    It was cool to see how fast the governor reacted to each of the heaters being turned on. Not all of them are that quick and smooth. Maybe one of these days I'll finally fix the hunting issue on my old Homelite/Briggs generator. I've always had to leave the choke on slightly, or it runs exactly like this one did before the repair. It runs great otherwise, and the speed is right on.

    My Generator is surging and hunting while on load. I've cleaned the carburetor (all jets and holes). While on idle, it runs pretty great. But as soon as the load comes in, it is starting to hunt. My generator is 50 Hz model and when I checked for frequency, 50~51 Hz (idle) and 47~55 Hz (on load). Does anyone have a great idea for me?

    • @jcondon1
      @jcondon1  2 года назад +1

      Does it run any better when adding choke? If so then maybe your main jet is not letting enough fuel through. Surging is normally caused by running lean. Could also have a gasket issue between the carb and engine or maybe the governor spring is too close to the governor shaft making the governor oscillate. 99% if the time it is running lean.

    • @alexfannick1515
      @alexfannick1515 2 года назад +1

      Today I ordered some gaskets for carbuerator and replaced it all. It was running better on quater choke. I replaced the air filter with some thick sponge I could easily get. I think I messed up the fuel air ratio by not using the original filter. Should i use the original one? Thanks for your opinion.

  • @zardiw
    @zardiw Год назад

    When you shut off the gas....how come it dies?......There's still fuel in the bowl.......so you really want it to run gas out of the bowl so you don't get any resin etc. build up......I learned that on my generator....which keeps running after you shut off the gas, until the carb runs dry.......if you do that it will start every time ......PS.....I think it's a venting issue on the carb........Z.

    • @jcondon1
      @jcondon1  2 года назад +2

      More often then not the stator or rotor has failed. The 3.8 volts is residual magnetism in the rotor. The rotor is not powering up. Either bad brushes, bad AVR or a problem in the stator with the excitation winding (DPE winding).

      A lot of the Honda clone generators have cheap $40 tanks available on eBay. So usually go with that. Otherwise tanks can be $200-$400 dollars if they are available at all. I have used evaporate to clean up a few tanks, but it takes at least a week to work and can only do so much. If I ever get one that I cannot fix or replace then would add a fuel pump for an external tank or convert to propane, but always check the tank before buying. They are not worth much without a stock tank.

    The two things I despise about these generators, oil drains all over the frame and carb gets interference from the frame, making propane conversion a pita. When I was a lot younger, I thought CAD was going these kinds of problems. And then things got worse, at least on cars. They became able to get consistency so good, that they could guarantee you'd have a 1/16" too little clearance space, on every manufactured unit. ;) I have a small drawer with my "custom" harley tools, that were once good tools, but now they fit for things like 1" long allen head intake manifold bolts that have 1/4" of space to back out, once you loosen them with a "custom" tool.

    Don't you love it when they talk themselves down? I usually hit them with another $20 at that point. There's a reason for it besides me being cheap. If you jump on their offer they wonder if you would have paid more, it eats people up. If you ever have to deal with them again, they'll have it in the back of their minds that you screwed them over. So if you knock them down a little more and they say no, everyone goes away happy. If they say yes, well you get to wonder if you could have gotten more.

Replaced a blown head gasket, new coil, new carb, new gasket kit for the fuel pump, new kill switch, new air cleaner, new fuel filter, new gas and oil change. She starts and runs but has a constant hunt and surge issue. This is foreign to me. Not sure where to start but will be working on it.
