I love watching you work! Your demos are always a welcome surprise and make my day a little happier. I've never seen a modeling spoon used flat. I'll be incorporating that technique in the future. An entire lesson on modeling spoon techniques would be AWESOME!!!!

My first leather project was 7 pairs of Mexican Bandolier Bullet Belt for my immediate family. After each pair made I learned something to improve the next pair. Tried to sign up for one of your classes at the Prescott Leather show but it was already full. I'll keep trying. Thanks for the tips in the videos you post.
I have started into leathercraft for 6 months only and each video I see makes me wanna try it. The details just draw me even further to it. It is mesmerizing. I FUCKING LOVE IT!

The title is pretty misleading. I have zero desire to enter competitions. However I stayed for the gandolf piece. HOLY WOW, it just kept getting better and better. Absolutely incredible work

Daniel, I am a knife maker and also make leather sheaths for my knives. I am always looking for ways to improve my leatherwork and that is how I found your videos. The first one I watched was the wolf challenge and wow, I was blown away. I decided right then that I wanted to learn how to carve leather and so I purchased from Weaver leather everything that you used in the video. I am about to start the wolf, but I have a question? When you case your leather and start you project, if it takes multiple days to complete do you rewet the project everytime your going to work on it and if so, in what manner do you do so?? I love your videos and your talent, I will be watching and learning as long as you continue making them!!
Thank you so much, we hope you enjoy leathercrafting! If the project takes multiple days, we recommend putting the unfinished leather in a plastic bag and put it on the fridge or a cool area overnight. If needed you can then re-wet the leather with a sponge when you are ready to get started again. Hope that helps!
What do you use on the back to stabilize your project while it is cased
You can use clear packing tape or painters tape and that will keep the leather from stretching as you tool.
While I appreciate the spirit in which the video was made it just seems a bit odd & a total miss regarding execution to be listening to Dan reference the hypothetical steampunk bag project while being presented footage of a Gandalf portrait!! There's absolutely no connection & seems poorly thought out as to continuity. He's quite clearly a very talented leather worker & the disconnect between the video & audio does him no favors.

Beautiful work and a very inspiring video. I highly recommend Daniel's RUclips channel, The Leatherverse if you want to learn some next-level techniques. Daniel, could you identify that large, flat backgrounding tool you were using around the border of the piece, at about 20:30? I need one like that, does Weaver sell it?
Just curious, but can you enter something like a set of armor at competitions? I've recently taken up making leather armor and love not only the process and results, but the possibilities of what can be done with design and artistry. Also, thank you for the tips because they are definitely going to be very helpful in many projects going forward.
How do I find one of these competitions? I'm curious where I rank.
Guilds and leather shows! Local guilds will sometimes host comp's. IFOLG has a huge one every year, and most of the Leather Crafters Journal shows have a comp of some sort. 🙂
