@@ayr1225 or maybe it's the fact that the song is over 20 years old? Stop being such a whiny boy baby. I love old AFI myself, but I'm not going to blame their change on anything but the makers of the music themselves. And guess what? I'd change the tone of my jams too to distance myself from fans like you.
Saw this on a KoRn counts down their favorite videos or something on MTV in like, 1998 and fell madly in love with AFI (and Davey, obviously). My favorite album for sure. That’s also the show that introduced me to Refused so... thanks KoRn, I guess.
love this song. the energy will never go away... i used to jam to this and the entire shut your mouth open your eyes album while riding my bike back when i was a teen...35 now myself....been a fan since 1996, 21 years. i grew up with these guys. thank you for uploading this classic video Blank TV.
I remember listening to this record so much. Great song. I still like AFI but Davey's voice live back then was awesome. I saw them not to long ago and his voice is shot, there is a reason he sings the way he does now.
Every time I hear this song, I’m like “wow, this is the closest Davey and AFI ever captured that Samhain vibe”, including the Son of Sam stuff. Great track.
what happen to the years, where one and another could enjoy music, with out it being judge, music was created to make you feel like one with another being in this world, and as a person, I feel we taken that for granted too.
That era never existed. Any time that there is a change in music, different bands (Beatles/Rolling Stones), (Pink Floyd/Led Zeppelin), hell different anything... it will always be "my side is better than yours"
I’ve been looking for this video for the longest time, one of my first AFI songs, saw it on MTV2 some distant 3am morning years ago. Thank you for uploading xxx
I love this song so much. It got me through a lot. I still remember being in the pit at the Hollywood Palladium when they played this song. I miss this AFI so much.
It wasn’t really a tribute band, it was a band comprised of the guys who were in Samhain at the moment plus Davey. They played original music, but definitely in a style influenced by Samhain due to Todd Youths (guitar) excitement.
After graves left they actually asked him if he want to be in the misfits and he denied them. Which was a good move cuz they didnt even pay graves for most the shit he did for the misfits.
I miss this song, shut up and open your eyes is one of my favorite albums. So much history behind this album this is what Johnny rotten meant by a true punk band they start out punk and evolve as they got older
i like the new stuff, but the old stuff is oh so much better! this song is so incredible, you can clearly hear daveys glenn danzig and misfits influence on this song! when afi were hardcore punk/horror punk/goth punk/ whatever they were from like 95-2000 they were the best!
even if you don't like their new output, you can still appreciate the fact that they're making well-crafted music at the very least. not to mention that they're still full-time professional musicians after well over two decades together as a band - and that's just with the current members, not even counting pre-Black Sails. it's honestly remarkable.
really great shot lol i was listenin tht when i was only 4 yrs old haha 'im mature' i was hangin with punks haha i wasnt remember when and where iv heard this song and then i found it YAyyy !! Wooooo Wooo Wooo Punks Will never die Big hugs From east canada !! Where the punks Still there!
@VampireKitten103 You are so right about them not caring where they play they just play. I saw them in cleveland. And it was one of the best shows I've ever been too. I'll never forget it and this was like 8 years ago. So Davey wasn't all glammed out. Just starting too. Although I can not deny he still has a great voice. no matter much how black glitter he wears.
Everyone may have different opinions on the direction AFI took. But one thing's for sure, the fact that AFI went major and changed so much makes their older material much more precious and lovable. Because if they had just remade Very Proud of Ya six times over, everything they made in the 90s would become cheap.
I wish I hadn't been 9 years old when this version of AFI existed. I would have given my left nut to see them like this. SYMAOYE is one of my favorite punk albums of all time.
I almost cried the other day. My gf and I were talking about AFI and she said she loved their first CD. So I asked what her favorite song was off that CD. She said "Silver and Cold". She lost so much respect with that statement. But I love her anyway.
AFI were awesome then, and they're awesome now. And I agree with that most recent comment. The entitlement some fans feel is ridiculous. You don't have a right to demand anything of them. You can be a fan, buy their albums, and go to shows, but you're not entitled to anything else, especially not for them to make music that you want for no other reason that you want it. Change is a part of life, and they're all almost forty now. They're not going to be making the same music that they did in their twenties, and to expect them to? Is just utterly ridiculous.
Dude, they obviously sold out. Every knows this and this is why everyone is disappointed with AFI now. Its not that ridiculous. Also, I honestly do expect people to stay the same, and I know many bands and people that have, even WAY longer than this band to. Look up keith morris. He has been in hardcore punk music since the 70s and he still is to this day, and now hes like 58 years old.
Hummng Brd No, they clearly sold the fuck out. They leave nitro records and sign up to major labels, dreamworks and then interscope records afterwards. And then they instantly started making trendy music, putting up videos on mtv, and started selling way more records then they did before. And in AFI interviews in 2000 Davey kept saying that all he wanted was for people to hear their music and get AFI noticed, even if its getting on the radio, mtv, etc. I highly doubt they instantly and completely changed their style and did all this other stuff because they were "sick of making the same music". To me it looks they were actually sick of not having the amount of popularity and money they wanted. And I can still understand that people can get sick of the music they make, but also most of the time when musicians start to make other types of music they start new bands and not totally change the band that they were already in.
Jedhaase But they didn't just instantly change between albums all of a sudden. The first two albums were very similar/the same, but SYMAOYE was different, and Black Sails was quite different. They've said multiple times that even back then everyone freaked out when Black Sails came out, and started calling them sellouts then! They were still on Nitro at the time. Dude, are you even reading your comment? What do you want, for them to be unknown starving artists forever? If being a 'sellout' is just making a living and being more widely appreciated for what you do, who are you to begrudge them that? They've worked really hard to get where they are. Don't you think they deserve success? Anyway, I don't think that they're sellouts. They worked for around ten years before they got anything even achieving mainstream success, which I mean, they didn't turn it down, but that wasn't their sole goal. They just wanted to do what they loved. And if they can make a living at the same time, that's great.
Alecia G Yes they did instantly change between albums. Not the first two obviously, but compare the art of drowning to sing the sorrow. Everyone is always saying the art of drowning is the last good AFI album. And I don't remember AFI saying multiple times that everybody freaked out and called them sellouts over black sails in the sunset. Show me an interview / video. Also, I don't think AFI were "unknown starving artists". We all know they weren't really popular back then but we all obviously know they weren't some band playing at house parties forever. They had fans and people coming to their shows. And please read the beginning of my comment again. I don't think making a living is selling out, but I did explain why I think they did sell out.
They should of changed their named once they got that new guitarist that brough them into a completely different genre. AFI were my favorite band, but now im even Embarassed to try and explain how good they were back in the day.
AFI has changed, and that's cool, they are free to do what they want. I prefer the old stuff, it better suits my mood. The thing that most bothers me and let me down was that Davey stated in an interview that they were never going to play any of their old stuff because they were past that.. It seriously felt like they were forgetting about their fans who were there since the beginning. P.S. assault on the ice cream man led by a fat kid... EPIC
I love this video it reminds me of that episode of Malcolm in the Middle when they get stuck on the highway and the ice cream man won’t give them ice cream lol

this is the AFI i know and love
Donovan Douglas you have good taste then man!
Donovan Douglas yeah bit society has become so sjw it even killed this genre. Now we can’t enjoy this. Everyone’s worse than emo crybabies.

hehe no worries! the good thing is at least to hear it
OffLeatherWings I guess it never is too late, although 2016 AFI is leagues different than 1998 AFI.
30 here and still loves this
16 year old me and now 38 year old, still love this band and this era of afi. One of the greatest punk bands ever.
I miss this version of the band

All I think is him saying, "All I ever wanted was to be in a hardcore band..."
AFI will always be my favorite band no matter how much their style changes. So hyped to see them in February!
its not what there doing now..its what they done in the past that makes them legendary.this song is so simple and its one of there best.
really need a non potato upload of this video in my life rn
It has to be out there
It's on a old DVD comp if I recall. Jelly beans or smth

I first saw this video in 2008 and it's crazy how this is still out there. This is a treasure from the 90s dont lose this man.

That's why we do BlankTV, so people can see stuff they won't see anywhere else.

I feel Danzig's influence heavily here !
no surprise he lead Samhain tribute band Son of Sam, perfectly i might add
TheJohnnyThunders that Davey sang in
