As you read Tennyson's writing of the Christmas bells "answering" each other, I was reminded of the passage in Isaiah, where he says the Cherubim cried "ONE TO ANOTHER and said, 'Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God of Hosts.' " (my emphasis)
So beautiful and invoking hope in a mesmerising way, HE is our Daystar... particularly in loss... a matchless gift in loss for me and others - thank you indeed Karen.
Malcolm thank you for this, for this focus on when the Light became speakable. Ps. I am sure many here are mindful of all you have given us through these inspiring visits to your library in 2021. Thank you for the moments of both insight and joy.
Thank you for your ministry as priest and poet during 2021. You have been a great source of hope and a guide in discernment. May the Christ child bring you profound peace and joy.
I am a avid poet, creative photographer and love listening to you sir Malcolm...have an enjoyable 2022 with your dear lovely family and friends from afar...thanking you I found you...
Merry, merry bells of yule! Today, we celebrate the gift of life and the abundant blessings provided by the birth of Jesus Christ. Let our hearts be full of love, our minds rest with peace, and our futures be marked by the boundless potential made possible by our faith on our Savior. Merry Christmas to all!
We lost our baby sister at the end of October. She was such a big part of what made our Christmases special. I'm looking to the warm and human connections of poetry for comfort and strength tonight as well as to that hope and joy only Christ brings. I hope you all have a blessed Christmas
Malcolm, I want to thank you for your videos. When I find life getting away from me I can put on a couple of your videos, light my pipe, and center myself again.
Thank you for reading Tennyson- he is one of my favourites. I followed along in my leatherbound volume which was passed on to me by my aunt and uncle. That passage is especially meaningful to me this year after the death of my mother in June and my father-in-law in March. I have read many of your poems and essays to my two daughters (ages 20 and 28), and they both requested your books for Christmas. One will receive The Singing Bowl and Sounding the Seasons and the other will receive Parable and Paradox, and David's Crown. I am delighted that they both enjoy your work. (My husband favours smoky, peaty whiskies as well. Laphroaig is at the top of his list.) Happy Christmas to you and yours and many wishes for a bright and flourishing New Year!
A wonderful reading Malcolm. Thank you. I hoist a Wee Drappie O't of Laphroaig to yourself. A very Merry Christmas and the Happiest of New Years to you and yours. Gary
Loss a dear member of the church I pastor to covid’s deathly prowl on Saturday night and had to preach in the morning. I recently shared the first part of this poem with another member whose far from family and has a difficult time during the Christmas season. Now I sit with Tennyson as patient instead of physician. Thank you.
Wonderful. Great encouragement when thinking about the empty chairs at this time of year. I've been going through Waiting on the Word and it's been a great journey so far. I also read "Mariner" at the beginning of this month. Thank you for this short visits and have a Merry Christmas! 🎄
Please read more Tennyson! 13:20 - What hymn is this? Surely I've sung these words in church. "Rise Happy Morn! Rise, Holy Morn! Draw forth the cheerful day from night! O Father, touch the East, and light the light that shown when hope was born." Amen.
Love it! Thank you, Malcolm (and Happy Christmas to you and Mrs G). I, too, love Islay malts (peaty and smoky). I also love to read Tennyson at Christmas. On Christmas Eve, I read (what else?) "So all day long, the noise of battle roll'd ... " Only out loud will do, just as you do. Thanks again.
Yes, I wish George could be with us on these videos but in the new house my study is upstairs and we always keep upstairs out of bounds to the dogs -it would be confusing for him if we was allowed in one room and not the others - but hence the barking!
Merry Christmas and happy Solstice Malcolm! Thankyou for your great contribution to the happiness and richness of so many in 2021. It is in the worst times that the hope of Christmas is most needed.
Thank you for that, Malcolm. I never look forward to Christmas as most of my family seem to die around this time. However, l feel a little more uplifted by your reading of Tennyson. Compliments of the season🍺🍷 God bless!
Thank you Malcolm for all of this year's visits to your Library and also for the wonderful Advent day at Sarum College. Happy Christmas to you and your family, and of course George.
I just lost someone to complications of COVID. Not a close friend but a truly treasured acquaintance. It’s hard. Going to ponder this poem a bit more. Merry Christmas to you and yours this season.
It’s always so delightful to hear you speak of your love of poetry, and it t’s inspired me to share that appreciation. I hope the rest of Advent is fruitful for you and you have a very merry Christmastide.
Thank you for inviting us into your study and sharing your love of poetry. Merry Christmas!
