Great discovery! Ignore the negative comments- some people are so ignorant. It's obvious that you were only leaving the turf upside down to hi-light where the finds were. And even if you weren't, it's a field (made up of couch and meadow grass), not a front lawn. Some people always want to find a negative, like when you're working on a building site and the new guy turns up and everyone wants to find fault with what he's doing. They need to grow up and enjoy what they're seeing. Great vid guys, well done!
I have watched 100`s of vid`s on detector finds but that was the best ever, two nice people, filmed good, exciting, two great machine`s, I had the X-Terra, a great machine but bit heavy and bad balance for me, ( back problem`s ) I now have the Deus, nice and light... Really enjoyed it, thanks...
+Gerry G glad you enjoyed it gerry... ;-) fingers crossed more will follow..... been over with the deus.... now ive got a ctx 3030 and im gonna be getting a 17 inch coil over the area... see if that winkles any more out...
One of the best vids iv'e seen, i was completly glued to the screen all the way though..Well done lads on a truely magnificant find...GL&HH Not as you need it... Carl
WOW! Fantastic! well done lads! The video was exiting for me...god knows how you felt digging them! i have found a few , but only one at a time! brill video! cheers,G;)
Amazing find, well done guys. Just shows the benefits of carrying a decent camera when you go out. I was able to do the same and film live when my mate and I found that recent hoard of Silver staters. John, borrow yourself a CTX now and go over it a lot slower, remember, Minelab, slow & low, there will definitely be more, lol.
Nice going , great finds. There will be many more coins still there and lots still to deep . You need to find the pot before the night hawkers now move in
I swear you think everyone is ocd they put the plugs back the right way after don't get your panties in a bunch. awesome video guys wish we had stuff like that here, all I find is modern coins and the odd silver ring.
Thank you for such an entertaining video I've only ever found 1 Hammy and I was over the moon you guys must have been in heaven. I really enjoyed this keep them coming please. I've just subscribed ty
Something we all dream of in this hobby. Well done guys absolutely brilliant finds. Glued to the screen the whole time, how lucky can you be? haha HH and good luck in your future hunts. congrats
I can't seem to put my head around how all of those hammered coins were scattered everywhere. Lucky field chaps. Good on ya! In Germany, I have been digging for 3 years and only found 4 Roman but no hammered.
I'd scan the whole area in a grid, make doubly sure there are no more. Then I'd tell the farmer I'm hiring a turf-lifter. Roll that sucker up and scan the bare ground. You'd get another three inches out of that field, easily. When the job is done, just roll out the turf again. Farmer would understand.
IS THE DEUS BETTER THAN THE GOLDMAXX POWER FOR PERFORMANCE, BEEN LOOKING AT UPGRADING TO DEUS FOR ITS LIGHTNESS, BUT MY GOLDMAXX HAS MADE SOME GOOD FINDS, WHAT HAVE YOU FOUND, IS IT WORTH SPENDING THE EXTRA MONEY.
Hi Great video, the coins speak for themselves welldone. on a different note I like your sheath for the digging knife, any idea where I can get one.? thanks
An inquest determines whether a coin hoard of precious metals has been deliberately buried or accidentally lost. In the former case the finder is reimbursed the full value of the coins which is then shared with the owner of the land. The deliberately buried items are classified as Treasure Trove.
Wow that really was fantastic to witness, glad you had a camera. Once you report the coins to the appropriate authorities are you allowed to keep them? or do they get taken away from you to a museum or something? sorry for my lack of knowledge.
yeah all the coins are with the museum at the minute...... they will all be recorded and identified then they will make a decision as to weather they want to buy them or we have them back and split with the farmer 50/50
Great video, well pleased for all concerned. Just a thought, these people with their negative coments must get horrified when they see a field full of mole hills!
What a great video! well done guys, great teamwork and a good tip about placing the sods upside down, I'll be sure to do that when i find a hoard! p.s. Your mate should celebrate by getting a new belt lol
Interesting video, great to see the finds. But your sweep speed seems very fast? Maybe coin machines can cater for such a fast swing, but down here in Australia if you were hunting Gold with a Minelab GPX, you'd be walking past lots of it swinging that quickly. Low and Slow is the motto down here and I have a nice jar of nuggets to prove it :-)
yeah slow and low is the ideal method, after filming and all the excitement we did keep going over the ground real slow and did winkle some more up.... the video is on my personal youtube account: englandshistory take a look its amazing what you miss
Amazing hoard nice video aswell only the 1 cut half for me so far using minelab explorer se pro, just need land like yours made me jealous :) but I enjoyed that half hour watching
Richard if you turn your ears on.... We only left the clods like that to see where they was coming up from... All was turned bk after as per usual.... We did say in the vid... ;-)
Did you not find the main pot of coins? It was obviously struck by the plow and scattered, but the main lot of treasure should be at a larger depth. You need to go back with the type of detector that finds deep meteorites, and locate the buried pot.
Jozsef Nyisztor the hoard could have been put in a leather bag which means it could have rotted away within a few hundred years leaving the coins scattered about.
+Andrew Pattullo ... yeah john first discovered there was something there with the e-terra 705... minelabs are a great machine also... ive even gone to a ctx 3030 my self... ;-)
Thanks for feed back, some replies; Sods left upside down to show where we had found an item to see iof there was a pattern They were all Henry 111 including one Irish cut half and one Dutch Esterling of Brabant C 1267 - 1294, looking like a long cross penny

Well done guys and the Mighty Deus put the icing on the cake.
Absolutely amazing video! Well done fellas come see us some time

You'd get another three inches out of that field, easily. When the job is done, just roll out the turf again. Farmer would understand.
After the turf is up, dig the earth, screen the soil, backfill, lay the sod back.

Hello,
What settings is best for the X terra 705 on pasture?
Interesting video, great to see the finds. But your sweep speed seems very fast? Maybe coin machines can cater for such a fast swing, but down here in Australia if you were hunting Gold with a Minelab GPX, you'd be walking past lots of it swinging that quickly. Low and Slow is the motto down here and I have a nice jar of nuggets to prove it :-)

absolutely amazing well done guys and have you been back to the site since and retraced your steps yet?
all the best
john :)
I'd love to know what happened all those years ago to scatter so much money in such a small area.
How much was all this worth did you get anything for it?
Did you not find the main pot of coins?
It was obviously struck by the plow and scattered, but the main lot of treasure should be at a larger depth.
You need to go back with the type of detector that finds deep meteorites, and locate the buried pot.
+Jozsef Nyisztor no not yet... gotta get the digger in at some point
How do you know the coins were in a pot and not a sack with a hole in?
Jozsef Nyisztor the hoard could have been put in a leather bag which means it could have rotted away within a few hundred years leaving the coins scattered about.
Who's the lad showing his underwear in his work clothes.
??? what coil did the XP have on !!!!!!!! the hoard was found with a MINELAB !!!!! with a standard coil
+Andrew Pattullo ... yeah john first discovered there was something there with the e-terra 705... minelabs are a great machine also... ive even gone to a ctx 3030 my self... ;-)
