Fyi the man on keyboard is Kim Jaehwi, the composer who worked with IU on Through the night (2017), Snowman (2018), My Old Story (2014) and many more. He’s the one who composed and sang My Mister’s ost Dear Moon to which IU wrote lyrics. He’s very young, only 21 I think, and have worked with IU since high school days. They have a very good relationship!

아이유 노래는 유행이라기 보다는 삶에 녹아 있는듯함;;; 솔직히 명곡들이 많지만 너랑나, 하루끝, 가을아침 나온지 좀 됐지만 지금도 계속 듣는 노래이고.. 지금 나온노래들도 앞으로도 계속 찾을 노래일듯 합니다
정말 김광석 가수의 느낌 분위기와 매우 닮아있는 .. 유일한 가수 같아요 음절 가사 하나하나에 많은 이들의 삶이 섞여있는 것 같아요ㅠㅠㅠ

She really is a good storyteller. I love how when she writes her lyrics, the intention is to not only make you listen, but also to let you see how the story happened. The way she sings makes you feel the emotion she wants you to feel and I believe it's a great factor if you want to be great singer and artist. You're not making a song to be popular, you're making them to touch lives and that's exactly what she does.

저도 적지는 않은 나이라 젊은 친구들 사이에 껴있으면 머쓱할 때도 있습니다만,
타 가수에 비해 아이유콘서트는 가족단위로도 많이 오고, 아이들부터 어르신까지 연령대가 다양하답니다.
전에 콘서트 갔을 때는 연세 많으신 외국인 두분이 아이유 뱃지며, 여기저기 아이유 굿즈 달고 오신 걸 보고
참 부러웠습니다. 나도 좀 더 시간이 지난 후에도 그럴 수 있을까 생각이 들어서요.
영상으로 보는 것도 좋고, 음원으로 듣는 것도 좋지만, 현장에서 보고 듣는 것은 말로 다 할 수가 없답니다.

i loved this song bc in 2023 i lost my grandma. when i first listened this song and saw the lyrics, i burst into tears bc the chorus is abt me and my grandma, i always would lay on her knees and she would touch my hair. i immediately started crying, i listen to this song when i miss my grandma and always end up crying. thank you for this song and wonwoo who covered this song and i get to know it

Knees os dedicated to IUs grandmother who raised her and her brother when her family was in debt. Whenever she has insomnia she'd get some relief when her grandmom stroked her hair and she'd fall asleep in her lap.

Listening to this after hearing Wonwoo's cover. This is a beautiful song and one that I will listen to, to comfort me at times when I am sad and missing my mum. If only there was a staircase leading up to Heaven so we could see our loved ones even if it was just for a day. Thinking of everyone and sending love to those that need it most right now.

To be honest I wasn’t fully aware of IU and just how versatile and amazing she is until I watched Hotel del Luna . After watching this outstanding drama I had to look at Wikipedia just to find out more about her .
Not only was she listed as an actress but also a singer , it was then I logged into RUclips just to check out if she was any good .
WOW 😮 ! She is not only an amazing actress but she is a truly unbelievable singer , her voice control and tone is wonderful , I don’t understand the words of most of the songs she sings and I don’t need to , I could listen to her singing ballads all day “she’s that good” .
Already downloaded two of her albums and four singles from iTunes, only wish some of the songs she performs on RUclips were available in the UK especially , “Story of old couple” .
I’ve totally became a massive fan of IU , I might be her only one in Scotland 🏴 , I don’t know and don’t care . Looking forward to watching her in her next acting role and will always keep listening her wonderful singing voice . 💜

hahaha! She is a singer first and being an actress is just her stress reliever. Watch her dramas she is quite good. Watch everything from her debut 2008 to the recent her fancams is worth watching too. And watch her variety shows specially Heroes and Hyori B&B. I also thought that I'm the only fan she have in my country but it turns out she is famous here when she had her concert last year in my country it got sold out right away. I'm lucky to be able to get a ticket although not the seat i want but its fine I've waited for 10 years just to hear and see her live. I was awake for 2 days since i have to travel as its far from my area but it's all worth it. You will never regret being a Uaena.

IU wrote this song when she had troubles sleeping and then she remembered the time when she used to sleep on her grandma's lap....I had a hard time listening to this song without crying since I lost my grandma and that's exactly how I used to sleep when she was still alive, on her lap with her stroking my hair.
요즘 너무 힘들고 지칠때마다 집가는 버스에서 이 노래를 들으면서 잠듬.. 정말 거짓말 안하고 가사 하나하나가 머리 속에 그려지면서 알 수 없는 오묘한 감정들을 느낌.. 이게 힐링일까..
This is my biggest comfort song, I don't think any other song can comfort me like this song does. IU's songwriting level is top notch, no wonder she wins 'songwriter of the year' awards too ❤️
I'm disappointed with the people saying horrible things to her it hurt me as a person.If only you know her more the past IU until today you won't say those things. You don't have to like her we just ask a little respect. I follow her career since 2008 until now and I admire only few celebrities those worthy to be praise and IU is one of them. You don't even know her for you to judge. Where she is now is because of her talent plus good heart plus great attitude. She work without complain,sleep,and even if she is sick.Simple misunderstanding will not shake her career and the people who truly believe in her. she did a great job with her album it's hard to sing,produce and co-compose the songs. If theirs mistake in her part please be considerate since it's her first time trying new things to show her musicality if people got offended or hurt she did not mean it the way you interpret her works. Because they accuse her in misinterpreting the character in the book that she got inspiration in writing the song zeze. They are saying she is a pedophile duh! it's not even close. They are just making up things to ruin her since she is so successful and they want to get ride on it by saying horrible things. IU's success is due to her talent,hard work, and passion. People just don't have anything to do with their lives and they want to ruin her. they twisted her interpretation and use it to gossip about but like what I've said a true Uaena knows her and will not be shaken or leave her because of it. IU's fans all over the world are solid though we can't communicate with the same language but we have something in common enough to understand each other and that's IU.

They twisted her words to mean something other than what she meant. I just can't stand to watch in silence. It's sad how after reading the lyrics I realize this song that I've been listening to every day and night because it is simply beautiful and heartwarming along with IU's fairy like voice, is actually a perfect description to my real current Nights.. I've been chronically ill for a while now, so I end up awake at night while others are sleeping thinking about an old laughing me, waiting for a possible day I could win myself back. The lyrics "don't wake me up I'm going to sleep tight" is something I used to tell my family so often when I take sleeping pills to not wake me up since I'll end up fighting my daily pain and not sleeping; and like she said I wish there was a shortcut to where a healthy happy me is.

I'm completely in love with the way IU sings. The songs she sings depict such melancholy stories and through her singing you can really feel the emotion she wants to evoke.
This will be such a long comment, but i want to write this so much as it will remind me to come and search for this song again, so that i can read these words of mine here.
I first listened to this song in 2018. It's in the evening of such a tiring day for me. Omg, my eyes got teary outta sudden just to write this🥺. I was mentally and physically tired at that time. My eagerness to further my life and finish my matrics life (in Malaysia, we got a program like a foundation before entering any university and i chose matrics, a one year program). My first semester there were terrible. As the result came out, i cried like a loser. My tears rolled down almost everyday during my matrics life, right after the first result came out.
The eagerness to pursue my dream in dentistry faded, i mean more to like, destroyed. I felt so useless as a daughter and to myself. I cried because i know how i studied like a zombie. The countless sleepless night, the countless teary nights. Finishing my tutorial's exercise with teary eyes because it is too pack and too hard for me. Watching my roommates sleeping as a human supposed to, i cried while mumbling, "I want to sleep too..." Sacrificing my rest and leisure time and weekends for revising, all i got was nothing rather than a deep despair.
Yes, i cried because i felt blamed to myself and my family. I cried as I thought how useless I am. I had my own reason why I chose matrics rather than other programs at my time. I got offered to a lot of programs, and even in a prestigious university in my country, but i refused. Idk why, but as time passed, i realized that God is trying to teach me such a valueable lesson. HE taught me the feeling of drowning and hurting at the deepest ocean of failing, that I never experienced before. I'm always consoling my friend that "it is okay , it's okay. Let's get up and try again. You can do it.." without me personally knowing what and how the feeling of failing exaclty is.
But now, i knew. And I appreciate the experience.
By the time I was at the lowest point in my life, all I felt was, I want to quit, so badly. I wanna go home. I wanna end all of these shits. My inner self was screaming. I smiled to my friends but it was honestly fake. Deep inside, i was hurt by the disappointments of myself for not doing my best. I'm bad. Yes, I'm so bad.
And, that time came. My most beautiful moment in matrics life. The miracle, this song. I rarely browse my youtube during my matrics life but it happen in one fine evening when I felt everything were too suffocating for me to further ahead. This song called Knees - IU came to my recommendation. I don't expect much, I clicked on this song and....
Again, I cried. I don't even looked at the lyrics and the meaning of it. I just mesmerized by her soft, angelic, airy voice. I cried because this song is too beautiful and it was my very first IU unnie's song before I become a UAENA. I downloaded this masterpiece and listened to it whenever i want to cry so bad.
Everyone is true. She is not just a singer. She's a storyteller. I can't find any celebrity that can sing perfectly like her. Her voice is such a gift from God. It heals my scarring heart, giving the colors to my faded ambition. Gomawo💙
I'll never forget this song. It is personally my healing therapy. Thanks God I got a better path after finishing my gloomy matrics life 3 years ago. I am now in my sophomore year at a university, studying my long lost ambition that i don't even realize i had once told people i want to. I was blinded by society's expectation for me to be in a medical field, as a doctor. I knew I can't be a doctor, bcs I know myself damn much than anyone.
But now, I'm glad for where I am now. I'm glad for the future that I'll live years ahead. I'm grateful. Thank you God for teaching me how is that to be at my weakest and lowest point in life. Thank you God for giving me strength thru many ways, and one of the is IU - Knees.
