  • Tim Schott, the NWR service lead, and his team will present the Partial County Alerting Webinar. With a NOAA Weather Radio network reaching 97 percent of the US population, five WFOs successfully implemented Partial County Alerting (PCA) for one or more of their counties. PCA implementation means users receive fewer warnings on NWR Specific Area Message Encoding (SAME) receivers and TV, radio and cable systems monitoring NWS warnings can make more targeted decisions on when to interrupt local programming. Existing PCA capabilities are moving into AWIPS beginning in 2023, along with additional dissemination enhancements. This webinar will be of interest for offices with geographically large counties; counties with unique shapes; counties with distinct weather patterns; and counties with population concentrations and particularly where there have been complaints of too many EAS alerts.
