    2:45 At the most basic level, isn’t the general rule of thumb for finding the basic chord to play with the melody is to play the basic triad chord that carries the melodic note played on the down beats?
    Or (explained in a different way that is much easier to translate into practice and to 700% easier according to my analysis and count of the number of mental steps one has to perform to find the next chord to go with the melody)…Play the melodic note on the next down beat as notes 1, 3, or 5 of the basic chord?
    For example…
    UUUUMU3U5
    UU1UMU5UU
    1U3UMUUUU
    M=melodic note on next down beat
    1=root note of basic chord
    3=2nd note of the basic chord
    5=3rd note of the basic chord

      Yea bro…I was hoping he would start with a very basic progression. No 7th chords.
      But still good.

    I think many non-native English speakers will have the same question, given that even RUclips automatic subtitles don't have the answer: what does he say after "one tip to be able to this is to understand your ..."?

      @@gianluke one tip to be able to do this is to understand your tonic solfas in and out, then you should find it easier to play your melodies...

      You are not alone, I had piano lessons when I was 6 years old up to year 10 in school. Always played from sheet music and played exams, but never was intervals, chords, progressions and inversions explained to me in a way I can incorporate them in my playing. It was monkey see monkey do for me and now I am stuck in that and can only play if the notes are infront of me. So I play the left hand melody from the sheets (these days) and only the chords in the left hand. I don't play both hands from sheet music any more, it's easier this way, but some people can sit infront of a piano and just play, and not chop sticks, they can really play beautiful music, but I can't press a note if I haven't got sheet music infront of me, I can just not hear the melody and know where it's suppose to be on the piano....this after 40 years of playing piano. So sad, but perhaps piano playing is not my talent and I need to work harder than the others just to be able to do something. I don't know, but I feel your pain. I try to study now chords and progressions and and and, just to see if I can overcome this optical.
