    Sir David Attenborough doesn’t need notes what a man! I feel privileged to be here to witness him.

    A very worthwhile recognition of one of the unsung heroes of science and natural history. In an age of instant celebrity and dubious fame, this is true and enduring fame with enormous impact to our understanding of the natural world. Well done Bill Bailey and Sir David Attenborough for your marvelous speeches and the contributors for all their efforts.

    I watched the TV series created by Bill Bailey on Wallace and I must admit that I had never heard of Wallace up until that time and I was totally in awe of the man. The TV series was so bloody good !!

      Bill Bailey should step up the the plate when we inevitably lose the titan that is David Attenborough. You can tell he loves the natural world and it adds so much to voiceover on those programs compared to having just any old actor read a script.

    Is the Museum over a train station? Sculpture is an everlasting tribute to Wallace. Wonderful

    WOW. Is that over-dudded or is there some kind of awesome noise cancelling system in use. Every time Bailey pauses for a breath , you can hear the background noise, but it totally disappears when he speaks . At first I thought that Bailey's quips were falling flat.

    Fitting that Wallace is posed in action. On the job ! While Darwin is slumped and seated. At last ! Well played Bill.

    Wallace v Darwin its Wallace for me , from a modest background ,and having to self fund his own expeditiony research he did not have the luxury of Darwin's grand expedition and Darwin's father's insights into evolution .Wallace did it the hard way ,extensive field study, it's nice to see Darwin's moon finally get a day in the sun

    They were really great speeches BUT...I just hope the Museum had at least offered & recommended the microphone and a chair on the stage for Sir David Attenborough to stay seated while he gave his speech...I'm sure he probably would've rejected (or did reject) the proposal anyway

    It was great reading how Darwin made sure Wallace was looked after in old age. He made sure he received a pension and the means to live out his life as he so rightly deserved. They remained on good terms until Darwin's passing and Wallace never allowed Darwin's name to be put down although they had a difference of opinions later in life.

    What is Wallace holding in his right hand ?

    • @blaberus1
      @blaberus1  8 лет назад +8

      +Frenchlad A butterfly net - but in the video you can't see it properly. It was actually based on a photo of my hand holding my butterfly net!

      +blaberus1 Do you know an article, a video or a table explaining simply and briefly the differences between Wallace's theory and Darwin's ? (in French, if possible)

    • @blaberus1
      @blaberus1  8 лет назад +2

      +Frenchlad There is no difference - their theories of natural selection were the same and were published together in 1858.

    • @Frenchlad
      @Frenchlad 8 лет назад

      +blaberus1 1) I was told that Wallace shared with Darwin the concept of adaptation, but not in the sense of a general progress (from the worse to the ideal). It seems that Wallace had no value judgment. 2) How would you explain his very restricted popularity, compared to Darwin's ?

    • @varahamihiragopu6667
      @varahamihiragopu6667 7 лет назад

      One difference apparently was that Wallace believed selection happens among the whole group (or species) where Darwin believed it happened at individual level. Eventually Darwin convinced Wallace to come around to his view. But this is a repeat of someone else's remarks, I don't know if that was the actually difference between their opinions

    Why do you want to disprove God? Answer so you don't have to worry about what sins you do. Live by morals but where do these come from? We not just animals we have a spirit and understanding of the answers to life. The bible tells us the answers. Jesus told us the answers.
