Written in 1962, this composition forms part of “La Serie del Ángel” comprising four pieces in total: Introducción al ángel, Milonga del ángel, Muerte del ángel, and Resurrección del ángel. The piece begins with a characteristic three-voice fugue, a musical form Piazzolla excelled at and which he utilized for other compositions such as “Fuga y misterio.” It has been performed as a solo piece, and arranged for both chamber groups and orchestras. It was originally written for Piazzolla’s quintet, however, and it was one of the pieces that they performed the most.
