      Thank you! I was watching that scene wondering if it was just me feeling like there were so many hilarious moments: the conversation with Marian, Anne loading the pistol (or whatever she was doing), Ann watching and moving aside all smitten, the 'plum pudding apology'...so hilarious, so many layers.

    Wow! That is so great that the BBC invited you to the screening. That is very, very cool. 👍. They recognize an influencer when they see one. 👍. And you got to meet Suranne! Excellent! Can’t wait to watch S2 here in the states. Can’t afford the streaming service it’s on now, but will get the series later. Until then, I will delight in your reviews and snippets of the show that will inevitably appear on YT. 💕

    Your sense of humor, "spicy like an Italian sandwich."😂 I love your reviews, they are well thought out, and honest. After KE😭 thank God for Gentleman Jack. Marianne is definitely not going quietly into the night, and Ann Walker's aunt definitely going to align the "tribe" to cause trouble. Your response to meeting Suranne, mine would have been the same. So happy that you got to meet her. I just love that we are literally following Anne's life, and that this really happened. I love it all, Anne, Ann, Sophie, Suranne, all the other cast, the cinematography, writing, costume design, the humor, and chemistry. Top tier acting by all. 👏👌🎩♥️

    Great review! In real life and on the show, Ann Walker truly was incredibly brave. She may not have been as bold as Anne Lister but she DID live her life with her as a "married" couple - something Marianne was too scared & weak to do. And Ann didn't have the support of her family as Anne Lister did. Quite the opposite. Yet, Ann Walker has / had this IMO very unfair image of being weak. She battled a homophobic society, death of her beloved brother, and a cruel family hell bent on labeling her "unstable" so they could control her inheritance. She deserves more credit for her strength & resilience.
    I love the scenes when Ann Walker stands up to Anne Lister ever so gently. Anne isn't controlling her or pushing her around! Lol

      She never married. In 1836 she left Shibden and returned to live at the family's Skelfler estate in Market Weighton, which she inherited on the death of her and Anne's father Jeremy. So don’t worry too much about her cough, she outlives the whole family.

    Suranne Jones is such an amazing talent she’s made us fall in love with AL…seeing past her manipulative and controlling behavior. We end up viewing AW’s family as the enemy while AL has cut AW off from her family, is constantly making subtle demands and never apologizing for anything. And here we are still totally rooting for and loving her.

    I'm new to this show, in S2 (it's only pure serendipity that I get to watch it at all), and the family relationships can be HELLA confusing . . . but I believe the older woman at Shibden is her _aunt,_ not her mother (her father's sister).

      I get the impression (at least from British fiction!) that because mortality rates are so high, aunts&uncles are as involved w/ nieces&nephews as parents&children are contemporaneously (because parents so often lost children, and children lost parents).

    Clearly that affair is going to happen. But it also seems it won't last but for so long. The Listers prefer Miss Walker for Anne. Its crazy to say she is not in love with Miss Walker. When her actions of wanting to do things for her tells a different story. I think she is in love with Miss Walker and cant see it because she is scared of being hurt again.

    Well, fortunately or unfortunately I've read a bit of the diaries so I know that Anne and Mariana did not have an affair, but did have a one last night fling, so there's that to look forward to if, indeed, Sally has not made up anything.

    • @mswildi
      @mswildi 2 года назад +4

      @@csmith5420 I don't agree. To me an affair suggests a liaison tat takes place over time, not a one night stand. But to each his or her own.
      It is worth noting that Anne deeply regretted the act and wrote that it was not worth risking breaking Ann's heart.

      Where in the diaries does AL say she had an affair with Mariana after she "married" Ann Walker? In Anne Choma's book, AL was not keen on Mariana's visit and rejected her offers of a romantic liaison. AL says "I am not sorry she (MB) is gone." (12th November 1836). Can anyone cite the diary entry where AL talks about cheating on Ann Walker??

    • @EgamiGlow
      @EgamiGlow 2 года назад +2

      I totally understand if "affair" has some connotations that feel a little too intense for what happened once Ann and Anne were married. Maybe saying that Anne "cheated" or briefly "stepped out on Ann" with Mariana might work...? Whatever we want to call it, I'm getting my popcorn ready for it so.

    • @mswildi

      I had the great privilege of meeting Gillian Anderson at a comic con and the first thing she said to me when she looked up was, "Gosh I love your glasses!" I was already so nervous to meet her and her unexpected and sincere compliment almost killed me dead on the spot. 🙈 She was so kind though; could tell I was flustered beyond comprehension and took her time to ask me questions and sign a poster for me.

  • @bonniehealey4058
    @bonniehealey4058 2 года назад +2

    I totally disagree about Anne and Mariana having an affair. I so want Anne and Ann to have happiness. Mariana hurt Anne several times about Anne's masculine appearance, etc. Ann Walker accepted Anne as she was, and never asked or expected her to change. And Ann Walker married Anne against so much pressure and so many obstacles that Anne Lister never had. Mariana kept Anne on a string for almost 20 years, but preferred the prestige of being Charles Lawton's wife. Anne Lister would be a step down. Even Anne Lister knew that. So, no; I can see from the trailers that Anne and Mariana will probably have an affair, but I'm not happy about it at all! If Anne Walker ever found out it could put her back in Steph's asylum all over again! What an avoidable tragedy that would be!!! Having said this, I will watch all 8 episodes. Sophie and Suranne are just too good to miss.

    Watching season 1 again and it finally makes sense why AL was so reluctant to introduce AW to her friends etc and is so overprotective. AL is so scared that a little hiccup might trigger AW to go into a deep depression like if she feels out of place or finds out about all the lovers AL had in the past. AL is trying to keep AW moving at a slow pace and AW thinks she’s all ready for AL’s world because she has gained some confidence.

    We are very excited about the intimacy coordinator Ita O’Brien of Gentleman Jack as the publishers of Lesbian Kama Sutra website (also paperback The Art of Lesbian Lovemaking, A Lesbian Kama Sutra by Rose Black) due to news quote: “O’Brien is an 'intimacy coordinator' and has opened up about the research she carried out for the racier moments in the series, she told The Sun: "I had to do quite a lot of research for 'Gentleman Jack'. I used a lesbian Kama Sutra...The important thing was to have a template -- if you have a text that explains what positions the women favour and how they make love, then you can really honour that.”

    I would not want steamy affairs in real life (if married) but I am all for it on screen (despite the historical reference making this a true event).
    By the way: I was far from enthusiastic when this show first aired (mistook it for yet another lesbian period drama). Luckily, your videos turned me into a fan who can now see that this show has more to offer.
