I've watched a few videos now on removing this control arm and some on removing just the lower ball joint. It seems fairly easy and quick for a mechanic with a car hoisted up. So why do they charge SO much money to do this job? I'm getting quotes for labor only to replace a lower ball joint, with the car already up on the lift for an oil change, at around $149. Labor only - for one (1) ball joint so double it for doing both. Then they want $120 for the ball joint which they are paying around $30 for at most. Such a rip-off.
