Love this!!!! I surfed a little bit in my 20's and then took a 20 year break basically. Now I'm back living on the northern California coast in my later 40's and I'm taking up surfing again. It's like learning all over again. Thank you for the stoke my friend!

    Your honesty is refreshing.
I started surfing in my mid-thirties and experienced very slow progress in the first few years.
Surfing is the only sport I enjoy, regardless of how bad I am at it!
Keep up the great vids, man.
    Cheers, from West Oz

I feel like even though you started surfing later in life in a way it might be better and more fun cause you truly get to soak in the fun.
I started when I was a kid and it was so much fun like every wave was a blast but I was young and dumb and everything was really fun. As an adult when you find things that bring you joy I feel you truly just embrace that feeling appreciate it and soak it all in, whereas a kid you take it for granted and everything just kinda flies by fast.

@@tobyneo10101 it definitely wouldn’t have hurt me if I started earlier. But yeah in my early 30’s I just had a baby so there was no time to surf. 40’s my kid was older and I felt ok leaving to surf a few days a week.
Also knowing I’m not getting younger I was very determined to learn to surf in a short period of time.

@@surfininmy40s yeah I mean now it’s cool and I realize how special and awesome it is to just ride a wave but I definitely took that feeling for granted when I was a kid. So it’s got to be kinda awesome getting to experience that feeling of progression in surfing but with maturity.

Hey bro, love the channel. 37 here. Started at 34. Wondering how long it took you to jump down to the seaside from the mid? I’ve been frothing on the seaside and beyond 6’8 and am thinking of getting the regular seaside. Also looks like a great point break you have! Cheers from Jersey in the Channel Islands, u.k.

Hello, what size Seaside do you feel is your go to all around? I see you’ve tried several dimensions. I’m 55 (5’9” & 175) hoping to start again after 10 years off. I’d consider myself a mediocre intermediate, but always love the ocean. \m/

@@familypalencia if you can surf a shorter board maybe go with the 5’9 or 5’10 seaside.. after 10 yrs off though you might want to try a seaside and beyond and go with the 6’8 to 6’10 range. @@surfininmy40s Thank you for the advice! I didn't know about the Seaside and Beyond. Until I watched your videos (your paddling, entry, and surfing look so effortless and fun), I wouldn't have thought that boards by Machado would be a possibility. Maybe I've seen that Rob can ride anything and make it look amazing with flow, including perhaps an ironing board lol. I really like his riding style and am glad that you're validating his designs for Joe every day. I'll start looking (on the second market :) for likely both a 5'10 and 6'8ish"!
