I really don’t think those are related, money is not the issue. The current budgets are more than enough to tackle a good chunk of the problem. It’s just that it’s poorly allocated. A lot of cities do this on purpose because if they actually cut down the homeless population the budget for next year will be reduced. So they keep using these programs that do not work, essentially just a band aid to cover up the issue. That Way they get more and more funding to “fix the issue”
What we should do is spend all our tax money on helping people who have permanently damaged their own brain by choice, by doing drugs. Once their mind is melted from their own choices we should then give them everything on a silver Platter while the average non drug taking Joe works his ass off all his life just to end up in the same position as someone who melted their brain with drugs
I am homeless in the UK 🇬🇧 I built a cabin on some unused land . Set uo an address, received mail, registration at the doctors . I've been here 5 years . Today, it's snowing -2c My fire 🔥 is warm. I work, I have a car 🚗 for work . I don't do drugs, drink occasionally. I left my long-term partner everything as I have a son... No help here in the UK..the charity that is supposed to care pays the Directors £135,000 salary. So I stand alone, on my own 2 feet .
I am pretty much in the same situation. I have a 5-man tent in a small wood next to a motorway that seems to be owned by no one. The locals know I am here but leave me alone. The police did a welfare check on me last winter, but have since left me alone. I also work and don't do any illegal substances. I am saving a lot of money and investing. I really want to build a cabin, but I am a little worried I would get kicked out and lose it. But if no one seems bothered by me now, then maybe I could build it. I am thinking of starting off with a wooden gazebo and decking, then building it up with wood slats and insulation bored.
@martync7436 That's the gamble . Building a cabin , however , worth living and losing or keeping . I was in a tent for 6 months. Also, last week, I had a welfare check ✔️ from the police 🚔
The population of Anchorage is 285,000 and there are 3,000 homeless souls in Anchorage. You can not find a studio apt under $1,000. My rent went up $400 in 2 years, everything went up but pay. I am making 40% less! One illness and I will be out on the street. There are no open shelter beds. There are both black bears and grizzlies in the woods and inside the city,. In the Winter they open up a hockey stadium for people to sleep in. Most of Alaska is dry. Anchorage is wet. The cheapest jug of vodka before tax is 22.99 with a store card. Alcohol is very expensive. It starts snowing here in October. Its below freezing by the end of October and WInter is in the negative numbers. It stops snowing mid May (It snowed over 110 inches in Anchorage this past Winter. It starts raining and rains most of the Summer, nearly everyday. Another problem is a great deal of the population are Maga Republicans who only care about themselves.
Cost of living even in ''affordable'' states is way up and this will be a problem everywhere. Where I moved rent was approx 400 a month for a pretty decent place. The last 2 years now it has gone up to 1,100 dollars a month, with minimum wage being only 7.25 an hour. I am not sure how people are making it, but by the skin of their teeth. When one more thing is loaded on their plate to have to deal with, I expect many more people to snap from the stress of every day living.
Actually, Florida has the highest unhoused population in the United States. California is actually building tiny house villages for the unhoused homeless population. In fact Florida doesn't even distinguish between unhoused and homeless.
@@aroundamericabut when you figure what the bums contribute to a community, zilch, they dont deserve a long life expectancy. If these communities had the balls to take care of those they should, the taxpayers, theyd run all these scumbags out. Where do they go, you ask? Who cares? Once cities kick em to the curb, they can either get back to being part of society or they can go straight to hell.
freezing is one of the hazards of being an urban wilderness person. if you are going to live outdoors in alaska, then you better double up on your thermals.
One thing that is often misrepresented, is how different States define homelessness. California has unhoused classification, and homeless classification. Homeless can be any person who doesn't own or lease a home (exp. 18 yo living with parents is considered homeless but not unhoused). While Florida has the highest number of unhoused in the nation, but doesn't top the homeless list, based on how homelessness is defined in Florida. Just be wearing of how the truth is often twisted to support an agenda.
I don't know what it costs to keep someone in a shelter there. But lets say it costs the govt $1000 a month. If the govt offered a bus ticket to anywhere in the US instead, it might be what just some of these people need. They'd still be homeless, but at least they wouldn't freeze to death. I know it's not a good idea to just move a problem somewhere else, but it's better than the alternative there.
We have a large Native population that have been kicked out of their villages and can not go home. They come to Anchorage. They belong in Alaska and not anywhere else. Plus, you would need a passport to go through Canada to get to the US if you took ground transportation. You can't even drive all over Alaska. There are mountain ranges and islands. Lots of wilderness.
The problem will not be fixed by shuffling the homeless population from state to state. Each state and city needs to implement a solid plan of immediate housing and support services. Ironically, the plan being implemented in Finland is based on a plan pitched and rejected by most states here in the US as a nonsense approach that wouldn't work. Clearly, it can and does work. Until we as a country make a concentrated long-term effort to address this problem, it will not change.
Yep super cheap and easy to move away from Alaska when you’re already struggling with money… that’s not a realistic expectation for most Americans… a plane ticket or a ferry ticket from Alaska to anywhere is ridiculously expensive imagine trying to move everything you own across the globe
Were you aware that about 60% of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck with nothing to fall back on ( no savings) & only 1 paycheck away from homelessness? This is a serious problem in America.
Yeah, and trump won't help the homeless, just wealthy investors. Don't be delusional, critically think before hard headed ignorance takes control. Oh no. The ignorance is increasing.
our government would rather send billions of dollars to other countries other then working on trying to fix the homeless problems
Hey, way to try to deflect from a long standing issue by bringing up a totally unrelated subject.

6 out of 5 people know all this already or everybody is for themselves. Mmmmh??? Mmmmh???
I'd love if my tax money was spent on a system like Finland's rather than let people die on the streets. Ignoring the problem isn't working

Sounds great but different population and different culture. Wouldn't work here.
Make some log cabins out of those trees.
Good, nature always finds a way.
The Indians lived here and survived so think about that!!
You realize the average life expectancy since then has almost doubled so no they really didn’t survive not for extremely long life’s at least

Three hots and a cot..
And in the summer they get badly sunburned!

Boy. It’s almost cold enough to get a job.
I think about this a lot
I want a “roof under my head”

Imagine moving all the way to Alaska and the government moves a bunch of black people into your nieborhood
Watching from Africa.
I am black.
@@Kite-te9km I said a bunch. More then 2 is too many black people.

Yes that’s it you solved the problem
It occurred to me that there wouldn't be world hunger, if you people would MOVE WHERE THE FOOD IS!!
