I don't think Renna *had* to beat Egwene up when she couldn't touch the pitcher. I think that was just her rage and fury that she thought she had "tamed" her with the demonstration of their link through the a'dam. But she clearly hadn't, so she took her temper out on Egwene.
The writing in this episode was so good - the moment of relief at the end when Egwene finally gives in is awful because we shouldn't feel happy that she has been broken, and yet its just such a relief. What a performance from the both of them.
that's such a heartbreaking moment, at that point there's already been so much suffering and torture you're literally begging for Egwene to spare herself more pain, that you know its okay if she gives up to pouring that water because at least its keeping her alive.
If you need the reminder we met Maigan the Blue Ajah sitter in episode six of season one. She told Moiraine she was going west to check out rumors of ships.
Great reaction! The Blue Sitter in the kennels is the same one that spoke to Moraine in season 1. She's been there almost a year by now, and is definitely resigned to her fate. Her room had furniture and such, probably cause she's a "good Damane" bleh.
@@samanthaa.6055 these kennels were exactly like I pictured them somehow. I just wasn't expecting the horrifying screams that constantly filled the background. I figured it'd have a lot more traffic from people checking damane in and out of use.
Great catch on the furniture. I was actually positing Egwene would get an upgrade (for being a good damane, *puke*} but I didn’t notice Maigan had a bed until you mentioned it.
I don't think I can fully rewatch this amazing episode but I am really looking forward to all the non-reader reactions to this episode. It was amazing and Egwene's actress Madeleine Madden brought her absolute A game for this performance. I struggle with these chapters on every re-read so this was perfect in my opinion. I really want to know what you all think about this.
I was too emotional after the first watch. I wanted to watch it again, but I don't think I'm emotionally ready for it. I expected this to happen, but seeing on screen with such amazing acting from Madeline got me.
I was morbidly excited for this episode as a book reader and figured it wouldn't affect me too much cause I know what happens after, but oof, this episode shook me pretty hard. It left a mark on me like when I first read The Great Hunt.
I love all the theorizing y'all do! I knew that Egwene's story this season would be difficult to see realized on screen, so I've been bracing myself for it, I can't imagine actually *seeing* all of that go down as viscerally as it did without knowing it was coming and being able to brace yourself for it first... man... Shout out to you two and all non-book fans for getting through this episode!!! It's definitely one of the tough ones in this series! I am so glad the show did it so well, even though it hurt my heart to see. Every time I see that sequence where Ryma is fighting the Damane and Sul'dam and Egwene is getting told "your world is the size of this cup... poor the water" I cannot help but cry all over again. And I'm right there with you on wanting to see Mat pop off! He's by far my favorite character from the books, so I'm waiting with baited breath (even though, admittedly, he's just kind of "there" for the first two and half books, not much happens, the dagger in book one, and a certain moment in book two, that we haven't gotten to yet so I won't spoil!)
@15:10 "Jealous much?" Exactly! Now go back and watch Selene/Lanfer and Rand interact in previous episodes. When Rand mentions that he has feelings for another you can see her with a slight clench of hew jaw or an uncomfortable shifting or turning away her eyes. It is very small but the signs have been there since we first met her as Selene the Innkeeper!
Ahhhhh. I’m so excited that you both are going to be on the Dusty Wheel! One thing about Rand’s power - don’t forget that using the power will drive him insane so he needs to be kind of careful in his use of it if he wants to be able to continue to fight.
Renna doesn't want to harm the damane as a dog owner wouldn't like to hurt their dog. She pets Egwene in a similar way as well. Any merci shown to damane is given seeing them as an animal that shouldn't be hurt unnecessarily.
this season is such a massive improvement over the first. yeah its a complete re-interpretation of the books but i feel the spirit is there now, it feels like wheel of time in a lot of ways. Legit excited for the last 2 episodes and especially season 3. Season should be most of book 4 which is the best book IMO and where the series really becomes great.
That’s two mostly solid episodes. This is the best so far and I see them weaving back to the same plots from the books including one of my favorites: the eventual meeting of Rand and Siuan that happened in Shienar in Book 1 or 2. Cat crosses the Courtyard, baby!
Love your videos. If you read books 1-2 please think about doing it in the same format as NerdyNightly, which is to split the book into 5 sections, 1 per week, and do a live discussion on each.
Hey first of all thank you for the super chat! ❤️🙏🏿 And secondly thank you for the suggestion as well! We're not too sure but the live stream as of right now since our schedules are usually really packed with all the content we have to cover? But we definitely do intend on covering them in some way whether it be a recap or a discussion going over notes etc. We like the 5 section idea!
I understand your points about egwene logically should have made herself submit a bit earlier so she can bide her time to escape later, but something I think you're missing is that in order to discover how to escape, you need to push the limits so you can learn what exactly you're able to do and what your limitations are.
Found you through the Dusty Wheel, glad I did. Watching a couple of reacts just first thoughts of things I love: - Y'all are *on point* picking up the little details the slide into conversations, little one-off comments that mean so much to us book readers and you aren't missing them, it's great! And then taking those little comments and connecting them to all the other pieces we get, makes my theorizer brain happy :) - You are picking up in the characters natures/personalities so well. It's hard for me to judge if the show is giving enough info to characterize them since I already have a fully formed picture in my mind, and I love that it's coming through. - Your comments are super insightful from what you've seen, it's great. And I absolutely love the long discussions really digging into the nuances of everything. For example your notice of Ryma attacking the sul'dam rather than the damane, and the effect of her Warder bond on Basan's death. Spoiler free comments: - Hope for Egwene: notice her body language after she realizes a Blue Sitter (Maigan from S1E6) is in the cell next to her. That looks like a woman who had a failure, but is even more resolved now than ever. - To give an Aes Sedai answer to your question about "can sul'dam channel?" - the only thing the show has shown us is that the a'dam is a ter'angreal, and in S2E3 we learned that some ter'angreal require a female channeller to activate, while others do not (and who knows if there are male activated ter'angreal). So all we can infer at this point is: who knows. - As far as sul'dam - damane pairing, from what I've seen it seems like it could either be one sul'dam to one damane, or possibly one sul'dam to many damane. But it doesn't look like there's any evidence for multiple sul'dam to a single damane. It'd be an interesting exercise to go through all the footage to see if at least out and about if one damane always has the same suldam with them (I might do this). - I like your theory(s) about sul'dam face markings. I kind totally see Renna's portrayal as a newer less experienced sul'dam. Not sure about the face paint - is it an "always on" thing when you have a trained damane, or is it a "put the paint on when you go out" thing? Either way, the paint is significant in some way to the Seanchan, we've already seen their culture puts a lot of significance on outwards appearances and adorning their bodies in certain ways (Suroth's/Turok's nails for example). It's pretty clear they wear their status/rank on their bodies directly. - Liandrin: one of the great things about the show is that she's much more fleshed out as a character (she's pretty one-note in the books). It allows all of us (book readers and watcher only) to theorize about what's coming her way! I'm personally hoping for a redemption arc, but who know. Verin (one of my favorite Aes Sedia) is totally on her trail. And now something to theorize about: We know the Three Oaths the Aes Sedai swear are bound by magic, we see this in practice in S1E6 when Moiraine has to swear another oath using a rod (seems to be yet another ter'angreal). How do you thing oaths to the Dark One work? Are they similarly bound by magic, maybe the same rod, another oath rod, or something else entirely? Lanfear seems to imply as much this episode. Speaking of Darkfriends, Liandrin has broken her oaths. How was that done? Can the same rod be used to magically break an oath or is this some other sort of magic used originating from the Dark One or Forsaken? If so, can an oath the Dark One be broken after all, opening up to redemption from the Shadow? Q: What Ajah do you think Egwene would pick based on what you've seen?
The part about Mat's Charisma stat reminded me that back in 2001, WotC produced a The Wheel of Time: The Roleplaying Game that runs on the 3.0 d20 system. Unsurprisingly, Mat is a Rogue with a high Charisma Score and a lot of Feats and bonuses that dig into how his character slowly develops in the books (and will also likely happen in the show).
It's always difficult in the discussions to hear you asking questions, to know the answer, but I'm afraid of Cait vaporizing me. So I guess we'll all just have to keep watching the series
nynaeve's problem is not that she is too powerful. rand is even more powerful than her and much much more scared of himself but he's better at control and channeling at will already and he's not been getting any training unlike nynaeve. the reason for her problem is that she's just not good at surrendering and that's what she needs to do to channel. for men it is the opposite, you have to tame it, make it surrender to yourself rather than surrendering yourself to it, so the approach is actually completely different. these things are already described in the show but i don't know how clear it's been to show-only audience. however, this yellow sister was able to relate to nynaeve much better than anyone else so far, even liandrin who just made her angry to force her to channel, the yellow sister made her think about channeling like how she would think about healing a patient. that is something nynaeve understands quite well as a wisdom and someone who is especially into healing people. but this being her first time at channeling at will, she did not have very good control on it, so she got the yellow sister captured basically. 😬
Yeh in one of the Season 1 Origins they mention the difference between men and women and how they channelk, about women surrendering and men dominating. So when Logain says Rand needs to surrender to it that's just false information.. He should have said he should sieze it, take it. But you are right that since Nynaeve struggle to embrace the source and start to channel, she must surrender to it to guide it, which is what she struggles to do and why she cannot get access to her magic. It is however interesting that when she is furious or desperate she sieze the Power, but she should instead surrender.
The books explain that when she gets angry she forgets about trying to surrender and just does it, so it is a sort of bypass technique. The key to bypass her block is for her to forget about trying to surrender, anger is just one approach she discovered after joining the tower, but just wanting to help is the approach she was using when she was still Wisdom in Two Rivers. Of course, the best solution is to just learn to consciously surrender
@@FerdawoonLogain doesn't tell Rand he has to surrender; he tells him that's what Rand has been doing. Logain tells him he has to grab it-make it his. That's why Rand channeled so very strongly that time.
@@Ferdawoon I think the phrasing of that line from Logain was bad, but he was actually telling Rand you need to *stop* surrendering to it and instead you need to take it. It's just however they phrased the line it made it sort of sound like he was saying the opposite, it was a weird choice
No spoilers: the Seanchan accent in the books is like a Texan drawl, most people who meet them struggle to understand their slow talking drawl. Seeing their cruelty in action and hearing them speak with american accents makes the slave holding society of theirs hit harder than just being told about their accent while reading. And a stronger commentary on past us history. (time is a wheel after all)
@@Matthewvhaynes probably a smart setting to keep on, no worries! I can't wait for your discussion with Inkeeper Hatch! Matt is a lot of fun to discuss WoT with.
36:57 I’d definitely say Renna consciously believes this is true about herself-I kind of view it as different slave master dynamics. Regardless of if you want to hurt someone like this, you’re still participating in this dynamic willingly, even eagerly with Renna.
(Fellow show-only fan, so if any of my speculations happen to be correct, i promise I'm not trying to spoil, just making guesses!) I definitely agree with Matt on the Sul'dam having a sort of "initiation" once they break and train their one Damane and then they get the face markings (which i thought was a tattoo, which would make it more of a permanent promotion, not just when they go to battle) And i also think that maybe the Demane only have the mouth plug thing when they go to battle, so maybe they can speak when not in battle? Obviously not as equals, but basic speech like the Blue Sitter does. I could be wrong, though. Also i feel your are being VERY generous to Renna 😅 i feel that her "kindness" is more just manipulation to try to get Egwene to give in more easily and make her job easier. Yes, she does get happy when they connect through channeling, but that's because she is getting power and using Egwene as she is "supposed" to be used. Then when Egwene still fails to touch the cup, she loses her temper and beats Egwene with no remorse, just frustration that her trainee is making her life difficult, not because she cares for her in any way, because as she has said, she doesn't see her as a person. What really showed her true colors was when she dumped out the water in the end. Her face, her body language, it just spoke volumes about how she views Egwene. "Good girl," like an animal.
Hey thanks for sharing your thoughts and comments here! I definitely see what you're saying towards the second half of your comment. I might just be too nice and seeing the good in people LOL. But a few others share the same perspective as you so you're definitely probably on the money to be honest when it comes to Renna 🤣. By the way that entire scene just really heartbreaking to see, especially maybe giving egwene a false sense of hope? That maybe she can actually be nice with her? And then towards the end when she just throws the water away I guess me as a fan who might have fell for her trick and manipulation felt the hurt the same way egwene felt the hurt 😭
@@Matthewvhaynes thanks for responding! 🤗 I totally get it, I am the sort of person who normally gives people a ton of slack/benefit of the doubt as well! I thought the same as you early on until later on when she started to snap and beat Egwene and dump out the cup. I think the reason why it's possible to see her as not completely evil/cruel is because I think she 100% believes in the worldview of her people. She genuinely thinks what she's doing is what's best for Egwene, because they view Channelers as dangerous, volatile people who are out of control without a Sul'dam to corral and direct them. So in a way, she isn't committing these horrors because she hates Egwene, she just believes that this is what must be done, because Egwene isn't a person, she is Demane. Which is almost the worst part of the whole thing, the way she casually dismissed Egwene of even being a woman. Her words are just as deadly as the pain of the collar and the beatings. 😞 Poor Egwene, I hope she gets out of there soon!
@17:50 Siuans attack-needles It is similar or the same as what Moiraine tried to use against Ishamael in S1 Ep8 but the way it's around her head like that.. So the title of the seventh book of the series is called "A Crown of Swords" and I cannot help thinking it's a bit of a nod how Siuan literally gets what looks like a crown of sharp slices of air!
Don't know if you caught it but the blue sitter in the room next to Egwene was the blue sitter from season 1 that was talking to Moiraine in the bath house.
1:25 Haha 😄 the internet! Domy Mommy sucked the life out of him. Good to have some levity with how heavy this episode was. Great acting for all in the show. Love thay you guys are enjoying it
We've seen the blue sitter in season 1 episode 5 or 6. She gave Moiraine some orders to stay in the tower, which is why Moiraine wanted Siuan to expel her so she wouldn't have to follow those orders. She was investigating the "foreign ships off the western shore" (paraphrasing), and we can see where that investigation led her here.
This episode messed me up more than when i read it in the books. All the screaming that was in the background throughout the episode set a gnarly atmosphere but then you realize that all the screaming wasnt from the pain and torture. Egwene joins in the screaming because her soul was broken. She learned to love her torturer. The psychosis and despair of that dropped some heavy anxiety on my mind. I had to have a couple drinks after this episode hehe.
I love listening to your fascinating discussions! (And I didn't near any problematic background noise - don't fret!) Thank you so much for all the care and attention you give to your videos, week in and week out ❤
about the dream with rand, ishamael, lanfear.... in any case rand knew that it was a plan/manipulation tactic to lure him to falme. he says as much to mat, that they need to save egwene but at the same time it is a trap. and mat says they will go in any case. so rand knows they are both trying to manipulate each other lol. and so does lanfear and she says as much at the beginning of the episode, asking him what his tactic will be with her...
I approve Matthew over-analysis rambles. I enjoy these videos and am glad you two are fans of the show. Hope you both enjoy the last 2 episodes of S2 and don't forget the Last Battle is coming.
They do mention they called them the kennels. I look at it like some Sul'dam they treat their Damane like their favorite rifle on the battlefield, Rena seems more like she is treating Eguene like her favorite military working dog. Great acting for both actresses and very emotional
Mat is easy my favorite character in books especially later on, but in show he isnt up the task so far, lets hope they fix it. But I have to admit that yellow ajah doing sul'dam/damane rubik's cube thing was awesome
from a non-book reader, I feel like that’s why he’s like this early on. I like how low they’re starting with him, i think it’ll make the payoff sweeter
@@4c_apertureyou're pretty much right. Mat was rough to enjoy sometimes in the first few books. All his good qualities are there, he's just abit of a moaning dick. Same as Rand.
In season one moraine calls Loial a builder... And I'm pretty sure in the extra content which I think you guys mentioned that you watched... it mentions that the ogier helped build the White Tower.... So that's why he gets called builder because his people helped build an extremely extremely important building in their society, basically. I don't think Moraine was saying that literally Loial, himself, built something... But his ancestors did. And so he also carries that title due to his heritage.
Here, NO SPECIFIC SPOILERS but enough Old Tongue lore to clarify the relationship, and I will point to other scenes so you can draw conclusions from them: Sul'dam means leash holder, damane means leashed, marath'damane (a term Suroth used in the prior episode) means 'one who must be leashed'. The Seanchan believe that channeling the one power is inherently dangerous and causes megalomania. The only safe channeler is one who has been broken and turned into a tool of their empire. You saw the damane in the third episode pointing out women who had the spark and could learn to channel so they could be ripped away from their families and collared. This is by far not the only form of slavery the Seanchan are comfortable with. Suroth gloated that she had an Ogier da'covale, another kind of slave. There is really nothing much redeeming about them.
Season 1 Episode 6 around the 27 minute mark - the Blue Sitter that broke sooner than Egwene had a conversation with Moiraine in the baths and at 27:41 she makes a comment that when Ryma showed Nynaeve the rings, I figured it would be her. It looked like the other 2 rings were green ajah. Blue ajah is political, green ajah is the battle ajah (although mostly known for having sex with their warders even in the books) and yellow ajah are healers (during the bath scene, Moiraine was given a yellow sprig of something to visit the yellow ajah which is the next scene). As a gamer, I see 1 green could be dps, 1 green could be tank, 1 yellow would be the healer, and 1 blue is... well, I guess bossy. Then again, I may have spotted the wrong colors on the rings

Moiraine said she can't feel the source. What you probably remember about feeling the source, but not being able to touch it was what Liandrin said to Nynaeve when she shielded her in 2x1.
True yet tho no ones been shielded so heavily by a forsaken in thousands of years. She might not know the difference. Plus if she was stilled, she's taking it better than anyone else.
Damane (duh-mah-neh) Domani (doh-mah-nee) Oh Robert Jordan messing with us all still with stuff like this throughout the series. They are both nouns with very different meanings, I'll let the show fill you in on the meaning of the former if someone doesn't spoil you on it first. The latter is a word to describe a group of people from a specific place like the words Californian or New Yorker.
Yes, Moiraine mentioned Domani horses (horses from Arad Doman) in ep 201 as being worth about 5 marks. I've also heard Damane said as "dah-mah-neh" - keeping the "a" sound the same through the whole word. Bottom line is to avoid "oh" or "ee" vowel sounds when saying "Damane" to prevent confusion!
I don't care what everyone everywhere says, I correct it every time in my head to "dah-MAYNE". Similarly, Egwene will always rhyme with "queen" (not Elayne) and Semirhage will always rhyme with "hemorrhage." I will not submit to pronunciation guides nor audiobooks :)
I think it is a 1:1 relationship too but I suspect that Ranna(?) has killed others. It's giving me Handmaids Tsle vibe. I think she is also in training and breaking all these women as she goes
One of you is right about sul'dam/damane ... sort of... I won't say which. Though, who knows what might have been changed in the show from what it was in the books. Renna... not Ranna 😅 You guys have some interesting theories that only time will tell if they right or not. I'd be amused to see D&D stats for all the characters... or a WoT RPG game. (I know an old rpg exists... the cousin of a college friend had it... wish I had a copy). They had new classes in that game... but if I had to give them classes... I shouldn't or it might be spoilers. (started and erased them) I don't remember what Ishmael said when he did it to Moiraine. Not sure if Ishy was there or he was created but Lanfear... it could go either way.. Though, in the books NO ONE ever called him Ishy. Calling Ishmael Ishy is a fan thing.... so Lanfear calling him "Ishy dear" was a nod to the fans. Not sure if she'd call him that to his face though. 🤔 The Egwene stuff is pretty much right from the books... I knew it was going to happen, but still brutal to watch... 😭 Liandrin... no clue what will happen with her...they gave her a backstory and motivations and I have a feeling her story overall might change quite a bit from what was in the books. I'm glad Mat was in the episode... his story needs to pick up soon. 😅 Even book readers are wondering about Min's vision...
The books are so different in many ways that they are hard to compare. Some changes are totally fine or even better than the books, while other changes make no sense at all to me. The biggest problem I have is with the metaphysics of the One Power. In the books the metaphysics is very clear and almost scientific in character (apparently Robert Jordan had studied physics), while in the show the way it works seems far less coherent, so I have a lot of confusion there. I have to say though that this season is much less confusing than the first one.
I feel like Liandrin really just wanted her son for herself to have something to focus on, and not so much for the love of her son. If she really loved her son, she would’ve let him die without pain instead of keeping him alive as an invalid.
@@Matthewvhaynesyep I totally agree, especially she emphasized on it as a "curse" at being an Aes Sedai, ageing too slowly that they loose everyone they care for. Letting go is hard with this in mind

Surprisingly my adaptive noise cancellation in my software did a great job blocking some of it out, but my wife also edited a bunch ofnitnout from the video 😄
IMO the Seanchan are the worst and most terrifying villains in the series. The idea behind them is something akin to colonialism and slavery, which makes them more evil from a certain perspective.
@@Lightning_Lance Correct: The collars and wrist bands enable converting a Marth'Damane into a captive, controlled, enslaved Damane, and then keeping her in that status indefinitely.
Good insight on Egwene… They made it just as messed up as it is in the books, and I’d argue that the show portrays it better. That was hard to watch. The Seanchan are the worst >:(
I'm hoping Nynaeve can break that SICK collar or the captured blue Ajah left some sort of failsafe for someone more powerful that her!! Brutal....i needs it GONE from this world😮
The collar experience was done amazingly. Believe it or not in the books Its described as being much worse (mentally and physically) than it’s shown. One of the darkest fates in fantasy
I think in the books we hear about a lot of the torture second hand as she tells Min and focus on the psychological pain of resisting being broken and losing yourself. I've read several comments saying the show does it better, but I am with you. The bare bones given in the books allows us to fill in the horror as vividly as our own imagination allows. I'm so glad Matthew picked up on the "intent" aspect, I didn't know how it would be conveyed visually. The book describes the extent to which you must convince yourself you will NEVER EVER EVER use the item as a weapon, it can't just be a superficial submission.
Those who can enjoy the show call the extreme haters (mostly the disingenuous ones) Bookcloaks. But I've also seen those people call those that like the show and defend it Rafefriends (like Darkfriend) because they think Rafe Judkins is the Dark One.
This is like 4 episodes in a row that have i think been the best episode in the series. Season two is a ROLLING now they need to bring it home in a big way with the final 2 but the set up is there. This episode did such a good job of conveying how terrible the seanchan are. The pitcher scenes were off page in the book and seeing play out is super painful. Difficult but excellent episode.

that's such a heartbreaking moment, at that point there's already been so much suffering and torture you're literally begging for Egwene to spare herself more pain, that you know its okay if she gives up to pouring that water because at least its keeping her alive.
egwene was already teetering on being my favourite character but these last 2 episode just solidified it for me
If you need the reminder we met Maigan the Blue Ajah sitter in episode six of season one. She told Moiraine she was going west to check out rumors of ships.
Mhm! We remember her
Great reaction! The Blue Sitter in the kennels is the same one that spoke to Moraine in season 1. She's been there almost a year by now, and is definitely resigned to her fate. Her room had furniture and such, probably cause she's a "good Damane" bleh.
I always pictured the kennels like cages. Her rooms looked about the same as the novice quarters at the white tower
Sure, Renna doesn’t want to hurt Egwene physically. She just wants her to be a good, obedient dog so she doesn’t have to.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts!! I cant wait ro get more into this world
@15:10 "Jealous much?"
Exactly!
37:19 Renna is trying to prove she can train her “dog” with kindness, but ran into steel with Egwene, so that broke Renna’s training plans.
Renna doesn't want to harm the damane as a dog owner wouldn't like to hurt their dog. She pets Egwene in a similar way as well. Any merci shown to damane is given seeing them as an animal that shouldn't be hurt unnecessarily.
Yes. She does not see Egwene as a person. She is perhaps less cruel than most in her culture, but still brainwashed.
The scenes with Egwene were quite close to the book.
So sad 😭
this season is such a massive improvement over the first. yeah its a complete re-interpretation of the books but i feel the spirit is there now, it feels like wheel of time in a lot of ways.
Watching a couple of reacts just first thoughts of things I love:
- Y'all are *on point* picking up the little details the slide into conversations, little one-off comments that mean so much to us book readers and you aren't missing them, it's great! And then taking those little comments and connecting them to all the other pieces we get, makes my theorizer brain happy :)
- You are picking up in the characters natures/personalities so well.
Spoiler free comments:
- Hope for Egwene: notice her body language after she realizes a Blue Sitter (Maigan from S1E6) is in the cell next to her.
And now something to theorize about:
We know the Three Oaths the Aes Sedai swear are bound by magic, we see this in practice in S1E6 when Moiraine has to swear another oath using a rod (seems to be yet another ter'angreal).
I knew hed be a rogue! 🤣
I love hearing your theorizing! The rambles are what we're here for ;) Looking forward to seeing you guys on the Dusty Wheel!
I love knowing which of you is right and NOT SAYING IT because I don’t spoil people lol

"I feel like Mat is about to pop off at some point"
Indeed.
nynaeve's problem is not that she is too powerful. rand is even more powerful than her and much much more scared of himself but he's better at control and channeling at will already and he's not been getting any training unlike nynaeve. the reason for her problem is that she's just not good at surrendering and that's what she needs to do to channel. for men it is the opposite, you have to tame it, make it surrender to yourself rather than surrendering yourself to it, so the approach is actually completely different. these things are already described in the show but i don't know how clear it's been to show-only audience. however, this yellow sister was able to relate to nynaeve much better than anyone else so far, even liandrin who just made her angry to force her to channel, the yellow sister made her think about channeling like how she would think about healing a patient. that is something nynaeve understands quite well as a wisdom and someone who is especially into healing people. but this being her first time at channeling at will, she did not have very good control on it, so she got the yellow sister captured basically.
@@Ferdawoon logain said stop surrendering to take it
@@FerdawoonLogain doesn't tell Rand he has to surrender; he tells him that's what Rand has been doing.
(time is a wheel after all)
i shall let this stand, this is good :)

@@Matthewvhaynes that may be the character's name but ill forever call her baby damane; she's so tiny and just so sad.
36:57 I’d definitely say Renna consciously believes this is true about herself-I kind of view it as different slave master dynamics. Regardless of if you want to hurt someone like this, you’re still participating in this dynamic willingly, even eagerly with Renna.
"Mat is a lot more powerful than they let on" is the understatement of the year. 🎉😂
But he's no bloody hero.
(Fellow show-only fan, so if any of my speculations happen to be correct, i promise I'm not trying to spoil, just making guesses!)
I definitely agree with Matt on the Sul'dam having a sort of "initiation" once they break and train their one Damane and then they get the face markings (which i thought was a tattoo, which would make it more of a permanent promotion, not just when they go to battle)
And i also think that maybe the Demane only have the mouth plug thing when they go to battle, so maybe they can speak when not in battle?
I totally get it, I am the sort of person who normally gives people a ton of slack/benefit of the doubt as well!
All hail Cait, Lord of the Spoilers, Remover of Ruin.

@17:50 Siuans attack-needles
It is similar or the same as what Moiraine tried to use against Ishamael in S1 Ep8 but the way it's around her head like that..
Yup! We recognized her
Hype for this and hype for the dusty wheel discussion.

well spotted! i noted this as well
Ooooooo good point!!! Damn.. 😭😭😭
That was especially cruel, as if everything isn't enough 💔
We've seen the blue sitter in season 1 episode 5 or 6. She gave Moiraine some orders to stay in the tower, which is why Moiraine wanted Siuan to expel her so she wouldn't have to follow those orders. She was investigating the "foreign ships off the western shore" (paraphrasing), and we can see where that investigation led her here.
We remembered her 😄
This episode messed me up more than when i read it in the books.
I love your reactions, and your theories are fun! can't wait till next episode!

about the dream with rand, ishamael, lanfear.... in any case rand knew that it was a plan/manipulation tactic to lure him to falme. he says as much to mat, that they need to save egwene but at the same time it is a trap. and mat says they will go in any case.
so rand knows they are both trying to manipulate each other lol. and so does lanfear and she says as much at the beginning of the episode, asking him what his tactic will be with her...
Egwene’s scream and the score behind it gives me CHILLS! I’ve rewatched the episode about 6 times now and it’s just not relenting 😂

Here, NO SPECIFIC SPOILERS but enough Old Tongue lore to clarify the relationship, and I will point to other scenes so you can draw conclusions from them:
Sul'dam means leash holder, damane means leashed, marath'damane (a term Suroth used in the prior episode) means 'one who must be leashed'.
You're right to take in every detail, cos there really is no throwaways this season. You both need to lowe eachother sometimes 🤣 loved the reaction as always. This was a heavy one for sure. Hope youre both feeling okay after watching!
We are! Haha I'll make this clear here, neither of us are upset with each other about this one bit haha. We always get into heated passionate debates about subjects and its pretty normal 😄
Oh I didnt mean to imply you were aha! The fact that you both have differing opinions over the same material is often what makes the most interesting discussions! @@Matthewvhaynes
Damane (duh-mah-neh)
Domani (doh-mah-nee)
Oh Robert Jordan messing with us all still with stuff like this throughout the series.
@@TyrionTrakand Well said, and thanks for the additional info.
Hype for your reaction to this episode.
Thank you!
The words Damane, Sul'dam, and A'dam (the collar) all have the same root, meaning leash. Damane are leashed, Sul'dam are leash holders.

One of you is right about sul'dam/damane ... sort of... I won't say which. Though, who knows what might have been changed in the show from what it was in the books.
Renna... not Ranna 😅
You guys have some interesting theories that only time will tell if they right or not.
I'd be amused to see D&D stats for all the characters... or a WoT RPG game. (I know an old rpg exists... the cousin of a college friend had it... wish I had a copy). They had new classes in that game... but if I had to give them classes... I shouldn't or it might be spoilers. (started and erased them)
I don't remember what Ishmael said when he did it to Moiraine.
The Egwene stuff is pretty much right from the books... I knew it was going to happen, but still brutal to watch... 😭
Liandrin... no clue what will happen with her...they gave her a backstory and motivations and I have a feeling her story overall might change quite a bit from what was in the books.
I'm glad Mat was in the episode... his story needs to pick up soon. 😅 Even book readers are wondering about Min's vision...

33:42 don’t answer the question
The books are so different in many ways that they are hard to compare. Some changes are totally fine or even better than the books, while other changes make no sense at all to me. The biggest problem I have is with the metaphysics of the One Power. In the books the metaphysics is very clear and almost scientific in character (apparently Robert Jordan had studied physics), while in the show the way it works seems far less coherent, so I have a lot of confusion there. I have to say though that this season is much less confusing than the first one.
Good theory about the bracelet. I look forward to seeing if your theory is correct.
Damane (Duh mah nay) are the slaves. Domani (Doh mah nee) are people from a place called Arad Doman
I feel like Liandrin really just wanted her son for herself to have something to focus on, and not so much for the love of her son. If she really loved her son, she would’ve let him die without pain instead of keeping him alive as an invalid.
Thats a fair point! But love can be double edged, some people find it hard to let go even if they truly love someone
@@Matthewvhaynesyep I totally agree, especially she emphasized on it as a "curse" at being an Aes Sedai, ageing too slowly that they loose everyone they care for. Letting go is hard with this in mind

IMO the Seanchan are the worst and most terrifying villains in the series. The idea behind them is something akin to colonialism and slavery, which makes them more evil from a certain perspective.
I'd say so. Every society who can look at an another human being as something less-than-human is
It's "Damane" or "Marath'Damane."
The collar and the wrist band are both ter'Angreal. Both together enable controlling Marath'Damane.
Marath'Damane is what they call channelers they haven't enslaved yet iirc.
@@Lightning_Lance Correct: The collars and wrist bands enable converting a Marth'Damane into a captive, controlled, enslaved Damane, and then keeping her in that status indefinitely.
Oh yeah!!!🎉🎉🎉
Good insight on Egwene…
They made it just as messed up as it is in the books, and I’d argue that the show portrays it better. That was hard to watch. The Seanchan are the worst >:(
I'm hoping Nynaeve can break that SICK collar or the captured blue Ajah left some sort of failsafe for someone more powerful that her!! Brutal....i needs it GONE from this world😮
I won't spoil anything about whether or not they have multiple Damane, but just remember, they are treated as pets.
This is perhaps a cruel question (and I might have asked it elsewhere as well) - in your mind, who is worse: Lanfear or Renna?
We will get the lovable deadly rascal Matt next season, most likely
let's just say Mat is a player
SO GOOD🎉🎉🎉🎉
I love the rambles
Thank you!
Those who can enjoy the show call the extreme haters (mostly the disingenuous ones) Bookcloaks. But I've also seen those people call those that like the show and defend it Rafefriends (like Darkfriend) because they think Rafe Judkins is the Dark One.
The Adame can read the back of your mind 😂.
a’dam
1:24:20
😭😭😭🤣🤣🤣🤣
And because you can’t google: sul'dam and damane are how they are spelled
Thank you Jason!
@@Matthewvhaynes also if you are curious Renna the Sul’dam and Ryma Aes Sedai of the yellow ajah.
I didn't hear any background noises.
When Shannon was editing, she had to cut some of them out unfortunately so that's probably why you didn't hear it
No. Book. Info. None y’all. :)
Sorry about assholes who can't realize that a TV show and book are different ruining things for y'all.
❤️❤️❤️
This is like 4 episodes in a row that have i think been the best episode in the series. Season two is a ROLLING now they need to bring it home in a big way with the final 2 but the set up is there. This episode did such a good job of conveying how terrible the seanchan are. The pitcher scenes were off page in the book and seeing play out is super painful. Difficult but excellent episode.
Wooooo first comment! Can’t wait to see this!
Damane and sul’dam
😊
So Matthew would be broken by the 3rd time. 😂
That's how they get you.
Great reaction!! Can't hear the background- great job getting rid of it haha
Thank you! All props to ky wife, She edited this 😊
Y’all if you have to start a comment with the phrases “not sure if spoiler” “here is book info” 👀👀 dont.
I despise the Seanchan. The show is doing a great job portraying then.
You not giving her time to share her opinion
