    Cayla is so awesome btw! Regarding Poor Things though, I definitely think if you don't have it in your Top 5 for BP, I think you definitely should be updating them ASAP! It's definitely contending in Actress, Director, Both Supp Actors, Screenplay, PD, Costumes, Makeup, & probably Sound. I don't see it getting Score considering the guy doing it is a legit no-name, and VFX just because the field is weak right now doesn't make any sense either

    • @akshudhavala836
      @akshudhavala836 8 месяцев назад +3

      Having seen the movie, the score’s unique and stand out enough to the point that I can see it overcoming the no-name hurdle for a nom. It won’t really win though

    • @gocinema252
      @gocinema252 8 месяцев назад +1

      I wouldn’t say VFX is weak, The Creator, Oppenheimer, Guardians of the Galaxy 3, Dungeons & Dragons will probably all get nominated, and you have several other blockbusters that could get it like Indiana Jones 5 (as much as I don’t like the film, the Effects are mostly good) Little Mermaid is a maybe, and Blue Beetle as a long shot.

      @blacktoad2425 8 месяцев назад

      @@joser1853 Yeah but we can't be sure of its momentum yet. EEAAO's momentum was clearly apparent in January, but Poor Things needs that to stay alive, so until January, I don't personally see a reason to predict them.

    I saw the movie at a festival in Sofia and I saw myself in Cayla, maybe we share the same brain, Lanthimos is also my boy and I adore him, I feel exactly like her, a 9 out of 10 as a sucker for his work, but I agree with all the critics. Sadly, the movie is a comercial take of the Lanthimos style, The Lobster, The Favourite, Killing of a Sacred Deer and Dogtooth all remain superior for us - his loyal fans.
    And if you want to dive in in this world, watch the underrated masterpiece The Great (3 seasons, 30 episodes, all written by the brilliant mind of Tony McNamara).

    Ruffalo 's pursuit-of (+ checking /complementing) Stone at the outset of her erratic /to-wit impulse-driven 'overture' on a posh Lisbon dance-floor --- indeed assimilating his step & timing w/ Emma 's crass 'foray' of-sorts (+ w/ aplomb, no less) --- is unprecedented in cinema; ...if 'nt sheer magic withal! A 'neat contemporary-dance 'precedent' (video-short) would be 'To Get Her' (by 'Jukstapoz Dance Co.') from a decade back. Inasfar as their (overall) prowess as 'accomplished thespians' is an issue, I find Emma & Mark (+ Wilhelm) quite convincing --- given the abject complexities exacted by the plot 's (abstruse?) roles, as such --- + inasmuch as the scenario allows for any & all juvenile(-or-no) propensities (vis a vis one another) free reign thruout! ***THAT SAID, + irrespective of how said protagonists are ever intriguing, enthralling + what-have-you (thruout); ...i 'm NOT comfortable w/ the crass, to-wit unnecessary 'porn' (for lack of a better word) this flick 's riddled-w/ during it 's 2nd-half! Just 'cause others (incl. Emma; as fellow producer) are funding one 's ambitions-on-screen should 'nt give an abjectly 'irreverent' director 'carte blanche' to screw w/ convention!

    Just saw Poor Things, it just arrived to Mexico. I felt it was Pinocchio, exactly the same story: it was created, no parents, has to learn and grow quickly, takes on journey without the consent of the guardian, and the list goes on and on and on. That’s why I got bored quite quickly it was almost too predictable how it was to end. I guess that’s why Brother Bro it made a circle. Aside the technical and histrionic achievements, I did like it, but didn’t find anything special.

    So, I had very high expectations and finally saw it yesterday. here's my opinion: Emma's acting was not as fluent as ever, it was the very first time when I felt her "acting" rather than just being that character. I don't think that this was her best performance, because there were moments I found inauthentic or overacted, seemingly "do as if". Then the whole problematic with male gaze, the non-consensual sex with a minor (brain), the centre of the story being a sexual exploration etc. I mean, I get it yes and if I skip all my ethical and philosophical viewpoints the film is entertaining and nice to watch. I can't understand why anyone would call it a Masterpiece but certain scenes and moments and all the technical categories were exceptional. All in all, I was not disappointed but I'm pretty neutral about it. The movie and story didn't hook me. Mark Ruffalo saved it for me and some funny scenes. Maybe I will think of it differently in 5+ years?

    I'm one of the few movie fans who is put off by the trailer. I know that the Emma Stone character is supposed to be a grown woman with a baby's brain but she nonetheless seems over-the-top in a predictable way. I know "big acting" is sometimes called for but sometimes big acting, is just big acting.

  • @nicoleann0703

    Update: Putting my personal opinions of the film aside, from what I saw in the movie i really appreciated the acting (especially Emma Stone's), costumes, and the set. From a personal standpoint, I used to work with special needs' children so for the first half of the film i felt like she was almost being exploited when the sexual stuff started because her age is much younger than her adult body looks. Because i personally hate watching sex scenes in front of other people and especially in front of strangers, I left the movie early even before Mark Ruffalo came in. Since this film is getting so much acclaim, I WILL give it another chance and rent it, and I'll probably like and appreciate the movie (not love it). I personally agree with the critics who feel that her sexual liberation is told from a mansplaining perspective. I usually agree with positive reviews that the critics give of films, but sometimes I do disagree with them on occasion because of my personal tastes. But i WILL give this film another chance when I can rent it, so that i can give a more objective opinion regardless of my personal discomforts with the film.

      It's getting worse. If you have these issues like me: there's really no need to rewatch it. why would you put yourself through it? for what? don't do it! You won't miss anything.

      @@rays.9635Update; I watched it and I LOVED it. It's a very funny movie, and Emma was phenomenal. Nothing has gotten worse for me you don't know me from Adam, luckily I have therapy for my issues, Lol, and I like to watch movies that are different from my usual taste because I love analyzing film and challenging myself mentally.

      @@rays.9635 I just saw it a few days ago, and I loved it. Emma Stone is phenomenal, and the movie was very funny to me. Putting the mansplaining regarding her sexuality and the developing of her brain aside, I understand why critics love the movie. Production design was amazing. While it's not my favorite film of the year, I do like to watch movies that critics love even if not all of them are my usual taste in order to challenge myself mentally and analyze film. Fortunately, I have therapy for my "issues," thank goodness.

    Emma Stone has a chance to be nominated for Best Actress. But for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay, Poor Things have big competition like Oppenheimer, Barbie and Killers Of The Flower Moon.
