So cool to hear the history of that ‘42 and hear the great picking by Kenny and Teak. I was fortunate to find a ‘42 D-18 thirty years ago…from the original owner. Kenny has played it a couple of times over the years at Wintergrass. And he is right…there is something about that Ebony rod that brings out a real growl on the low E or an E chord! Well done guys!
Cool video Kenny and Thomas! Kenny, when you mentioned that ebony rod in the wartime guitars and the magic E tone, that's what drew me to my D18 that you found for me.
Awesome show guys; I truly enjoyed it! I actually ran into that Guitar when I was living in Texas, and I don’t know if there could ever be a cooler find.
Tutts son David still runs a pawn/music store in North wilkesboro' last time I was in there he had several old/vintage instruments. I had my eye on a d-28 I would loved to have had.
I have a friend who was looking for a case for his dad's guitar. He saw a man in an abandoned parking lot with items for sale and one of the items was a guitar case. He asked the man about the case. The man told him he wouldn't sale the case with out the guitar that was in it. The price was $50. So he talked him down to $40. The guitar was a very early Gibson L00. This wouldn't ever happen to me. Only problem with the guitar was the top had come loose in one spot which was repaired and I watched the repair. So unreal.
Actually Marty owns a D-28 that belonged to Lester. He traded a mandolin to Lester for the Martin. Years later Marty had Gene Parsons put an acoustic StringBender in it. Here is a video of Marty playing that guitar: ruclips.net/video/c4qLoSJkAT0/видео.html

The guitar gets played at 16:40
I’m surprised Marty Stewart didn’t gobble it up.
