  • A Singapore-flagged ship Dali lost power, regained only to lose again, and drifted into the Francis Scott Key Bridge in the city of Baltimore, Maryland. As soon as the ship lost power, it alerted the Port authority with a Mayday distress signal that enabled them to stop traffic on the bridge, thus saving precious lives. What could have caused it?

The cross beams in (lattice structure) are designed to counter balance forces of adjacent beams calculating longitudinal and vertical vector forces.
Lattice structures are designed considering "highest wind pressure of a particular zone". But here due to collision, there was an impact oscillation (vibration) of multiple magnitude & frequency of Sine waves. So the members (beams) give way, simultaneously.

I think you already know that I'm a master mariner (with 12+years at sea and another 13 years in shore-based) operations, I can tell you that blackouts (Main Engine failures) are quite common, in fact more common that we'd like them to be. That being said, if you read maritime press shch as Tradewindsnews, you'll realise that she suffered blackouts even during her port stay at Baltimore. I'd still go with the conventional and more plausible explanations for now. Let the NTSB do its work please before subscribing to conspiracy theories 🙏🏾

Very good coverage. The way the bridge fell looks like it is very old may be 100 years and it is not properly maintained repaired and properly strngthened. If ship hits a pier of bridge the ship should colapse and sink not the bridge. The bridge is definitely not maintained and colapsed instantaneously. Within seconds. Should be weak bridge due to age.

Generally two generator run during pilotage, both failed then it is fuel problem or some common problem, need to investigate, was bow thruster running or over speed trip etc. then when power resumed it seems only emergency generator, then when black smoke came it is when another generator started, however as per regulation standby main generator must start and come in load before emergency generator, this is major point to investigate

The ship had just left the port of Baltimore and was headed for Colombo, Sri Lanka, was not being piloted by its own crew, but by local pilots who are used specifically to avoid accidents. This is reported widely. If local pilots are in charge (as was the case when a ship blocked the Suez canal), why is that not brought up?

Under maritime law, all foreign flagged vessels must be piloted into state ports by a state licensed pilot so the Dali's pilot is licensed by Association of Maryland Pilots. Diamond described the incident based on information from the Maryland agency that licensed the pilot aboard the ship.
So crew was indeed Indian but ship was actually being piloted by two Baltimore port pilots not by the Indian crew
