My Dad loved Abu Garcia reels. He did a lot of trout fishing here in NSW Australia. Press button release . I forget its name but the spool was inside a round metal cover. It never got tangles. I still have those reels which we used from 1960s up into 2005 when he was unable to fish . I remember a little pin used to get worn but Dad always managed to solve the wear and tear problems. Can’t complain about the quality.. they still work having been used in the surf , lakes, rivers and streams. A truly fantastic reel.

@ thanks, yes they were a spinning reel now you jog my memory. He first bought one for spinning for trout in streams around the Adelong ,Batlow, district. Used for every other type of fishing as well. All those good times are in the past. Dads gone at age 90 , I’m no kid any more and i just can’t seem to part with those reels and our two little flip rods.
