the california fans exceeded my expectations in terms of class. It was nice to see such an improvement in their manners from what I'm used to
man the setter at 1:13 if u looked closely jumped up to do a fake spike to make the middle blocker jump and then backsets it because he knew the outside hitter on the other side was still recovering from the ground which gave the opposite a completely open net. insanely smart plays from the setter props to him.
He barely jumped and the middle flew up like a pogo stick

7:55 A spiker must contact the ball on his/her own side of the net, but may in the course of the follow through reach over (but not touch) the net. A player is allowed to go underneath the net as long as there is no interference with the other team.

playing at that high of a level in volleyball there are rules where players cannot cross each other in specific ways or before the Service is in the air, my best guess is they violated the crossing rules
They were out of rotation. I assume they were in rotation 5 (OH number 16 served previously), so #16 had to be behind the other outside since he's backrow, but I'm pretty sure the down-ref was saying he was in front of the other OH

sincere question from someone that doesn't know much about volleyball - how is this allowed? looks like he catches it and throws it down vs. hits it
@dpsmitty it's a gray area in volleyball, notice how BYU's hits and especially tips were so much cleaner, UCLA just got lucky with a permissive ref team. That seems to be the trend these days, "just let the players play", I'm not a fan myself.
@@msittig i got so frustrated seeing them literally grab and dunk the ball for so many of their points. Genuinely think that Penn State would have won if the ref considered them lifts.
@@msittig the thing with the “just let the players” play, is that a lot of this can be applied to setting as well. I’ve seen a lot of games where a team gets penalized for double touching the ball when setting, since it’s because it has some spin on it. When it comes to the less experienced setter, it could be really annoying. So should we give an exception to certain things? Or should we double down? Idk, I could be saying shit outta my ass rn.

Had really bad back pain when I was playing, i recommend doing core exercises to strengthen the muscles around. It helped me out tremendously, however it did take a while, ~6 months of core routinely implemented into my workouts and I haven't had back pain since.

The UCLA setter really needs to set these guys tighter - maybe its part of their new system but the only place where its smooth is when he runs the bic with Ethan - it looks real smooth. The one time he sets Kevin at the right height and gets it tighter - Kevin OTs easily. Dude needs to set the ball higher and tighter but with the same tempo. Especially to Alex - poor dude is only tipping and rolling and hes got a good arm too - I feel bad for him because he can't really do anything. Maybe this was their strategy against PENN ST since they're so big but I still feel like the setter is shooting balls out to the pin way to low and off the net.... or is that just me? Anyone know why they're doing that?
