Hurray 🙌 I bought two identical diffusers a week ago for a vacation in Greece. Since my homemade diffuser is too big for the hand luggage. So your video comes just in time ! Nice to hear that you get along with them 😊 that gives me security. Fantastic videos keep up the good work 😁👍
You mentioned this diffusor a long time ago in one of your videos and i bought one. Great value for the money! It is always in my bag, because folded it is soooo small.
Genom att följa din kanal har jag införskaffat en sådan diffuser och en 7Artisans 60mm 2,8 till min Nikon Z50. Fungerar alldeles utmärkt. Du har verkligen fått mej helt såld på macrofotografering,
I recently bought the Laowa 100mm (What a lens!) and find that the diffuser is capable of turning the aperture ring if your not careful. I now have a 6x5 softbox which goes on the flash itself and no altered apertures.
I got one quite similar about a week ago and I'm rather pleased with the results, but I did go ahead and order a magnetic pope shield this evening to give a try come warm weather. Thanks for all that you do!
The advantage of the Dörr diffurser over other, similar ones is the flexible inner ring. Most other on-lens diffusers don't have that, so if you have a narrower lens, like the Olympus 60mm or other lenses for M43, those diffusers won't hold their position once you let go - you always have to hold them in place, all the time. I'm very happy with my Dörr diffuser, but I'm thinking about maybe trying out the Pope diffuser soon.
I use the same setup. I have the custom "AK" diffuser for my Nikon D850; but I find it just to bulky and cumbersome just to gain 1 F-Stop in flash output. "Simplicity is divinity".
Couple of comments about this type of diffuser - after watching your videos a lot, I got myself a Laowa 85mm and a (clone of) that Dorr diffuser. I resolved the issue with the Laowa being too thin for the hole in the diffuser with some white elastic stitched around the hole to narrow it up. The flash I was using was a Yongnuo YN560-IV. The Yongnuo is physically much taller than the Meike MK-320, which results in the flash hitting the diffuser fairly high up. At 1:1 magnification this is fine, but at 2:1 magnification the subject is sufficiently close when using the Laowa 85mm that the diffuser actually backlights the subject, resulting in dark shots. I also then got a Meike MK-320, and when I did, this issue completely vanished. The Meike is significantly lower than the Yongnuo, and slightly further forwards, which results in the flash 'striking' lower down the diffuser and avoiding backlighting when used at 2:1. The setup works great - Canon R7, Meike MK-320 flash, Laowa 85mm lens, Dorr-clone diffuser. Thanks so much for producing your videos, it's been an enormous help! Much appreciated.
Looking forward to your review of the AK diffuser and comparing it with this DÖRR diffuser. I guess maybe the former would have better result but don't know by how much amount. It seems Amazon (US) does not carry this DÖRR diffuser but a similar (or identical?) one called 'Angler' costing about US$12.
I use the exact same diffusor due to you... i like it a lot but recently i added something to test... i got a flash diffusor/softbox mounted on the flash. Cause my thought is: When i use a diffusor/softbox on the flash to bundle and guide the light onto the dörr surface, less flash-power might be more/same so i don' t have to put much power on the flash, save battery or flash faster in a row, than with more power without the flash diffusor/softbox..... still have to do some testphotos in order to check the results... but that might be a good idea
Hi Micael and thanks for your wonderful pictures and your videos here. I am an independent photographer unifying business and passion, as much as possible around nature and wildlife. I get a Sony A7IV, a lens Sigma 105mm Macro and a Godox V1 flash with its kit AK-R1. I also have the diffusion dome Godox ML-CD15. Do you think that Godox ML-CD15 or Godox AK-R11 + AK-R12 are well enough as diffusers for macro photography outside ?
I have a very similar diffuser as well. I also created a DIY diffuser using my old R1C1 & SB-R200 heads and Trick Bits + Foam Shipping Material the combo works well.
Good video. Do I recall you doing a similar one a few years ago? If so it was on your recommendation that I bought a similar on in the UK from EBay. I use it as my main diffuser for macro and have been very pleased with it. Thanks!
I never made a video specifically about the diffuser, but I have probably talked about it in earlier videos, and I have certainly been using it a lot in many videos!
I like the simplicity of this one. But it doesn't seems to be available anymore. Any similar alternatives? (disregarding the cheaps clones who stretch over time) I'm in Europe. Thanks!
@@MicaelWidell I'm wondering now if this could work with my macro lens (Tamron SP90mm 2.8 F017) as the focus ring is a bit long. Does it moves along your ring or there's some space to move the ring while the diffuser stay in place?
With a tripod Quick release mounted on the bottom of the câmera, transversal tô the câmera orientation, the edge proeminente of the tripod mount serves as a permanent holder for the bottom of the difuser to keep it at an angle. Just like a permanent finger and you have you finger free for a more steady hold of the câmera. Difficult to Express in words, but cannot post image here. The difuser keeps steady between the mount and the bottom of the lens
How would you compare this to the homemade “Pringles” diffusor? I made the diffusor one - two weeks ago, but thinking of upgrading to this since it’s so cheap😊 Do you agree on that? Great video!
They give similar results I guess, but hard to tell since I haven't explicitly compared them. Try comparing the photos in this video with the ones in my pringles diffuser video, and see if you can spot a difference in look :)
Hello I live in Toronto Canada. I also have the laowa 65 for xmount. The only alternative for the dorr diffuser is the lumpna on Amazon in which reviews say it’s useless for small lenses. My question to you is, if I was to send you the money for the diffuser and shipping, what would be the total? Obviously I would send the money first before expecting you to do anything.
Hi Micael. I have been following you along, and I recently got in to macro photography. My setup is almost the same setup as yours; Meike MK-320, Laowa 25, Laowa 85 and a7R IV. It's a great, versatile and light setup, but I only have a cheap diffuser so far, so I would appreciate some advice here. Since you have gotten the 85mm, which diffusers do you use with the 25 and 85; is there one that can fit both without sincere compromise, or are two necessary for the best results? If so, which for each of them? This is when the cheap diffusers are out of the equation, and we focus on shields and such. When I type cheap, I mean the universal, round ones, like the DÖRR. I have one quite similiar to it, but I always have to wrap my hand around both the camera and diffuser, which hurts over time. Also, I'm almost always at 1/2 or above in speed with the flash with this diffuser. I saw that you recommend shields as the AK and Pope, but all the needed measuring and accessories confuse me, and I'm uncertain if one can fit both. Oh, and one more question; how do I setup the MK-320 to avoid the not-fired "black images"? I use it in manual mode, but often, the flash doesn't go off when I take a few images in a row. Is there some high sync setting that one must activate, like on Godox? I use the same batteries as you. This is a great passion for sure. Sometimes I need to focus on certain genres, as I tend to do it all. Got niche lenses for every genre. Thanks in advance!
I ordered a pope shield for my 85mm but haven’t had time to try it yet. For the 25mm I often use an external flash with a globe diffuser. I have videos on all these things, check my diffuser playlist. When it comes to the flash the key is to use good batteries. I use GP photo flash batteries and never ever have a black frame.
@@MicaelWidell Thanks! I will give both diffusers a try. I'm using the GP ReCyko Pro AA 2000 mAh batteries. Are they not good enough? When I used the Godox V1, I didn't get black frames. It broke. though, as I dropped it, but I'm a lot happier with the weight and size of the Meike anyway.
i bought the other version of this product it works okay but the difference between mine and yours seems to be the dorr product has a much better designed hole, the cheaper ones do not have an elastic part around the hole, it does stretch still but something like 10% of the Dorr diffuser, i found it difficult or impossible to put this over some of my vintage lenses that have 68mm lenses, i did stretch it around a 62, but doing so made it fit loosely on all my 58mm lenses, so i just want to warn people if you have some chonky old lenses or lenses bigger than 58-62mm look for the better ones or ones with velcro cuz the cheap-O brands work but stretch out and then you cant keep it upright around the lens, it flops over unless you tilt it and hold it with an index finger, it's just annoying, i'd much rather spend 2$ more and get a good one.
The lack of elastic center hole is exactly the problem I've found with the alternatives, it is a pain getting it over any larger lenses and doesn't have enough play for the tilting forward Micael is demonstrating here. Now to try and get one in the UK...
I have found best way for us UK guys to replicate the DORR one (miles better fit on lenses), is a stick foam padded tape around the hole. The foam compresses and will fit securely on most lenses. Alas i think the joys of Brexit related shipping issues, means DORR don't offer shipping to England when i checked the drop down menu.
Hi Micael, just wondering have you ever reviewed Canon M50Mark ii body for macro photography. I currently use Canon t3i and would like to upgrade to a newer Canon camera, any suggestions?
Sorry I am not too familiar with Canon bodies. I would go for the R series though as I think the M mount might be dead soon. Have you seen the R7 and R10?
Hi Mic, the diffuser is not avaible, do you know other store where to buy ? On amazon i found only chinese clone but the hole is to large for laowa lense
I’m sorry but I suspect that these might not be sold anymore. They are out of stock at my retailer as well. You might need to get one of a different brand. Maybe try emailing DÖRR and asking them directly.
Thanks to your videos I bought this diffuser but non-brand. It is really great for macro but has one disadvantage: I completely don't know to wrap it up properly and fit into bag. I've tried everything :(
Not sure it is possible with the non-brand ones, but what I do is I hold each end of the diffuser in each hand, than twist the whole diffuser a couple of turns while pressing the ends together.
I have been wondering if the godox Ak-R1 kit has good options for macro photography, and you mentioned ak? diffusor, did you mean the ones in the AK-R1 kit?
Some of your information is just plain wrong. I use a Canon R5 without flash at routinely high shutter speeds. Around 2000/s on average. My macro shots are spectacular. I only go to lower shutter speeds to show wing movement on let's say hummingbirds or moths.
Where may I see your spectacular macro shots? It would be amazing to see as you would be the only world class macro photographer who doesn’t use a flash.
