My parents and I met Hugh O'Brian many years ago at the height of his Wyatt Earp fame. He was, of course, extremely handsome but also warm, personable and humble. He was what a star should be and now never are. He is wonderful here. At the age of 90, he is warm, personable and humble yet again. True class never ages.
Mr. O'Brian was one of my childhood heroes. Now, knowing he served our country as a U.S. Marine, it is so humbling to see a true patriot. The mold has been broken for men like him. The greatest generation indeed. I hope you are in heaven in your glorified body, OoooRahhhhh!
I will "always" be grateful to Mr O'Brian. He (along with Liz Taylor) visited children in hospitals in the LA area back in 1957. My older sister was dying of leukemia at age 11 and they visited her there. It comforts me to think they went out of their way to do this. I never hear of this happening, today from celebrities with all their riches.
His brother,Don, married my mother's friend,Jean. I was friends with Jean's son and daughter. He got us tickets to the first Ontario 500 race in 1969. I was 13 years old when we visited him at his house and needless to say,I was completely starstruck. He was a very good guy and I will always remember his kindness.
To those who are critical of how he looks: Just keep living long enough! No one writing now can predict how health issues and life issues will affect their looks and ability to exercise. I really admire his sharp mind at almost 90 years old!
Since he appeared to have a cane in the video, he probably had knee or hip problems, and that is why he was way heavier than even a few years prior to that interview. It also appears his hearing was going out with the headphones and all. He was still sharp as a tack. RIP.

when I first arrived in Vietnam I was assigned to a MACV Advisory team in the Mekong Delta. it was close to Christmas and a lot of Hollywood stars were showing up in all parts of the country. it just happened that Hugh O'Brian came to visit our Advisory team and gave a little demonstration of his gun skills and we all chatted about Hollywood. He never once mentioned that he was a Marine and was the most humble guy I ever met. a really nice experience.

I was an Official U.S. Army war correspondent during the Vietnam War in all of 1967 and 1968, when I served with the 1st Infantry Division (The Big Red One) out of it's two main basecamps at Lai Khe and Di-An. I interviewed Hugh O'Brien in Lai Khe when he visited the main Big Red One Base Camp in 1968 with a USO traveling show that entertained the troops. The Hugh O'Brian Youth Foundation changed my life. It took a hick kid from Pennsylvania and opened up the world for me. I am forever grateful. All that he asked for a one week experience at the University of Miami that presented the field of oceanography to myself and 49 others was that I write a letter to him for the next 10 years on my birthday letting him know how I was doing.. I did it with joy and it helped keep my life on track. I could not let him down. A TRULY GREAT human being.

When I was teaching high school in the South Bronx (Hugh's inspiration) two of my students were selected for a HOBY scholarship and I had the honor of explaining to them what they were in for. It also changed their lives, with one getting a full ride to Boston College.

Thanks for the interview, Connie. Hugh O'Brian is one of the great stars of the 1950s and 1960s. What Cooper and Gable were to movies, he was to television. Many people today don't realize what a top star he was when he played Wyatt Earp. I enjoyed the series right from it's premiere season in 1955 and know well how folks loved it. Enjoyed your interview and his stories. He's darn sharp for almost 90!

A very interesting interview. When I got out of the Marine Corps in 1981 I started teaching school. I had an evening job at the Hyatt Hotel on Capitol Hill as a bellman. Hugh O'Brien checked in the hotel one Saturday afternoon and I showed him up to his room. I remember he was really a bowl-legged man and he was kind of short, but a very nice man. We spoke on our way to his room and I mentioned that I had recently discharged out the Marine Corps. He lit up and told me that he was also in the Corps. He then asked me if I knew who was the youngest Marine Corps Drill Instructor in Corp history? When I told him I didn't know, he proudly told me that it was him. I was surprised and pleased. I got his autograph and left him in his room. I will never forget the time I spent with a fellow Marine and a great actor. BTW, they show Wyatt Earp reruns on the TV in this area and it is very interesting to see how realistic Hugh O Brien plays his character and how well written the script is for that time.

Hugh also had only one fan club with a chapter in each state. I was the Michigan state chairperson around 1960. He liked the members to visit children in the hospital in his name. Nice memories.
My Grandmother Ruth McPherson was almost 93 when she passed away. My mother sobbed in my arms, devastated! She had a hard life, mother and daughter both! They spoiled the dickens out of me but they raised me to be a believer. Grandma taught me about Jesus when I spent the summer with her at age six!

I met the great man many years ago. He had a great impact on my brother's life and mine. His Youth Foundation will continue to have such an impact in his name into the future.

I met him at a party maybe 20 years ago and he looked exactly the same as he did on Wyatt Earp. Well maybe not exactly but he looked good. He would also come to the Wyatt Earp Days in Colton California, where the Earp family settled, and he lead the parade along with my step dad, Gene Evans, a Colton native who had the TV show My Friend Flicka, about the same time as the wider series. It was an emotional treat to meet him.
I am watching Wyatt Earp right now. He was great in that television program. May he rest in peace. I just found out he has passed away. 😢 I thank him in my heart for his service.

I have been a long time fan of the Life & Legend of Wyatt Earp, the Six Seasons of which I watched and subsequently purchased and still watch to this very day. Rest in Peace Sir. They shall not grow old, as we who are left grow old. Time shall not weary them nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun; and in the morning; WE SHALL REMEMBER THEM. Lest We Forget!
He's gained a lot of weight which isn't healthy but he's reached into his 90s and speaks very well. Seems like he's got a sense of humour and not whining about anything, interesting guy. I wish him well for a long life!!

Hugh is a Great man with an Amazing Legacy. He has earned and deserves our respect. For his Military service, and Acting Career, But Most importantly Hugh Founded HOBY. HOBY (The Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership program) is an International program that has changed the lives of hundreds of thousands of our youth. And a program that I am proud to be a part of.
When I was 13 I had the biggest crush on him. LOL I am not disappointed in his looks. I'm 73 and I don't look anything like I did when I was young. That's just the way life is.
My daughter won the state of WV Hoby and went to the international In Indianapolis. Having this opportunity and the privilege of meeting Hugh was one of the highlights of her life. She just celebrated her 53 rd birthday. We her parents grew up in the 50’s and were avid fans of Wyatt Earp.
I will be very grateful and blessed to live 91 years. Hopefully I'll know my name and where I live. Enjoyed watching Hugh O'brian , he was one of my favorite actors.
I hope I have his mind and his ability to remember and recall if I am blessed to get older.The hell with how he looks here . Give me my mind and the ability to move around.

Hugh O'Brian is gone. As Wyatt Earp he was a screen legend but in real life...he was even bigger. Youngest Marine Corp. Instructor at 17! Dedicated his life to his organization that worked to make young men out of boys. R.I.P. Hugh

I think he looks great for 90 and it`s so great listening to him ...He could pass for late 70`s... Sure he`s put on weight and he`s gone grey and looks much older but that`s certainly not unusual.. He looks like a great old fisherman full of wisdom with interesting old stories to share.... I can`t believe so many people are making negative comments about his appearance .

It's great to see Hugh again. He has done great good for young students all over the globe and especially here in the U.S. with his foundation. Hugh Charles Krampe (Hugh O'Brian) has always had a great sense of humor and its great to see he has kept it all these years and in his new book.

You know that wasn't his birth name. It was a misspelling of his stage name, a family name he took when he decided Krampe could easily be misspelled and was.
I met the great man many years ago. He had a great impact on my brother's life and mine. His Youth Foundation will continue to have such an impact in his name into the future.

Looking at Hugh makes me realize my mortality and I must say it's a little scary~! Wyatt Earp was one of my favorite TV Shows as a young boy and he did a great job giving us boys someone to look up to and be a real man in a normal society. Where did we go wrong~?????
Hugh O'Brian came to visit us grunts at the DMZ in Viet-Nam in 1967. He was a nice man & answered many of our questions concerning his career.

I met him at a party maybe 20 years ago and he looked exactly the same as he did on Wyatt Earp. Well maybe not exactly but he looked good. He would also come to the Wyatt Earp Days in Colton California, where the Earp family settled, and he lead the parade along with my step dad, Gene Evans, a Colton native who had the TV show My Friend Flicka, about the same time as the wider series. It was an emotional treat to meet him.

At his age he can look any way he wants!

I am watching Wyatt Earp right now. He was great in that television program. May he rest in peace. I just found out he has passed away. 😢 I thank him in my heart for his service.

Met Hugh O'Brian back when I was about 9 in 1967 he was visiting Norfolk Va. My dad was the limousine driver. As I had epilepsy I was with him. Hugh O'Brian just died? This suddens me!

HOBY (The Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership program) is an International program that has changed the lives of hundreds of thousands of our youth. And a program that I am proud to be a part of.

Steve Polhill - I met Hugh in Denver at Hoby International 1987. I remember my HOBY experience fondly. Great opportunities for youth!
When I was 13 I had the biggest crush on him. LOL I am not disappointed in his looks. I'm 73 and I don't look anything like I did when I was young. That's just the way life is.
My daughter won the state of WV Hoby and went to the international In Indianapolis. Having this opportunity and the privilege of meeting Hugh was one of the highlights of her life. She just celebrated her 53 rd birthday. We her parents grew up in the 50’s and were avid fans of Wyatt Earp.
I watched the show here on youtube until they took them down.. Love the show.. Rest in peace Hugh..
I will be very grateful and blessed to live 91 years. Hopefully I'll know my name and where I live. Enjoyed watching Hugh O'brian , he was one of my favorite actors.

Spencer Tracy was so wonderful but so was Hugh O’Brian, he was so handsome. It’s hard to see you hero’s from your childhood so aged. I know it happens to all of us. You just don’t think of it happening to them.
