    This has to be one of the sexiest swims on RUclips lol
    I'm remind3e me of my Watauga PFD. Had one run on the Upper Yough before it, but was pretty much at the peak of my abilities. Anyways, after styling Bump and Grind and Shitkicker, I got my ass completely kicked at Hydro. I flipped on the top move, rolled up, went into the Intrinsic Hole backwards, got locked into a side surf, and ended up swimming down the rest of the rapid through the bottom hole. I should also mention that it was a lovely day in March. 40 degrees and raining.
    Good thing I was with Leland Davis. He ended up dragging my water logged ass out of the river in the pool below. Good times.

      @@Modern_Family really, in some flat water, practice that head dink. It's Fricken miraculous.

    Just a note to anyone attempting the cascades for the first time.
    If you’re line through Horns of God goes like this guys does, it may be best to reevaluate your decision to attempt the run.
    No shame in saving yourself a beat down and saving the run for a day when your skills are ready.

      No shame in getting a beat down or having a little a swim. Did you ever swim on the Sukgon?

    Good to see you made it out in 1 piece! Strap a go-pro on your head and you get to re-live it over and over. You should watch this footage on your 80th birthday with your grandkids. 😁😁😁

    The head dink, when you're starting to lean, THROWING HEAD TOWARD THE WATER, works like a hip snap and will right your boat. It's hard to learn, but it's worked for me in a number of tight spots, like when my right blade is way under water and we're listing right... From your GoPro, we can see you pulling your head up on rolls and keeping your head vertical (UP) as your boat is going over.
    Throw your head toward the water & presto, up you come...

    Back when I used to kayak, I had an epic swim on Coliseum rapid on the Cheat at high water one time after getting surfed in the top hole for like 5 minutes. That was memorable.

      Michael, correct answer my friend. That was a couple of years ago when my head was a better flotation device than my PFD! I have learned a ton since that beat down! Cheers man thanks for watching!

    • @Michael65429
      @Michael65429 4 года назад +7

      @@Modern_Family I've been there too and it seems like that was the only way I learned anything. I like your analogy of the head being a flotation device!
      And, looking back, my comment came off a bit harsh... sorry bout that. Like your videos, brings back old memories...
