I remember when our town received this. We stared at it in awe like someone introducing hillbillies to light bulbs. This town would be Minneapolis. We also reacted very strongly to our first Chipotle which was also around that time.
In the U.K. we essentially have travelators, just like the ones you see at airports, but on a slope. The shopping carts have automatic brakes on them which lock as soon as you step into them. (The automatic brakes also double up as a way to prevent people from stealing carts since the brakes activate automatically when you walk far enough away from the store)
Here in Philippines our escalator is a ramp so that you can bring you cart with you. the cart has a rubber near the tire so that I will not slip going down
I've been to a two story Target and it's just occurred to me that they don't have a cart elevator. I never even wondered about people who want to shop on the second floor. This is wild
Here were I live, the carts have special wheels, wich have 2 groves in their profile. The escalators don't have steps, but are flat instead, and have similar groves as a top profile. The cart wheels grip onto the escalator, and so the carts can "use" the same escalator as people, without slipping or anything
In most of the USA, big box stores like Target are all just one big room on one floor. That's because in suburban areas in America, there's lots of room to spread out that way. Similar stores in urban areas, however, often can't take up as much ground space and therefore occupy two or three floors. So no, not everyone in the US has ever encountered a shopping cart escalator because most stores don't need them. Here in Honolulu I can think of a Target with one, a Safeway supermarket with one, and I believe the biggest Walmart has one as well.
People outside the USA are commenting that they have flat escalators (Travelators) which can accommodate both people and wheeled vehicles. These are very convenient, but because the slope of such a device has to be much more gradual than an escalator, they require a good deal more space laterally - and that can't always be worked out.
Ooh we here have a escalator for people and carts. The wheels have brakes few inches under it and when you place it on the escalator it doesn't move. But the one in the video is better because people with no carts could just walk faster down than waiting behind a cart. Thanks for showing this!
I am a lawyer and I have a case now against Target where a shopper put the cart in the "people side" of the escalator to go down and it came tumbling and crashing into my poor client who was on the escalator and had no place to go to avoid it!
I thought this was a skit with some joke at the end when I clicked on it. I'm 19 and I grew up with these cart escalators. They've been around since around long as I can remember.
In my Australian shopping centre instead of stair escalators they have flat ones (I believe they are called travelators) they have grooves in them which the wheels of the trolly lock into and then you just push it off when you get to the top.
When we had a target down here in edmonton we had that. My brother almost fell off the escalator the first time he stayed in the cart. I guess you could say that, that *escalated* quickly. I'll show myself out now.
Not sure if they have them in the US but in Australia we have these ramp style escalators (inclined travelators) with grooves built into them so specifically designed shopping cart wheels will click into them to stop the cart from sliding
so in the netherlands we just have escalators that are flat instead of with steps and the cart locks on with magnets so not only is it cheaper to construct, you can also drive it on there a lot faster and easier. of course this is also a way to do it.
In Australia, we don't need escalators for carts because we have travelators for humans and carts! All you have to do is walk on the travelator with your cart, and the wheels will lock into these tiny gaps on the floor and once you reach the top or bottom, it unlocks because at the ends are tiny slopes that go into each gap which pulls out the wheels...
lol here in singapore we use travelators for trolleys and the trolleys have special wheels that will stay put on the travelator such that even if u let go of the trolley, it won’t slide down instead it’ll stay put
We have one of those in an Emeryville target too thought it was just normal but no I was hella wrong seeing that guy mesmerized by that it’s changed me
There's a French mart which has a better version of this where is a sloped escalator with no steps. The cart wheels are actually 2 thin wheels either side of a fixed rubber ring. There are grooves in the escalator which the wheels slot into allowing the rubber ring to grip the escalator.
This is great idea especially where there is an upstairs shopping area of departments!!!!!! I wish other big named dept stores should have been using this idea it would have been a lot easier and helpful for shoppers,I like it!!!!!!!🙃😷👌👌👍👍👍👍🖒🖒
This looks like my local Target, in the Avondale neighborhood of Chicago. But I’m guessing that most 2 story Targets were built with the same layouts, so it could be anywhere honestly.
Is this in the Target in Metairie, LA? If so, I believe it used to be a JC Penny's when the mall was in its hay-day. The buggy escalator was put in when Target moved into the location.
They don't use shopping carts much in Japan, and the main reason is because most stores to save space are spread over multiple floors. That and since most people don't drive so you still have to carry, maybe something like this could help spur spending in the stagnant Japanese economy.
what is it again?
It is an escalator for carts
Scott Jones Lmaoo 😂😂
Scott Jones its an escartlator.
Alatina Thucklemuggin It's an essscalator for carts

There is a sign on the escalator with "No passengers"
Roller coaster!!
In England we just have smooth escalators for shopping carts
You just stand behind it
BluelineAirsoft ESC like those in the airport but tilted upwards right? I recall seeing the same thing when I was in mainland China.
BluelineAirsoft ESC only place I've seen that is asda
Tesco has them too. They have strong magnets on the tracks and trolley wheels
BluelineAirsoft ESC in Canada too
Very FRESH And Unsuspicious MEMES theyre called travelators
I remember when our town received this. We stared at it in awe like someone introducing hillbillies to light bulbs. This town would be Minneapolis. We also reacted very strongly to our first Chipotle which was also around that time.
Pinnacle of mankind
Ryan M., nah that title belongs to the paternoster lift
Will Austerman what is paternoster... lift?
Tom19142 you are already on the internet, what do you think you should do now?
Tom19142 ruclips.net/video/KoCQ6tq5wJE/видео.html
Is this the target in Elmhurst NY
Since when did target have 2 floors?
Nightmare Fredbear why don't we have them in England
Danny plays, I'm American.
Some do.
In the mall
Nightmare Fredbear all targets I go to have them
I used one and I broke it
Matthew M you had one job
Aaron Lane idk I just pushed the cart in a bit to hard and then it just stopped . Everyone had to reach over and get there shopping rip
Matthew M of course you did, little attention seeker
Train.Spotter.UK Yup it definitely stopped working. If you don't have anything nice to say, take the train back to rude people land. Choo choo!
I aspire to be as petty as you lmfao gg

The brakes are universal mate not just in the UK lol
Here in Philippines our escalator is a ramp so that you can bring you cart with you. the cart has a rubber near the tire so that I will not slip going down
Same in germany and austria
John Lloyd Naidas same in malaysia
Same in Indonesia
oo tama.
Same in Brunei
In the UK in Tesco the escalator is flat and magnetic and the cart sticks go it and you walk with it
ZomeDash // Levi I don't think it is magnetic. It have groves and hooks. We have that type of escalator here in Sweden in IKEA, and other places.
That is a walkator
Magnus Engström No these ones are magnetic, no matter how you put the cart it sticks
Magnus Engström it’s a travellator like at the aiprot
Airport
Best thing since sliced bread.
New Vorld Sounds isks
Why is this satisfying?
It's satisfying for most people, including yourself and me.
Cause you've never see this
In Europe, you just have smooth escalators so if you let go of the cart, it turns into that boulder scene from Indiana jones
I would have been that one kid who sat in the cart while on the cart escalator.
1:00
I want to ride in the cart as its going up for some reason lol
Justin Jones my friends and I almost broke it when we tried all together
Justin Jones who wouldn't
Justin if you ride this cart you will fall and you willl get broken leg
I've been to a two story Target and it's just occurred to me that they don't have a cart elevator. I never even wondered about people who want to shop on the second floor. This is wild
They probably have to use the elevator. Ever elevator in a 2 story Target I’ve seen is slow, but absolutely giant.

Great idea! It could also be an system for airports with the lagguage carts which are often not allowed on the escalator.
Yes, Kuala Lumpur airport has smtg similar.
I’ve seen these since I was a kid so you’re telling me if I would’ve recorded it I would’ve gotten 300k+ views??? Unbelievable
Hector T. Right? I've seen these too I guess some people don't live around a two floor target?
I've been going to this exact mall for YEARS. Damn It!. Such a good opportunity for views was right There! ;~;
There's a video showing about a computer mouse get blasted with pressurized air can and it gains more than a million of views, just sayin.
Labs not everyone can blast a computer mouse with pressurized air
is this in portland?
How has this guy never seen a cart escalator before
Timothy Corben I've never Seen one too...
Lol when I visited LA from northern Nevada I was mind blown when I saw these lol
I've never seen one, I just found out they existed after watching this video.
Timothy Corben a lot of them don’t have them
I've never seen one
I'm more amazed at the fact that there is a two story Target.....
That’s an ingenious solution to a problem that never should’ve existed in the first place.
We just have flat escalators so we can come up a moving escalator with our trolley ps in uk
Jagust_Plays same here in Canada
I saw those in San Fancisco Daily City very amazing!

These were at Ikea for a long time

Imagine being a small kid going up in the cart
Sailor Moon Drops I was a kid and got to go up on that lol
Fs
At tesco crewe, there is an esculator where you can take trollies on there with you
IT Fan Yeah they're travelators
That’s taking things to a whole new level 🤣
This was literally the only reason I loved going to target haha lol
This ain't new lmao if anything I forgot all about this
THIS IS SO COOL
I thought this was a skit with some joke at the end when I clicked on it.
I'm 19 and I grew up with these cart escalators. They've been around since around long as I can remember.
I can already see people riding in these carts like it's a roller-coaster
Well
I should contact SM, Rustan, Shang-ri-la to have this in the Philippines.
Airplane Plus Train Guy They already had one.
Jann Chavez WHERE?????????
Airplane Plus Train Guy SM supermarkets... The cart walkalator
The future is now

Thank you for sharing the video of our Vermaport Unit
Vermaport Shopping Cart Conveyo
Cool invention
That’s pretty cool. In the UK we have flat-tracked escalators that trollies (carts) and people go on together.
That's also cool because you won't need to mix up carts when you're holding on to them
In the netherlands we also have flat escalators where you can lock the wheels of your cart in place
#CartLivesMatter
I remember those! They would always break down too. Lol!!
That is so cool!
Am I the only one who’s not surprised by this? I see this everywhere where I live. And yes there’s two story Targets since.
We have flat escalators with magnets in it. And the carts have magnets on the wheels so that we can go up or down with it.
Lmao this has been a thing at my local target litterallly all my life (15yrs)....damn funny what we take for granted lol.
Not sure if they have them in the US but in Australia we have these ramp style escalators (inclined travelators) with grooves built into them so specifically designed shopping cart wheels will click into them to stop the cart from sliding
Old style target carts! Haven't seen those kinds in forever
I wish every mall has one of these.
so in the netherlands we just have escalators that are flat instead of with steps and the cart locks on with magnets so not only is it cheaper to construct, you can also drive it on there a lot faster and easier. of course this is also a way to do it.
I remember going to this exact target in SD
That cart escalator kind of reminds me of the chain lift hill of a roller coaster!
In most places, we have travelators which allow both people & carts to use it.
Working people in target:sir may I ask you to leave
Him:but I fell in love with that cart
In Australia, we don't need escalators for carts because we have travelators for humans and carts! All you have to do is walk on the travelator with your cart, and the wheels will lock into these tiny gaps on the floor and once you reach the top or bottom, it unlocks because at the ends are tiny slopes that go into each gap which pulls out the wheels...
Ok
lol here in singapore we use travelators for trolleys and the trolleys have special wheels that will stay put on the travelator such that even if u let go of the trolley, it won’t slide down instead it’ll stay put
British ones have straight escalators and magnets so the wheels of the trolley grasp the escalator and you can ride with it.
We have one of those in an Emeryville target too thought it was just normal but no I was hella wrong seeing that guy mesmerized by that it’s changed me
:44 "I'm going to send the escalator back down with my cart"
And this is why target is never going to go out of business
There's a French mart which has a better version of this where is a sloped escalator with no steps. The cart wheels are actually 2 thin wheels either side of a fixed rubber ring. There are grooves in the escalator which the wheels slot into allowing the rubber ring to grip the escalator.
Modern problems require modern solutions.
In Queens Center Mall, there is one. When i was visiting America, i went to Target to see if they had some rockets for sale.
They have travellators in alot of uk stores where the wheels are magnetic and stick to the escalator as it goes up with you.
Wow! That’s so cool!
You learn something new every day....
We've had these in Germany for a while now! They're awesome!
while in europe we have stepless escalators which lock carts in place until you arive at the other end, no need for seperate escalator.
Those are so cool. I have used them before.
This is so pure
when i looked at the title i thought it said "cat escalator in target" lmao
That is so cool I live in Vegas and that’s new to me we don’t have two story Targets YET!😂
😂 The people at the beginning
It's like me when I first went to someplace where this exists and recording it to show my family and friends
This is great idea especially where there is an upstairs shopping area of departments!!!!!! I wish other big named dept stores should have been using this idea it would have been a lot easier and helpful for shoppers,I like it!!!!!!!🙃😷👌👌👍👍👍👍🖒🖒
These have been around for 20 YEARS in Targets and IKEAs across America.
I tried this and it was super fun to watch bc I never seen this😊
ALL STORES WITH ESCALATORS NEED THIS
Which kind of Target is this located at? 😁😁😁😁
Dude these have been in Target for like 10 years... Mind blown
Woah. That's cool!😁
Whoa.... Technology! I'm amazed. I didn't know this existed. I only encounter flat escalators where your cart's wheel will be magnetized to stay put
We've been had 'escalators for carts'..
If every store had this I would be saved
This looks like my local Target, in the Avondale neighborhood of Chicago. But I’m guessing that most 2 story Targets were built with the same layouts, so it could be anywhere honestly.
If you look closely at the escalator mechanics on the cart escalator, you will see how escalators work
Is this in the Target in Metairie, LA? If so, I believe it used to be a JC Penny's when the mall was in its hay-day. The buggy escalator was put in when Target moved into the location.

In the U.K. We just have slopes instead of stairs if the shop doesn't have a lift
That is so cool! Where is this at?
Its called an Escartlator * get it because it's an escalator for carts! * 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
These fascinated me when I was like 7.
