Nottingham Brick Festival has restored my faith in LEGO conventions after Brick Fest Live at The NEC last week, and hopefully this video will convince you to give your local brick event a try next time it's in town. Not all brick festivals are bad, and this one proves it! I told you all last week that you could go to better events in a school sports hall!

National Brick Events are even better than Brick Festivals and they go all over the UK. So much for families to do and there was someone selling minifigures far cheaper than I have found at Brick Festivals

I went to Nottingham brickfest 2023, it was really great! I bought a ticket back in Dec for 2024, but I got made redundant end of April, so I had to move out of Nottingham and had to cancel going to it. I was going with a friend from uni this year, so it really does suck. I emailed them and asked them if I could exchange my ticket for Brighton brickfest and they oblieged! Thanks for doing this vlog really made me feel as if I was there!

The annual one (late April) here in Trondheim, Norway pretty much consists of only builders displaying their builds. That is cool and all that, and I can appreciate the hassle for sellers and resellers to get to here and then to maybe break even money-wise, but I really miss the opportunity to hunt for bargains.

Went to the Southampton one in April, it was my first ever lego event of any kind and I spent way too much very quickly. 😅 Basically started my minifig collection right there, plus I got one of the tropical fish sets that were real lego bricks but put together by another company. I already had one of the set of like 20, but the place I bought it from is long closed so I was very happy to see it. There was also a stand where they had kits of their own design for sale! Mythical creatures. That same stall had some 3d printed fan minifig accessories. The variety of stuff to buy made it amazing, it seems insane that Brick Fest Live didn't have any independent stallholders. I am rather jealous of how easily you approached all those stalls! Southampton was rammed, though maybe it got better later in the day. It was a smaller area, it kind of had the opposite problem of BFL, they only used part of the hall and definitely needed more room! I will check back with them next year i think.

Ahh Blacktron. I had the Alpha Centauri Outpost (6988) when I was a kid. I loved that set. Especially the ship that came with it with the detachable pod. I think I had another separate pod too. I eventually cannabalised the parts for my own designs, but I remember coming up with what all the little circles and squares on the control panels did, like opening doors and separating the ship.
Oh! And the little car that fit in the back! ... Good times.

Milton Keynes had the Brick Festival and the Brick Fest Live in the same week. The Brick Festival had run previously and I have to admit I found the similarity between the two names confusing. The two events were massively different though, with the Brick Festival one being much more what we were looking for with all the traders and still plenty of displays and a building area and we spent a good couple of hours there. It was also a lot cheaper and you got a free polybag on the door (I think this might have just been for people who paid for early entrance, which we did as we were working in the afternoon).

Now that’s a proper convention. I’ve got that VW Kombi unbuilt but with no box that turned up at a local charity shop. I just need to buy a Yellow Submarine set, and that brilliant Fender Stratocaster and matching amp. A great video, and a single digit to the NEC for that shambles.

Fairly new to Lego (after a gap of 50+ years, lol) . . . it's less messy than Airfix!!! and last year I went to the local brick festival in Oxford. I was very impressed, not only with the array of vendors, and the effective organisation of the event, play areas etc, but also the array of MOCs on show, and custom kits/bricks etc available. I could have come away very poor (if it wasn't for the fact I was already poor going in, lol!). I came away with the big lunar lander and a custom lightsabre. Very pleased. One thing I learned though: Do NOT rely on the yellow paper bags when you have to walk home from the station in pouring rain!! This year (oh wait, it's only two weeks away!) I'll be taking a sturdy plastic carryall!

Second time we have been to the Nottingham Brick Festival, and much better than the NEC one looked from your previous video; very glad we didn't pay for that one. Imagine it was very deliberate that the NEC organisers have picked a very similar name, and very much intended to ride on the back of these events. Was a shame you didn't talk to the guy at 12:05, displaying The Nightmare Before Christmas set, as that's the fan designer who was picked for the forthcoming official set. While NDA'd on that set up to his eyes, he was able to chat about Lego in general, and his previous visits to Billund and best way to get around once there. Nice guy.

I did one of these a few months back in Rotheram, and apart from half the vendors complaining the whole time that no one came, it really was a smaller event after seeing your video. The entirety of Hall 1 and the final children's play area was the only thing available. Far fewer display sections, and similarly, felt like the best sets from vendors would have gone to the early ticket buyers. But equally unless the vendors spread out the limited sets over their tour, whoever gets to the first show of the year can probably swoop up as many rare ones as they want and then its not even worth buying an early ticket for later events.

    Hi!
It looks like it’s a good idea to go to these events after the mad rush?
My wife just pieced together the Town Hall set using the correct LEGO pieces. There were a few pricey items, such as the green modified bricks used for the doors, and the clock face. But, it didn’t cost her more than £150. She also pieced together the Market Street set, again using the correct LEGO pieces. The really expensive items were the white hoses used for the balcony. They were £10 each and you needed 4.
As for the Scooby Doo Mystery Machine, the Mrs snagged a complete, boxed set for £38! There’s bargains about….
I get it, these dealers are selling retired and boxed sets. But, with a little effort….
I liked the One More Brick stand. Some useful buts for any city.
I have never attended a brick festival. Maybe it’s time I did?
