Riddle of Kneeling Corpse In Pink Socks. Known As Fred The Head

An off-duty policeman stumbled upon the upper half of a skull alongside the River Trent in Burton in March 1971. Further excavating at the site revealed the skull belonged to a man who had been buried in a kneeling position with his hands tied and wearing pink socks. The only personal possession on him was his wedding ring. After months of investigation, including the co-operation of police forces from Interpol and in Australia, the authorities had come nowhere near to discovering the man's identity.
In 2017, a DNA analysis led police to believe it could be John Henry Jones from Trevor, near Wrexham in North Wales, who had gone missing in 1970. This proved to be incorrect, and neither case has been solved. It was believed the man was not local and may even have been from Eastern Europe. The case is included here, but after an autopsy and expert opinion, no cause of death was ever recorded and the police filed the case as a 'suspicious death'.Fred The Head

"...the identification of Fred grows slimmer with each passing year"- No, not if you use genetic genealogy, which apparently cannot be used- why-?- which would very likely link him through dna to a family tree. Even distantly related people can be identified this way. Also, the resurgence of interest and incredible sleuthing done through the podcast also means more likely identification. :) Time to update the last sentence of this excellent vid.

It's very strange to be buried like that in a kneeling position.. Was it torture or a game of some sort, maybe he was buried alive, this case always fascinated me

They think it was Anthony Hardy The Camden Ripper who grew up in that exact same area. He would have been 20 years old around the time of the murder.

I wonder if the pink socks could be indicative of a transvestite or perhaps they were put onto him by his killers during some type of humiliation ritual. More likely I would expect the former
