After Japan was defeated in WW2, the Korean people organized People's Committees all over the peninsula. This was People's Republic of Korea. But the US wanted to divide the peninsula because of the Cold War, which the Korean people werent interested in. The US did it anyways, and they came into the south, below the 38th parallel, and disbanded the People's Committees. The People's Committees in the North organized into the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, which is the present state in the northern portion of the peninsula.
