A memory from Scott Nienhaus who was in her band in this video = It's hard to believe that on this day 23 years ago, we lost our friend, Nicolette Larson. We first met around 1989, when our group ACOUSTICITY went on tour with The Ozark Mountain Daredevils and a solo Nicolette. It was on the first night of the tour in Wichita, Kansas when we ended our set with a long jam during WOODEN SHIPS, and a rocking encore of WOODSTOCK. As we came into the dressing room, we saw her for the first time. She was standing with arms crossed, and her bejeweled cowboy boots tapping furiously. She was pissed off! She had been told we were a four-piece acoustic band. We were a five-piece electric/acoustic band... The next show was in Golden, Colorado. Nicolette wanted to go on first, not wanting to follow us. (Really???) lol! Still pissed... We assured her that it would be fine. So instead of our usual set, we played all acoustic songs, with Tim Politte leaving the drum kit in the truck, playing only congas. She was quite pleased with our transformation, and the rest of the tour was great! Her last night with that line-up was in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. I had the pleasure of driving her the 45 minute trip to the airport, around 3 or 4 in the morning. It was a huge thrill for me. She told many stories of recording with Neil Young, and the famous story of how she found a demo of LOTTA LOVE on the floorboard of his car, which became a #1 hit for her in 1978. We arrived at the airport a little early for her flight, so she offered to buy me breakfast. During the conversation, she asked if our group, ACOUSTICITY, would be interested in going out with her as her back-up band! ARE YOU KIDDING???? So the following year, we (Chris Casamento, keyboards/guitar/vocals, C.J. Summerfield, guitar/keyboards/vocals, Todd Jones, bass, Tim Politte, drums/vocals, Mike 'Moses' Beck, FOH and myself, guitar/keyboards/congas/vocals became The Nicolette Larson Band, touring many ski-resorts in the Great Northwest. The highlight was when we toured Japan with Bernie Leadon in 1991. She was a joy to work for, and a true professional!!! Great times were had by all! We will always miss her. As I watch her, I'm both pleased and saddened. Pleased to have some film of her, and saddened that I never saw this beautiful, honey voiced lady perform. Love you Nicolette - RIP.
She was my girlfriend senior year in high school, in Kansas City, for about 9 months. I was playing guitar in a church coffee house that summer and this incredibly hot girl in her cheerleader outfit came in, She was into music, took a shine to me, rocked my world. She never sang a note with me, she was too shy, but we had a great time until I got really sick that fall and things went a bit sideways. A few years later,, I'm back from college in the summer, she was back too from being in California, we're sitting on my front porch, she shows me a couple of things on guitar she's learned (one of them was David Crosby's "Triad"), and I showed her a few things that she seemed to appreciate. She sang a bit, but it was that kind of singing where it's sort of under your breath, you're not singing with your full, real voice. I had no idea how she might be able to sing, she would never sing for me. Fast forward a few years, I'm in graduate school in Seattle, I'm walking down the street, passing Tower Records, and there's a life-sized cardboard cutout standup thing of her in the window. I go in and say that's Nickie Larson, that's my girlfriend in the window.... The guy says so, like, you wanna buy her album dude? Yeah I did. We had a nice reconnection that next year. We lost her so much too soon. I understand her lovely daughter Elsie May is now a performer...

One of the most gifted female artists of all time. Few can perform at a level that rises to the musical heights of Joni Mitchell yet in her own special way and sound. All so influenced by Neil Young. I am sure it had to be a fully contracted multi-video production company with a "live shoot call" line director for the live wide projection screens & then a post-production producer later editing all the camera angles together, then adding in a properly multi-tracked audio mix down. In other words, it probably just wasn't "one person" filming this, standing out in the audience, like in the non sensible, horrific cellphone video recordings we have today, filling up our viewing times, as our lowest form of common denominator. I interviewed & took a photo with her in 1981, when she and then boyfriend & album producer Andrew Gold were playing in Rock/Pop/Classic Folk celebrity softball game for charity; their softball team was known as The Hollywood Hoovers. I was with a couple L.A. based radio stations at the time and did my best to promote her "ALL DRESSED UP AND NO PLACE TO GO" album. Unfortunately, sales were lackluster on that project, due to what "I" believe was The Warner Brothers Group attempt to fulfill her contract with that one last album, then cutting ties with her. God was good to her, having MCA/Universal picking her up in the mid 80's and allowing her to explore a more country pop theme in their 2 or 3 albums with her, all culminating with her 1994 final release of children's lullaby album put out by the BIG GUYS on the record business block, Sony (CBS) Music Entertainment. She left us all, just a very short 3 years later. BolsaChicaRadio

Fantastic piece of musical history. The original concert, I believe came out on VHS?, has Bernie Leadon opening for her, then the approximate 28 min. Nicolette concert. It's a shame not all of her albums are easy to get on cd now. A couple of the later ones go for up to $100 now.
