I'm wondering if the plaster walls can be painted, stenciled or even wallpapered. There must be some kind of decor that can applied to add color and style to the room. Something other than tile. Tile and the way it's applied with cement behind it is awfully messy. Almost clinical. It makes the room smaller too.
