Baby gorilla Sumomo was playing with her brother Riki happily. When their father silverback Haoko came to the siblings, Sumomo looked at Haoko and she looked she was surprised at her father's appearance and the size of his body. Haoko is the biggest silverback gorilla in Japan. He weighs 226kg (approx. 498 lb) Haoko sat down to watched over his children playing. Sumomo often takes a glance at Haoko. She just scoots around without a care in the world! I love how spunky she has become. Watching Riki try to keep up with baby Sumomo cracks me up...even HE can't muster up the energy to chase her around.

Cute Riki I always feel bad when his dad comes over every time he wrestles with Sunumo. Dad seems to worry about the little plum a lot Where Riki’s concerned. I recall Momotaro did the same thing to Gentaro when he was wrestling with little Kintara.
She is so active it is nice not to see her held back as Genki would do with Kintaro she barely let him walk a step away without grabbing him or she is way overprotective and it shows. The difference between both troops little ones is night and day
Oh for crying out loud, Kintaro was teensy for a very long time because of Genki‘s either minimal milk or it‘s minimal nutrition-which is a long story in and of itself and, to my mind, the zookeepers deserve huge kudos for their courage in making the correct harrowing decision everyday to keep mom and baby together. Sumomo was ten months old and a sturdy chunk when she rejoined her family after being hand-raised. But that didn‘t stop idiot commenters from bitching and moaning that her siblings were spoiling her, damaging her, by allowing her to clutch tightly to everyone for the first two months-she would never walk, many said. And the zoo should stop them from carrying her! Good grief, she was scared out of her mind, coming from a tiny room and a life with humans, to see the sky, big trees, looming cliffs, the huge expanse of the exhibit, and six gargantuan gorillas. Her family knew what they were doing, they were right to cuddle and carry her until she adjusted and felt safe to start exploring on her own. Just look at her now! I went off the deep end, but I‘m not apologizing. I get thoroughly sick of people who think they know more than momma gorillas and zookeepers.
