I'll never forget how i had a project in music class and i presented the koto with this video and i got an A+ because my teacher was so in love with the performance and sound. He even did more research and would let me know how he was thinking of getting one 😂😆

Since I saw a woman playing koto in Japan, i'm fascinated by that sound. I can't wait to see it again there. Amazing country, amazing culture, amazing food, and koto was the cherry on top.

When I performed this song it was a 6 minute version her control and speed with the tempo is how a professional level player should do it and her dynamic playing added to the complexity. You don’t realize what it takes to get to this level unless you try the instrument yourself, this was a masterful performance ❤

She's not that in-time. Besides, performers really need to be more musical in their playing than just being in time, even during marches.

Well said!! I highly agree with you. There are a lot of Koto pieces out there like this one and for some reason they haven't gotten a lot of exposure. This is what the Koto world was like around the 1930's and 40's. This is "Tegoto" by Michio miyagi (1947) and it's phenomenal. This is the same guy who modified the Koto to what we now call the "juishichigen" or the 17-stringed base koto to give the koto a wider range of tanalities. He is considered the father of modern Koto music.

This is actually authentic Japanese music. A lot of "Japanese music" on RUclips is really bad New Age and Nail SPA music played with synthesizer and missing all important real elements of traditional Japanese instruments and motifs.

StopFear dude there is a lot of modern music that is authentic Japanese music, I play a 13 strong koto and it’s not as special as it seems it’s a 2,000 year old instrument which is cool and all but it’s not the only authentic music of japan, I live in japan and jpop is just as authentic they have huge concerts in baseball stadiums that are jpop so don’t be calling this authentic and music such as Jpop not
