- Shout To The Lord by Darlene Zschech (of Hillsong) was one of my all-time favorite worship songs in the early to mid 90's. I was in high school from '94 to '98, and during that time worship music was very influential in my life (that's when I learned to play guitar as well). This song was a staple for us at youth group and events like summer camp and youth conferences.
I'm playing this in the key of G. There are many arrangements of this song out there - this one is sort of my own take on it.

Mate. Just wanna let you know that your covers & videos absolutely inspire me as a young worship guitarist to achieve the best possible tone. I'm from Australia & your videos hit someone like me across the globe. Been playing guitar for just a bit over 6 years, 1 and a bit year in the worship team & let me tell you this: DON'T STOP! I've noticed one thing that really separates a guitarist from a worship guitarist. Anyone can play, but unless you're connected with holy spirit, you will not sing (on your instrument). I remember the first time joining my youth band, not having the chops I do now. There would be times I would struggle & literally stick to playing simple lead lines & remembering one of Brad's video's about lead guitar. This allowed me to move my focus away from playing & instead singing on my instrument. In my mind I was telling myself that I need to play more, get noticed in the mix & make myself the priority. I was down talking myself, listening to the voices in my head that I wasn't good enough by playing simple stuff. But I was ignoring my heart & longing to worship the lord. Let me tell you guys this. So! from what I can see, you guys don't just play & sing....you guys sing & worship from the heart and I can tell. So thanks Brian & Bradford for all that you do & keep making videos to empower young guys like me & guitarists around the globe. PEACE!

Think there will be any electric installments in the throwback series? I find a lot of people like myself are playing these older songs in more traditional churches and can't find electric resources.
That's a great question! The style and tone used back in the 90's was way different - and not to mention the music was much more driven by acoustic guitar and keys. It would be fun to create newer more modern parts for some of these, though. Something like "If Shout To The Lord was written in 2019", ha.

Hi i believe that u played this in key of G. If i am correct what do you call the additional chord that is out of the scale.? In this case F major. I always wonder what those chords call when they fit the song but its not in the scale ur playing with. God bless... Thank u
The ‘7’ in the key of G is F#. In this case, the F is a flat 7. Or you could think of the song as being in Mixolydian mode. In Mixolydian, the 7th is flat.
