The white painted hulls you see on a number of these ships meant they were part of the "Great White Fleet", which sailed around the world from December. '07 to Feb. '09. Some of the video and stills are from that voyage.
The New York class battleship should really have been called the Texas Class battleship, seeing as how the Texas was completed before the USS New York. Such a beautiful ship packed with history
2:46 That is Grant's Tomb in the background, in Manhattan. They used to have fleet weeks quite often in NYC then. Today, there are tons of large buildings in that area. Strange to see it was not built up at all back in the early 1900's.
@@andro7862 They were removed from reserve in 2006. And in 2010 were removed from limited capacity readiness. They're in operable condition, but have long since been stricken from register.
@@andro7862 By law Iowa and Wisconsin are not to be tampered with in a way that would hamper their combat readiness/effectiveness and are reclaimable by the navy whenever their nation should need them. The private owners had to sign a form acknowledging this before the navy signed the rights to the ship over to them.
The uss maine from the 1880s was consider to be an armored cruiser or a lesser battleship, it was similar to hms hood which was a battlecruiser, built to fight battleships but based were more like cruisers. BB2 (Battleship #2) is technically USS Massachusetts.
Not to be that guy but the picture shown for a Wyoming class battleship is not a Wyoming class battleship and the Delaware and Florida class had 10 12” guns not 12 of them
Project Montana ( USS Montana) was canceled because of "the battle of midway" they realized that air superiority in navy is important and dive bombers and torpedo bombers are more effective that battleships and because of Lt.Com Richard "Dick" Best, he sunk multiple carriers in 1 battle. So they just prioritize aircraft carriers and cancel all the battleship projects
Couldn't do the part with the Kirland Brand cover of Hurt playing. Everyone knows that Trent Reznor won't even play that song anymore because after Johnny Cash covered it he and he alone owned it and he took it with him to the grave. Nobody else should ever cover that song
The monitor is in it's own class very aptly of monitors. The monitor class saw development from several nations up until the conclusion of ww1. They're rolls became coastal defence and shore/inland bombardment. The last ships with the Monitor class belonged to the British. They strapped a fixed 18in gun to both of them.
It's been reaserched that the battleships we're ineffective because the crew did not understand how to fire a barbett of 3 rifled cannons. 1st- One cannon is fired to get the range right on a target then the second cannon is adjusted to close with a hit and if not the third cannon is further adjusted to close in on a target. The second barbett followes the first barbetts sighting and fires as successful hits are made or the procedure is repeated. They were just novice operators for so many vessels. 🤣
27:58)Calling them the Montana Class is wrong.The(2nd)USS Illinois(BB 65)keel was laid.The(2nd) USS Kentucky(BB 66)was next.No USS Mont. was ever built or a keel laid.The 1st USS Ky(BB 6)was 2nd of 2 USS Kearsarge(BB 5)Class.The 1st USS Illinois(BB 7)(Class)was 1 of 1.
Next is either French Battleships . Ottoman Battleships , Battleships of Spain & Portugal or Austro-Hungarian Battleships.
jmantime please ottoman battleships or russian battleships
+jmantime
You show the _Deleware_ and _Florida_ classes as having 12- 12" guns. They have 10-.
Is there any footage of the New-Mexico Class ships before their upgrade in 1927?
11:33 The picture you show of the "Wyoming Class" is actually a picture of the Florida class that preceeded it.

The Iowa Class, BB-62, USS Battleship New Jersey. Such an awesome warship from front to rear.

Great video, I love the footage of the pre-dreadnought battleships;
Love the Nevada-Class
My Ol-man served on BB38, 43-45 R.Brown, Boilermaker & Loader Main battery, RIP 2019 @ 94.
I have to ask at the 12:54 mark there is a big clock on the main mast, why is it there?
It's a "Range clock": ruclips.net/video/ZwT0nMrcPGQ/видео.html
Montana BB-67 is my favorite ship
The Iowa class battleships are still in reserve, meaning they could join the active fleet if nedeed.
They're not.
@@peterson7082 Two of them are.

8:55 Here, the "Connecticut" is leading the Great White Fleet in 1907.
Cool, they look magestic, sailing in a line like that, dont they?
Uss kansas was in there
Great job jaymantime. Thank you.
16:49 Not the Mississippi class. Those are the first 16 inch gunned battleships in the US navy, the Colorado, Maryland or West Virginia.
Nice video

Slightly upset the Pennsylvania class didn't even receive a full minute while the others had several but hey whatcha gonna do right?
I feel like we should have like more photos
Nightwish? Now there's a song I haven't heard in about a decade.
