Opossums live in the wild for 6 to 8 years. They move a lot & eat only food that benefits but if they become a pet of a hmans who feed them as much as they have, the poor animal become fat & their internal organs covered in fat can't function, & pets dies before they are 2 yaers old. People don't make them pets, let them live long & enjoy freedom as much as they deserve.
Even when they're growling, they'll rarely actually try to bite. As shown in this video. And even if they do bite, their low body temperature means they're not likely to have rabies.
@@guidofonlist4376 What an ignorant comment! They aren’t even remotely related. A rat is a rodent, the opossum is a marsupial. Opossums eat ticks. They are very useful little animals to have around. (Humans? Not so much!)
It’s a shame people can’t be better educated. It’s not a danger to your home. In fact, they eat mice and snakes. Don’t carry diseases. And are as clean as a cat.
On my hubbys account I LOVE POSSUMS, thank you for letting people know their harmless, also their very beneficial to your yards they eat a lot of ticks and clean up yucky stuff that you don’t want around. Always welcome in my yard -- I would have brought him a snack though
He wasn't doing anything wrong you scared him Possum are extremely beneficial for the environment they feed on about 5000 ticks per year they should be welcome every place ❤
It looks like its tail is injured so it may be more defensive since its in pain. Frostbite, fighjts with other animals and potentially tail getting stuck on things makes that happen
Thank you for relocating the female opossum. That's not the best way to grab one even if it's wild and angry. If you can approach it and can grab the base of the tail, near their butt, and place your hand under their chest and they will stop squirming around. They are also less inclined to bite, when you use this method. To remove them from a cage or trap, all you have to do is blow on them and they will move away.
I was thinking this too. I'm grateful that this person was mostly gentle with the opossum (though, they probably should've used both hands, as holding the opossum by its neck with one hand could be painful, and there doesnt have to be more unnecessary stress for the animal) im also glad the person who called to get the opossum removed didnt call an exterminator to kill them, but rather a wildlife relocator, but on the other hand still think relocating opossums is rather unnecessary, and causes unnecessary stress for the animal. I hope people stop bothering animals unless they pose a realistic threat, which most opossums do not, in fact they get rid of other animals and insects more likely to be pests.
Considering we are the dominant species and they are not, we can decide to do whatever the fuck we want. That was the home owners property and he wanted him gone. Tough shit.
That’s what happens when you aren’t the dominate species. Tough shit, but the owner wanted him gone and the remover took him. He didn’t kill him, it’s also not like the possum has property or belongings to lose by being relocated.
I was driving on the back roads one evening and I saw the weirdest thing. A tabby cat sitting on the edge of someone's lawn, with an opossum casually walking right next to him
Hi @Urban Jungle Wildlife Removal! :) ~ I am working on yt video project about Opossums and I was wondering if I could use some of your Opossum footage❓ (I would credit you of course!) 🙏
yep, thousands of them ticks get removed from your surroundings by them opossums every year. if only for that they should be protected as the ticks pose a greater danger to humans, propagating diseases like Lyme, in the long term than sharks or alligators do. 😽👌
@@AnastasiaBeaverhousn We did. We found an injured opossum in the garage. We nursed him but he couldn’t be released so we illegally adopted him. In less than a month he was licking our faces while we (tried) to sleep. He picked up on the little box right away and slept in our bed with us. The only thing keeping people from enjoying opossums as pets is a stupid law.
@@urbanjunglewildliferemoval Actual statistics are that 70% of all relocated wildlife dies a miserable death without food or a home and terrorized by the established animals. @Make Racists Afraid Again The survival rate on relocated opossums is much higher. They are opportunistic omnivores so they can eat most anything. They are also very opportunistic when it comes to shelter locations. There a lot of variation in the survival rates when you look at it by specoes. But you are right, many other animals do not relocate well at all, particularly squirrels.
They are tho, an opossum couldn't hurt you even if they tried and they never try. Absolutely harmless animal and very beneficial for everyone, they eat tons of pests like ticks and other parasites and don't carry diseases like rabies because their body temperature is too low to host them. There is literally no reason to kick them out, they are wonderful harmless animals that make great pets, the only shame is that they have such short lives.

Only a truly huge PoS would relocate a hurt animal and in such an aggressive manner. You most likely killed that opossum by relocating them for some money, shame on you.

I have a possum who comes to my back porch every night for dinner. He or she is very polite and a dainty eater.
The opossums who come to our back porch will often eat along side of the feral cats we feed.

They’re still hosts to other zoonotic diseases, it is still best to avoid the chances of being bitten.
Will you let one bite you, then report later to us what happened to you afterward, you know, the whole putting your money where your mouth is deal.

Urban opossums have a higher chance of getting hit by a car or mauled by a domestic dog though. People are not that nice to wild creatures.
Some people don't know till they get tick disease, or their cat/dog gets sick.
Well the homeowners didn’t know that. Don’t blame the guy
I’m surprised he put on the aggressive act. The ones around my house growl and hiss at the raccoons, but that’s the extent of it.

Opossums pose no danger to humans or other animals - so, it really was not necessary to remove him to another location.

Such undue stress on that animal. If he was left alone he probably would have moved along to another location by himself.
At least his business is ethical. He didn't kill the critter.
Im pretty sure people tend to call relocation when the animal *refuses* to move somewhere else
