With respect: Atom is indivisible particle it is old concept given by Democritus.. But in modern concept atom is divisible in sub-atomic particles Proton,Electon,&Neutron.

Yes, Right and the concept of divisible atom was given by First by JJ Thomas and then Neil Bohr states that atom is divisible in sub-atomic particles Proton, Neutron, and Electron.

Sir thanks for the contribution, but the 1/12th means a single proton or single neutron of carbon, which means that proton or neutron mass in amu is 1, so we basically not dividing the carbon atom but taking a single proton of carbon or a single neutron of the carbon and compare others atoms with that mass. This 1.66 times 10 -24g is the mass of proton or neutron.
