My son in seeing this, in the context of "Thales Theorem".. How does this, relate to Thales?
Thales is the one who proposed this theorem. Like how Pythagoras proposed the Pythagorean Theorem.

If all you know is that AD is Equal it DB and AE is equal to EC then how do you figure out if ED is parallel to CB
that is a given in the problem... It's telling you they are parallel... if that fact was not confirmed you would not be able to move any further with the problem as you wouldn't know that the angles are equal...
