How about giving an option to the player within 10 mins after the player gets picked to decide if the player wants to opt in or opt out of that particular session. For example if Hasaranga goes for 2C again in the coming auction. He should be given an option whether he would be willing to accept that offer or not in the next 10 mins. If he opts out, then he can come to auction the next year but current year he can't play. By this, the teams will look for some other player and the money is not locked. I think it's fair for the player and also the teams.
Ash Anna, how about the idea of having 2 separate days of auction? One day for indian players and one day for foreign players. And teams also have 2 pools of money. One pool of money for indian players with proportional higher value. One pool for foreign players with proportional lower value. What I mean is that, let's say we need to pick 10 players out of which 6 are Indians and 4 foreigners. And let us say budget is 100%. Now for the 6 indian players, you allocate auction budget of 75% and 25% for foreigners. Within each pool, there is no limit for per player. You can splurge 20% budget on a single foreign player as well.

As an Indian cricket fan, there is nothing I would love to see more than Indian talents flourish in the IPL. However, it is true that BCCI does not allow its male cricketers to participate in foreign T20 leagues. Foreign players, meanwhile, do not have this restriction. They can pick and choose how to shape their careers and where to ply their trade. As professionals, they want to get the best deal possible for their abilities. Indians do this in every other profession, we go to other countries to do jobs because it pays better than here. Therefore, even though it is controversial to say it, I think there is nothing wrong for a foreign player to skip main auctions and participate in mini auctions if that is where they think their maximum value is. On the flip side, franchises are perfectly allowed to say if you don't appear in the main auction and only appear in the mini auction we are free to not bid on you. Artificial price control and imposing unfair restrictions hurt the franchises, players and the final product. In addition to the auction dynamics, there is a natural market dynamics which happens in the IPL auctions. It already works fairly well on the laws of supply and demand. Franchises bid on players and based on the demand, the player gets paid a lot or not. Tinkering with it way too much will end up either players generally being dissatisfied with pay or franchises dissatisfied with player performance. Eventually over time, IPL's quality will take a hit.
There shouldn't be any minimum price for the player, let the player put x amount and if franchise feel they want them, they would purchase at that price anything above would benefit the player. Same goes with the IT Worker, if he wasn't enough with his pay, he will choice other job, thats fair too

When a player is putting themselves in the auction for a base price, you are saying that you are happy to play for the base price. What a player might get from the auction is subjective to a lot of uncontrollable factors. How is that unfair for a player when they get picked for their base price? I might be sounding naive here but isn’t that the logic of appearing in an auction?

As an Indian cricket fan, there is nothing I would love to see more than Indian talents flourish in the IPL. However, it is true that BCCI does not allow its male cricketers to participate in foreign T20 leagues. Foreign players, meanwhile, do not have this restriction. They can pick and choose how to shape their careers and where to ply their trade. As professionals, they want to get the best deal possible for their abilities. Indians do this in every other profession, we go to other countries to do jobs because it pays better than here.
Therefore, even though it is controversial to say it, I think there is nothing wrong for a foreign player to skip main auctions and participate in mini auctions if that is where they think their maximum value is. On the flip side, franchises are perfectly allowed to say if you don't appear in the main auction and only appear in the mini auction we are free to not bid on you. Artificial price control and imposing unfair restrictions hurt the franchises, players and the final product.
In addition to the auction dynamics, there is a natural market dynamics which happens in the IPL auctions. It already works fairly well on the laws of supply and demand. Franchises bid on players and based on the demand, the player gets paid a lot or not. Tinkering with it way too much will end up either players generally being dissatisfied with pay or franchises dissatisfied with player performance. Eventually over time, IPL's quality will take a hit.

There shouldn't be any minimum price for the player, let the player put x amount and if franchise feel they want them, they would purchase at that price anything above would benefit the player. Same goes with the IT Worker, if he wasn't enough with his pay, he will choice other job, thats fair too
