long time I understood that all those were lies cuz I saw him playing the game we both played and I showed him that I beat the game and he said "I beat the game a long time ago." but I saw him playing it still not done the game I started getting suspicious and eventually found out more of his lies now I dont talk to him much about basically anything.

    This makes a lot of sense. Like when you're trying to draw something with a lot of shadows, you see those values in real life but your brain only focuses on the main pieces. To draw hyper-realism, you have to retrain your eyes and brain to pay attention to things you normally wouldn't

    When I studied drawing the emphasis was on observation. Every lesson was in some way about rejecting your mental image of a subject. The most useful exercise we used to help break habits was blind drawing: you did not look at the paper at all and learned to link your pencil and eye motion. Then you threw away the crap drawing you ended up with. With time you learned to draw what you saw, not what you thought was there or should be there. Of course this is the opposite of drawing cartoons where you learn to perfect your mental images of subjects rather than purge them. Read "Drawing on the Left Side of the Brain" to see how anybody can train their eye and mind to observe more accurately.

    This is really helpful. I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one who does this a lot but when I picture something in my mind to draw and once I grab my tablet pen and tablet or a paper and pencil the image in my head just sorta fades off not giving me the result I want. I draw in a cartoonish style, but I sometimes draw realistically (rarely though). I’m gonna grab one of my sketch books and sketch out some parts of the body which isn’t my strongest when it comes to drawing like the legs and arms.

    I suppose I can share some tips since im at uni now.Here's what you need to do to get better at drawing:
    1. You need to be able to draw lines with certain boldness and confidence.Try stroking a line across an A3 paper and make it as decisive as possible.Do it quickly, no pause and do it over and over until the whole paper is filled.Do it vertically, horizontally and diagonally.
    2. Another training you can do is to do no. 1 but with varied thickness.This relies on you manipulating how you presssure the pencil.Do it from thin-thick and vice versa.
    Both of this training will give you more defined lines in drawing, instead of having fuzzy and blurry lines.Also confidence is important.
    3. Tracing is fine, since you will unconsciously remember what you draw and improve your line quality and how flexible your hand moves.Dont get too caught up in this, you might end up just being an imposter.
    4. Drawing from life is foundation.Try drawing simple things you have in your room.Instead of drawing what you THINK you see, draw what you ACTUALLY see.You really need to look thoroughly at the objects. Forget all of your previous conceptions of the reality, and try to see the world as if you just got here yesterday.
    5.Learn figure (human) drawing from a realistic foundation, not by imitating cartoon example.Drawing from a deformed interpretation will only give you shallow conception of anatomy, and may result in a generic drawing.FYI I do have anime-ish drawing but I learned from sites like Proko etc.
    6. When going outside ( commuting,vacation,etc. ) try observing your surroundings.What kind of eye someone has? What kind of clothing people wear? how light sources interact with the face? This will build up your visual library.
    7. You need to be able to manipulate visual information in 3D form ( a.k.a seeing planes ).Try drawing in perspectives, and try sculpting human toe,hand,head.Try making it as accurate as possible, you can refer to yourself or others as live model.This will give you more sensibility of how forms really are.

    • @Andrewhein1
      @Andrewhein1 5 лет назад

      *Also no rulers, unless you're doing some kind of portofolio or actual work that needs accuracy.This is part of the training as well.

    one of the things that makes drawing diffucult for me is the time it takes. i usually take an hour or so to draw one very simple character, but my friend can make a full comic on a sheet of paper in the same amount of time. the time it takes really makes me lose motivation to keep working on it

      If u think about it, that friend of yours was probably in the same situation as you before but he kept practicing to reach the level of theirs. We all have different paces and instead of getting discouraged, just keep at it. A good practice is to compare yourself to your past self and not others. Keep drawing! You can do it~

    something i've learned over years of drawing is that the point of drawing is not to remember the exact way something is but to interpret it as something that other people might immediately see and notice the a more realistic look such as shadows, folds, proportion, and even basic anatomy. ur basically just creating an illusion

    Because in order to draw lifelike...you have to improve on your hand to eye coordination, and like everything it takes practice. You also have to learn to crawl before you learn to walk...and then learn to walk before you learn to run.
    Also if you think drawing is hard...painting takes it up to 11.

    • @alicesacco9329
      @alicesacco9329 5 лет назад +2

      Is not hand -eye coordination, is how you're able to imagine things. If you can't see things in your head properly, you can't draw them properly.

    Everyones goals are differnet which is why it can be difficult to create a listicle. But from people ive talked to whove wanted to learn how to do this, i tell them itd hard and youre gonna suck for a while. Like a long while and progress isnt linear. You cant expedite the process unless your goals are checkboxes for the fundamentals because learning how to be creative is difficult.
    And the adivce i give varies all the time but some key points are finding a way to love the process becuaze again it sucks but every chicken scratch drawing i do i enjoy learning from becuasw i recognize what not to do. And also study from life first and foremost. I get you like anime and cartoons and all that fun stuff but you cant break the rules without first understanding why theyre there because behind all the stylization is intent and an unferstnading of how to effectively convey the emotion you want.
    This goes for color and tools as well.
    Yhetes just a lot but dont get bogged in the weeds. The focus should always be do what brings you joy. If getting better and sucking brings you joy do it. If a doodle makes you happy do it. But if youre sitting thwre afraid to touch the paper, ruin the drawing and try to fix it and make it into something. At least youre excersixing your creativtity and soemtjing might come from that.
    An important lesson i struggle with is be ok with just stopping and calling it finished when you know its not finished, or it was finished weeks ago. Not everything is meant to be complete and perfect, thats not how your brain works.
