- It has been revealed that none of the structures that were attacked in Kolhapur’s Vishalgad were illegal.
In the recent violence near the historic Vishalgad fort in Kolhapur, self-proclaimed Shivaji devotees wreaked havoc on homes and a mosque. Despite the stay order on demolition by the court, hundreds armed with weapons attacked the local Muslim community, resulting in injuries to both residents and police officers.
The violence raises questions about the true motives behind these actions and the role of Hindutva organizations in stirring communal tensions. In 1976, by 42 amendment of the constitution of India, the word secular has been incorporated in the preamble of our constitution. It is to be remembered by all that constitution of our country is the supreme ruler, even above the president of India. Therefore, parochial approach by any person or a group of persons over an issue, irrespective of his/her affiliation to a political party Congress/BJP is to be condemned by all.
