This is great, I wish I’d had guidance like these videos back when I was a dancer! Unfortunately my hair was always way too thick to do a French roll myself; I always loved the way it looked and wished I could do it. In Nutcracker I had to have it in a French roll for snow scene one year, which was a bit of a disaster. It required no fewer than three people, a LOT of water and gel, tons of bobby pins, and a great deal of muscle power to secure it. I’d always get a neck and headache from it. Eventually they changed the hairdo to a regular bun for the whole company in snow scene, as it became too arduous for all involved to get my hair done before each show. Lol.
You should make a video where you talk about tips for male dancers! Or maybe you could even have a special guest to talk about that. I love your channel and I think you could really tap into a demographic that just doesn't get any attention on RUclips, or really in most media directed at dancers in general. I personally would love some advice on how to jump higher and tips for tours a la seconde, and on how to do a double tour en l'air cause I just cannot turn more than once. I hope that you'll consider my request! ❤️
@ma m That would be ideal, but not everyone has access to a male teacher. Men in dance are a minority, not just as dancers but also as dance teachers. Duh. Besides, a good ballet teacher should be qualified to teach all aspects of ballet. Duh. Most of the guest Male teachers I've had teach pointe classes, despite them not being expected to do pointe as men. A Female teacher should be able to prepare her male students for what they will be expected to do as male dancers. Duh
I just learned how to do a classic ballet bun today I didn't start doing ballet until I was an adult and I'm so glad I started dancing even if was late in life I love ballet so much
Same here. I started a little over three years ago as an adult (Russian) ballet student and haven't looked back. I'm busy with work but try to get in two classes a week. One of the greatest gifts to myself!
Thank you Claudia for a great video. Blonde haired girls have such trouble with hair as we can look bald indeed unless there’s some height at the back. Can’t wait to try out the French twist.
You are such a delightful soul! I stumbled upon your video's watching ballet videos. I used to dance many years ago, but wow you are just such a wonderful spirit. I could watch your video's all day. You are doing an awesome thing here with your online videos! Can't wait for the next one!!
Whoaaaaa great tip for a nice flat bun! I have super thick curly hair and always struggle to get a flat bun. I've never seen that trick before. Thanks!
I was always doing ballet bun and French roll separately, never though could combine them together. I tried and it looks to elegant and mesmerizing! Thank you!
The French Roll is beautiful, but how do girls with (much) longer hair do it? My girls do their ballet buns the same way you do (#2) -- works SO well with really long thick hair.
How you do your bun is actually how I do mine! My ballet teacher told me that how she did it sometimes at the Royal Ballet, she calls it a Danish pastry 😂 she literally goes round making sure that all of our buns are flat when we have dance shows 😂😂
Ok like I’ve watched this before but now that I’m going to summer intensive I want to be really extra and do my hair different every day so thanks for the vid 😂 😆 😝
You have such nice, long hair ;o It suits you! Is there anything that girls with much, much shorter hair can do? I'm not a dancer, however the hairstyles have always been some of my favourites and when I had my long hair it was easy to learn to do them, however now that I've cut off most of my hair, it's harder to find nice styles that dancers use.
How do you deal with cramps during ballet class? Usually I only have cramps on the first day but i just wanted to know how you handle with them. Your channel is just so helpful and i love it!❤
I'm going to try the Halo bun. I need the height. Do you ever do a Balanchine bun? I love those, but I can't get enough volume in my hair to make them look pretty. Thanks for sharing your tips!
Love the styles but my hairs way too long and thick i also cannot hold it up with just pins especially during turns literally one turn and the whole thing would come out... any tips? Ive always had to use at least 4 elastics and pin in a hair net with like 50 pins cos its so heavy
Ah, the secret to any dancer's hairstyle... More hairspray. During my top years I used to run through two bottles per tournament (I had really long hair with basically no texture at all)
These are gorgeous! In December after ballet had finished for the season I went to get my hair cut, but they cut way too much off! Now it's barely at my shoulders and even putting it into a normal bun is terrible! It used to be so long and I could do nearly any style. Do you think there's any chance you could do a video on how to put short hair into a bun? Or at least hairstyles that are suitable for ballet? That would be amazing! Lots of love, Beth xx
Bethany O'Connor hi Beth. Something like this might help...There was a style when I was in ballet school where: 1. the hair was parted down the middle and then 2. On one side you drew a line diagonally from the front of your ear to the top of the head. 3. this triangular portion of hair was put into a mini pony tail or plait on that side near the top of the head. For me, I tied mine really high as it accentuated my cheek bones and just generally suited my face shape. (You could pull the hair much tighter than for a regular bun and it was easy to keep neat.) 4. Repeat on the other side. 5. Collect the remaining hair into a pony tail at the back of the head (preferably high but in your case maybe a bit lower until your hair grows out) 6. Make a bun. 7. Arrange the mini pony tails around the main bun at the back of the head. OR Instead of making a bun. place the last pony tail at the back in a medium low position and then achieve Claudia's halo effect by twisting each pony tail and pinning it to meet the next, creating a circle at the back of the head. Maybe one of these will work, or maybe give you just enough inspiration to figure out something even better! Good luck!
Hi Beth as one of my friends from ballet has a bit longer than shoulder length hair I thought I could help you. I would recommend French plaiting or Dutch plaiting your hair and then pinning the ends of the plaits up to make a cute hairstyle hope this helps 😄.
I'm not a dancer, but I do horseriding, where all my hair has to fit under the helmet (I hate it when stray strands of hair stick out from under it). Since I have quite short hair as well (chin length), I really had to get creative. So, what I usually do is French Boxer plaits on both sides of the head and just pin them into a low bun in my neck. Obviously, this might be too low for a dancer, but you could try doing the bun a little higher... The result looks a bit like Claudia's Halo Style 😊
You and Kathryn Morgan are like the most awesome big ballet sisters ❤️ as a young dancer I’m so grateful for all your videos and tips!
MusingBallerina Thankyou!! We are hoping to collaborate soon when I visit America! 😍😍

By the way your ponytails are perfect
Best timing ever!!!! I had to do a French twist for my performance but I didn’t know how…
Oh my thank goodness! xx

that makes you a trendsetter :D or influencer?
Same here, I have super thick really long 3a hair, and doing it like these are always disasters..
Everyone in my ballet class does their bun differently 😂

Hey Claudia! It's M from Harlequin here. That French twist from the Royal is absolutely stunning. Wish my hair was a bit longer so I could do it!

Hi Ms Claudia! I was wondering if you’d like to do a Bollywood VS hip hop VS Ballet video..? Or any other styles of dance. I’d love to see it!
I did the halo exactly a year ago today and you said it was beautiful
You’re so pretty! Any advice for the French roll for thick, longer hair? 😊

So good coz I just got back from ballet and I’m going to ballet class tomorrow
I'm going to try the Halo bun. I need the height. Do you ever do a Balanchine bun? I love those, but I can't get enough volume in my hair to make them look pretty. Thanks for sharing your tips!
I think with the halo bun hair gel works better than spray to hide the strays.
Love the styles but my hairs way too long and thick i also cannot hold it up with just pins especially during turns literally one turn and the whole thing would come out... any tips? Ive always had to use at least 4 elastics and pin in a hair net with like 50 pins cos its so heavy
Maisie LB use French pins, a cloth hairnet and braid the hair before twisting into a bun
Lovely hairstyles thank you
Beautiful !😍

Ah, the secret to any dancer's hairstyle... More hairspray. During my top years I used to run through two bottles per tournament (I had really long hair with basically no texture at all)
