Some notable example of using skin to "aid" gameplay might include
1. Special flashlight skin, putting big black tint around cursor so that you can't see anything on FL (I think it's used by -GN. Same goes with putting black tint on HP bar so that you can only see if you have low HP (I think it has been discussed before in tokakus video) - not exactly making the game easier per se. -GN being -GN.
2. Changing the slider tick sounds and look, so that it's easier to slider cheesing (Ikenai borderline +HT from Mafham uses this kinda trick - still hard af tho)
3. Are we going to forget how skin nowadays removes 300 score information, lol

that ez thing was pretty cool, i used animated circles to turn the circles red on the last frame which happens to line up with the timing window to hit 300 on most maps.

I remember Cr1m's skin when I first found it 3-4 years ago probably idk but how the circle instantly vanishes(no hitcircle animation or whatever) which instantly resulted in better reading.

I'm confused why you compared mapping to skinning in terms of being "useful" cuz mapping isn't even about utility
I guess you could create training diffs with basic OD, AR, HP or CS changes or cut, speed up and slow down songs that might be more useful and simple than changing your background like you used as an example

other than that, yeah you do have a point, they're just both really different things (but I think skinning is just more useful in general considering you can take your skill outside of it)

CeilingWaffle's Skin com-pletely removes the hitcircle expand out and fade animation when you hit a circle. Next frame it's completely gone.
