As a console Rampart main, I feel like I could never move this quickly on controller. I can still pull some tech stuff off, but goddamn this is on a whole nother level 😱
also on console! Bind jump to LB, crouch to left stick, and extra character action to right stick. Superglides are quite easy (especially with console's lower frames). All the slide movements are possible with pick up wall on right stick, and it's just a really useful bind for regular rampart play too. Only thing is we can't tap strafe or turn down effects, but everything else works! (PS: Only thing is above binds means that it is down on dpad to change zoom of a variable optic. While annoying, this really only slows down the 1-2 as it is shorter range. It is fine for shiela, 2-4, and 4-8 optics) Good luck :)
@am a weeb Well if it doesn't work properly there's little else you can do unfortunately. Perhaps try having extra character action on one of the bympers/triggers?

Slide jumps, superglides, and even accurate crouch strafing is much easier (bc you aim with right stick and don't have to press down on it to crouch)

As a rampart main I must confess, we have a weakness, when you stand perfectly still while we are behind walls there’s nothing we can do. Please never do this
Also, we pesky rampart mains hate free loot, never give us good loot. If you drop items in front of a rampart main especially your shield, they won't be able to put down an amped cover so always do this when engaging a rampart.

Merchant you are the one who got me into rampart, I used to hate her kit and I watched u use it in ways I didn’t know you could and now I am really enjoying rampart and might become a main of her.
Before last week I’d only played rampart about 5 times, I was solo queuing and my random took Rev and I got given rampart. I got 14 kills and 4300 dmg. Her walls combined with a sentinel/longbow are broken 😂 I was headshotting people for 160-170 dmg
Rampart was the first legend I unlocked, all my friends made fun of me and so I never really got to play as her for very long. Hopefully with the new hype around her and her strength in arenas I’ll be able to play her more!

(Also one time I put a wall up in front of a door and locked my buddy out…. It was an accident but she died and wasn’t amused 😬😬)

These things take months and months of playing and learning to truly understand a character and all of their possibilities. As a Rampart main myself (1600 kills and a 3k badge, not the best I know, but I really do main her), I knew some of these tips by heart and learned a lot of new things that open up a world of possibility.

wow, I really thought that rampart was another look-over legend like wattson, but after seeing the 7000k dmg vid and this vid, I think she fits my play style like a glove. Great job, keep up the amazing content.
Merchant made a good point; make sure to pick up your cover and turrets before moving on. I had a game in skulltown where I placed cover and a turret on top of one of the skyscrapers, left, came BACK to skulltown and another team was sitting on my turret. I did not survive this but I leaned a valuable lesson.
When rampart first came out i hated playing her so much. I learned so much of her potential from watching your vids, and lets just say lately she's now in my top 3 legends to play. Loving the content man
I used to hate rampart until watching Merchant, she has become my second favourite character. I even win two third party squads in a single fight with her kits yesterday, using Merchant's tips.( I definitely won't win with other legend) It was so satisfied!!!

I’ve racked 1k kills on rampart and I always sucked with the turret from range cus I could literally never see targets and I would always watch your vids and be so confused how you could see them. And this vid made me feel very dumb… literally just lower fx. Anyways this guide is very cool to watch. Cus a lot of these tips I kinda picked up from playing her and some I didn’t even know like being able to keep your slide momentum when picking up walls after hitting them. Great vid
Hey Merchant, I love this guide and it'll give me things to think about to improve when I'm playing Rampart. One thing about the wall slide boost though is that your enemies will - for the most part - not see it because it's caused by lag. You lose momentum on your engine but on the server you're still sliding in most cases. It's something you can notice in the arenas spawn area as well, if you are sprinting into the barrier and slide right before it disappears, you will be still and suddenly boost forward. It's purely an effect that takes place on your system. The advantage though is that you have time for visual process to make a decision because you haven't actually come out of cover on the enemies' vision either. It's a mechanical lag compensation in a way! I know I probably wrote much more than I needed but I'm quite the enthusiast on these small things :)

Oh my God I think you're literally the first RUclipsr to tell me when playing Rampart you have to be not just fast dropping your shield but picking it up as well! And changing the key binding for it pure genius! so many times where I died trying to pick up my wall but for some reason the down button on my d-pad it doesn't respond fast so I have to click it a few times just to pick them all up and I end up standing there looking like a buffoon getting shot in the head

Back in season 7 u inspired me to play rampart like it’s just something about making a character like rampart as useful as a bloodhound that makes me feel good. For those who don’t know what I mean by “As useful as bloodhound” I mean bloodhound is a character that is useful in literally every fight so making a character that has abilities that’s not as useful in every fight/situation useful is soo good

I know this comment section is probably dead by now, but I have been recently setting up my binds so that I could optimize my rampart gameplay (I main her) and I was not able to find anywhere on the internet how to change the button to pick up her wall. I am gonna change it tomorrow, looking forward to your next vids!
I always find myself drawn to the "off meta" or like under loved/played characters in apex. Hence why Wattson and Rampart are my two highest played legends. and this was great.
I've mained rampart solely because I saw you play her, bought her as my first legend, tried her out and instantly fell in love with her. Easily the most dynamically challenging and fun legend to play
Great guide! Only thing I would add is that people tend to ignore amped walls if nobody is visibly standing behind them. If you hear a team coming... crouch behind your wall, when they are close, stand up and laser them!
Amazing guide! Just to add some more advanced Shiela tips, combining the "jump-placement" strategy with the walls and Shiela by jump placing them on top of crates, and the like, you can completely avoid grenades and hop on and off Shiela with almost no risk to yourself. Placing a Shiela indoors in a corner (to maximize firing angle) you can again completely avoid grenades by placing an amped wall directly against the back of Shiela which also allows you to instantly pop behind cover when hopping off. Also to block damage with walls without obscuring your vision, you can place them in a triangle formation with a slight gap and place the barrel of Shiela in that gap. I got more tips, but these are probably the most useful and easy to execute.
Rampart was my main when she came out I stopped using her cause i thought All she could do was stay in one place this helped me get my first 2k badge after a couple games of playing rampart!!! Thank you!
8:57 yeah, yeah, im familiar with this, used to play an old game, it's been sunset by now, it was called GiTS: First Assault Online, and there was a character in that game called Maven, her main ability was a thermoptic barrier, basically a two-way mirror that you place down, and i used her barriers in the same way. i'd place it down, exploiting the fact that people tended to shoot it, find out there's nobody behind it, and then i'd ambush them from another angle. So, yeah that's familiar the whole feinting thing with the walls.
A small novice tip that is always hold your interact button as Sheila is building if you want to mount it ASAP, this will allow you to instantly mount Sheila when available.
I really hope to see more updated Legend guides from content creators. A lot of them try to get it out in time with to meet the spike in player interest but the next few seasons buffs/nerfs usually defines the Legends' abilities and strategies surrounding them.

I stopped playing at season 5 and once i came back in season 8, I unlocked rampart because her kit sounded really good to me, to this day I still main her.

This is perfect timing for me, I just started using rampart because she’s surprisingly fun when u don’t use her to just camp. I was playing arenas and put up a wall after peaking a corner so when I got pushed, it soaked up some damage even though it didn’t finish building and I was able to win the gun fight because I didn’t take that damage!
Me and a friend were messing around in training and we were trying out a wall jump off a small wall with a rampart wall on it. Don't know if it could ever be used in actual games but it was fun to try.
I have wanted to main rampart for a whilde now, but my friends hate that i play her. Hope that I learned some tricks so that i can play her and acually be of good use. Thanks for the guide TGM
I have an idea for the buff for the mid patch. (More of a rework) add two things to the passive. 1) a sort of low profile but only for her ( no one else will have it) to make it be the her feet does the same amount of damage as a body shot. And 2) have a faster vault and have a boost with the vault.(give more boost when doing the super glide). And have an portable ult with shield for her front of her body( not her feet and head and in back of her) but increase the recoil for each step she takes and she will be walking supperr slow. With also having the feature of staying put (like her ult now). Tell me if it’s a good idea

Rampart was my main when she came out I stopped using her cause i thought All she could do was stay in one place this helped me get my first 2k badge after a couple games of playing rampart!!! Thank you!

8:57 yeah, yeah, im familiar with this, used to play an old game, it's been sunset by now, it was called GiTS: First Assault Online, and there was a character in that game called Maven, her main ability was a thermoptic barrier, basically a two-way mirror that you place down, and i used her barriers in the same way. i'd place it down, exploiting the fact that people tended to shoot it, find out there's nobody behind it, and then i'd ambush them from another angle. So, yeah that's familiar the whole feinting thing with the walls.
A small novice tip that is always hold your interact button as Sheila is building if you want to mount it ASAP, this will allow you to instantly mount Sheila when available.

I really hope to see more updated Legend guides from content creators. A lot of them try to get it out in time with to meet the spike in player interest but the next few seasons buffs/nerfs usually defines the Legends' abilities and strategies surrounding them.

I stopped playing at season 5 and once i came back in season 8, I unlocked rampart because her kit sounded really good to me, to this day I still main her.

This is perfect timing for me, I just started using rampart because she’s surprisingly fun when u don’t use her to just camp. I was playing arenas and put up a wall after peaking a corner so when I got pushed, it soaked up some damage even though it didn’t finish building and I was able to win the gun fight because I didn’t take that damage!
Me and a friend were messing around in training and we were trying out a wall jump off a small wall with a rampart wall on it.
Don't know if it could ever be used in actual games but it was fun to try.

I have an idea for the buff for the mid patch. (More of a rework) add two things to the passive. 1) a sort of low profile but only for her ( no one else will have it) to make it be the her feet does the same amount of damage as a body shot. And 2) have a faster vault and have a boost with the vault.(give more boost when doing the super glide). And have an portable ult with shield for her front of her body( not her feet and head and in back of her) but increase the recoil for each step she takes and she will be walking supperr slow. With also having the feature of staying put (like her ult now).
