Kingswood Forest stretched from the walled city of Bristol, into North Somerset and across South Gloucestershire to the Severn - from the time of the early Roman settlements, through Anglo Saxon royalty, to the rape of the forest by rich landowners.

I grew up in Kingswood in the 70’s and beyond…. Very interesting but most certainly not the view I had of the place, working class nice people on the whole peppered with endless fighting.
Really cool to hear the history and will spew the facts to anyone who cares to listen.
My Lewtons and Brains all came from this area - Richard Lewton=Ann Baggaridge, my ggggrandparents - he was master clockmaker, lived on Kingswood Hill. Siston, Hanham, Pucklechurch, Bitton, Mangotsfield - they are all in my Lewton-Brain family tree. As I'm doing my family tree, it is very moving to see where ancestors lived. Our lot were sturdy tradesmen but the naughty Lewtons and Brains were members of the Cock Road gang - which is why I think that my family chose the double barrelled name, to distinguish themselves from the brigands. I also understand why some of our family were coal-miners. Also Jane Luton Brane who was transported. Thank you for this doc! And thank you Lori for telling me about it!

Grew up in Oldbury court👍 vassals Park was my playground👍we used to have a leaf mulch mound that we used to jump into off the cliffs👍. The Robin of Sherwood producers used it all to cover the concrete paths😒 Great informative vid. Thnx👍

Hi, I'm from St George, Bristol, now living in Arizona, USA.
I used to travel around this area, mostly for leisure purposes, and, not having lived in England for 30+ years, it's nostalgic to see the
old places' again. Must admit, I was ignorant of the Pucklechurch history, not that I knew that particularly well. When travelling to Bath (from Bristol) I would have taken the Hanham Rd, through Bitton as it was more convenient that travelling through Kingswood, Wick, etc.

Wonderful, an amazing amount of historic detail. I worked in and around this large area, for 25 years, although many of the roads, street names, and land mark names are familiar , I wasn't able to spend time investigating further. This, you might say, is catch-up time. and very informative and interesting it is.
Interesting. This video must be some years old now as Blackhorse Road has changed a lot, the two days schools were turned into flats quite a few years back and just recently the church was also converted into flats with graves being tarmacked over for parking.
It is a fair few years since we made it. You should be able to see the date on screen right at the end.
Funny that the videos themselves have become ‘historical’ since we made them (as have the producers 😂).
