Burradon Tower is a ruined three storey tower house now mostly surrounded by trees.
It was originally a three storey tower house with a single chamber on each floor reached by a newel stair in the south east corner. (you can see the stairs in the video)
The tower is believed to have been built around 1553 by Bertram Anderson and continued in occupation into the 17th century. By the 19th century the tower had become part of an adjoining farm and the lower two chambers had been made habitable by the construction of an internal tiled roof and by the early 20th century the tower stood alone in the present farm complex. The tower was conserved in 1977.
In the grounds of the tower is a circular depression identified as the site of a well, thankfully filled with concrete now - rumour has it that a secret tunnel runs from here to Seaton Delaval Hall which is quite a distance away!
I would love to find out if that rumour is actually fact!
Now where did i put my torch haha...
Thanks again to Lisa from Burradon farm for allowing me permission to film.

Greetings from Canada Ray. 🍁 You’re spoiling us with all these videos. What an impressive building inside and out. Loved when you zoomed out to include the stone wall. It makes for a beautiful picture, nestled in the trees. True or not, I enjoy the rumour of a secret tunnel to Seaton Delaval Hall. Adds a bit of mystery, adventure, and romance to the place. Very kind of Lisa from Burradon House and Cottages for allowing you access. Burradon Tower is a great glimpse into the past, however brief. I checked out the link to Burradon farm. Absolutely stunning place. Ty as always Ray! Enjoy your weekend. - 🇨🇦🇬🇧 - bye for now 👋 🤗❤️

Hiya Jill 😃👋🤗 I’ll have to do a longer one at some point if it ever stops raining ☔️ We have more rain on the way it appears. I’ll be growing webbed feet soon 🤣
Going back to the 1500’s the stone in this building is still holding up pretty well apart from losing 2 floors and a roof. It’s probably not safe enough for regular visitors though. It is quite a distance from Seaton Delaval Hall so if there is a tunnel it would have taken many years to excavate and complete, but who knows, next time I’m there I’ll pose the question, I’d like to find the source, I’ll take a torch 🔦 just in case 😂😁
The cottages have been renovated to a high standard, I never checked prices though, but they are definitely in a nice spot.
Hopefully it won’t be too long before I get out on another adventure lol, until then stay safe and take care and thank you as always for your support 😘🤗🙏🏻❤️🇨🇦🇬🇧
